#20V1T4

Some months ago I half jokingly thought that my Vita would probably get more attention than my to be brand new PS4 this year and the more I think about it the more apparent it seems. Vita is totally rocking it this year. Just now we got 3 new localization announcements from the Japan studio in a single day with Soul Sacrifice Delta arriving as soon as next month! Seems the rest of the year is not slowing too much for the console with other games coming like Project Diva F 2nd (sue me) Danganronpa 2, Sly Trilogy next week (and unlike the Jak collection this one seems to be really solid, if it is crossbuy I promise to finally dive into em right away since I bought em cheap from PSN sale but never got around to em when the rumours about Vita release started). But really what took me by surprise is probably the start of the year. I have gotten tons of hours out of stuff like Danganronpa, FFX HD, currently playing FFX-2 HD and Ys waiting to be played (tho I guess it's 2014 only here in EU :3). Not only that, there seem to be a ton of rumours about possible localizations like Senran Kagura, Tales of Hearts (tho apparently inferior version ;-;) and whatnot. And that is not even diving into the games I'm afraid to even touch when it comes to their quality like Mind-0 and Neptunia games.

As for my poor PS4 while InFamous SS is totally awesome but really the 2014 does feel a bit dry. Many point to the indie games as the appetisers before the ''real games'' hit the console. But why would you want to play those on a dirty home console when you have dat OLED? Stuff like Velocity 2X deserves to be played on the go! Sure I'm excited for stuff like The Order or TLOU Remastered but Vita will be the machine that keeps me going till then (with the occasional DotA 2/Civilization 5 here and there!)

Even as a huuuuuuge supporter of Vita I had real doubts about the games for the system in 2014 when it comes to the west. I was certain 2013 was dead certain to be it's best year yet I think it's almost safe to say 2014 has already surpassed it. If this is the platform being dead I don't want it to live. Vita is definately my platform of choice this year <3. And as a diehard Vita nut it even surprises me since this was supposed to be the year when PS4 was the hottest shit and Vita would finally wither away. Celebrate good times!

Then again PS4 might curb stomp Vita when it comes to Q4 but hey, everyone knows this is the year when finally SCEA throws Vita some bones at E3. Right? Right.

I'm legit surprised that the Vita has the best lineup of 2014 for me.

I've always loved my Vita since day one, but, I'm psyched as hell for the rest of this year.

I thought Danganronpa 1 and 2 would be enough to keep my Vita around and get some usage out of it, but in the long term it didn't seem like a good investment. I sold my Vita around a week ago. Endless ports of games I already own and games I originally wanted for Vita are now on PS3.

Glad you're enjoying it, though. Brilliant little handheld that's ahead of it's time.

Like the Dreamcast.

If it makes you feel any better, the Vita is doing much much better in JP in 2014 and software sales are good as well. Its probably why we are hearing so many Vita games announced at least compared to the past.

I'm actually really tempted to buy one now but will hold off till its cheaper of if theres PS4+PSV bundle:

Danganronpa
P4G
Ys
Over my Dead Body 2
Freedom Wars (heard it has pvp)
and my most anticipated title: Phantasy Star Nova

You could blame me for loving the ports Vita gets. For example FFX+X-2 are totally awesome and there is no way I'd have gotten em on PS3 unless the Vita versions were absolutely wretched.

I got my PS4 and Vita on the same day, easily have played Vita more.

I'd play my Vita more, but that firmware update bricked it and Sony still hasn't sent it back yet.

3DS is clearly the more successful system and Vita is being labeled as a dead platform left and right but I can't help but feel tempted by its library of games.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. It's still missing a big non-port title intended to pull everyone over. Now it just has a bunch of good games coming out for it, but nothing that screams system seller. The 3DS did better in that regard in 2013 with Fire Emblem and A Link Between Worlds.

Vita has a great year ahead

What I will personally be buying:

FFX/X-2 HD (already bought but w/e, I wanted to list it)
Borderlands 2
Ratchet & Clank Trilogy (of course it's coming)
Freedom Wars
Minecraft
The Walking Dead: Season Two

Mules like SmokeyDave, myself, and others have long preached the goodness of the Vita. Come into the welcoming glow of higher tiered handheld gaming.

I feel like Vita is pretty much the place to be right now if you like japanese games.
Home consoles don't get much love from developers over there in japan.
3DS doesn't get many localizations and has region lock.
Vita gets a lot of love from japanese developers, doesn't have region lock and a lot of stuff gets localized, too.

I wish I could agree. Beyond Danganronpa 1 & 2 and maybe Ys (haven't really felt like buying it but maybe I'll do that soon) it has little going at it for me. I have little interest in subpar ports and games I already played elsewhere. I guess that's my fault for treating my handhelds as exclusive machines? Stupid me. Well the hardware is still as good as it was last year.

I actually thought Vita might edge out 3DS like it did in 2012 (what a spectacular year for Vita games it was) but looks like this will be going more like 2013 at this point.

I spend more time on my Vita than I do with my PS4, PS3, PC, 3DS (combined)

And that's only playing Terraria @_@

it has a solid lineup, but sadly not many of them are stuff im interested in getting day 1.

danganronpa 2, akiba strip, maybe neptunia (senran kagura if its a thing) is about it for the rest of the year so far.

not really complaining though, FFXHD has been keeping me busy on my commute.

From January of this year, all my console gaming expenses were for the Vita. Looks like like I won't survive the year without a quite large backlog due to the sales and new games combo.

The momentum is changing on the Vita, it won't likely sell near PSP levels but if it gets some traction in the West it will do well.

Its library is pretty good, If people had Vitas on their hands I could see how it would be the preferable place to own many titles, it provides portability without huge loss in quality and controls. Sony has to find a way to communicate how much value PS+ and Vita have combined, everyone who got PS+ for PS4 should be tempted to get a Vita.

I think Sony should invest on at least on big title for Vita to brush always any thought of it been a dead platform .

It even has me enjoying arcade shooter games again thanks to Luftrausers and TxK, that's not something I thought would ever happen again.

Once Gravity Rush 2 gets detailed and confirmed for localization, all shall bow before the might of the Vita.

I don't normally get as hyped for Vita releases as for PS4 (or PS3 previously) releases because I'm always stuck in my Vita backlog, but it's good that games Vita owners want are coming.

I haven't been keeping up with the schedule of new releases. I'm still playing Danganronpa, and got FFX/X2 on sale last week.

Haven't touched Tearaway yet, played a few minutes of Guacamelee and maybe a couple hours of Terraria...

Can't say I agree, mainly because the thing that draws me to a system is it's original/unique content and Vita is pretty dead in that respect.

Preach. And even Dangaronpa isn't that much of a draw if you know Japanese and have a PSP. Fortunately (?) I don't, so I'm hyped for Danganronpa 2. And that's about the only Vita exclusive game I'm hyped for I think (though not actually Vita exclusive).

Couldn't even wait for Danganronpa 2 before selling it?

All three of these games today are unique exclusives.

I made a thread a while back about how the Vita had the strongest start to the year out of all the platforms, but I thought it would fizzle out a bit after those first couple of months. Not at all, it's still chugging along and releasing games at a healthy rate.

What's a system seller?
PersonaQ will get me to buy a 3ds but that's not a system seller for anybody else.
Monster Hunter was the system seller for psp, but that was a fucking port also.
