IGN Rumor: Nintendo Revealing New Hardware at E3 [Up: MCV + Videogamer]

If this rumor is true I really hope Nintendo goes for a powerful console.

Powerful console + Nintendo games = A reason to buy a console at least from a PC gamers perspective.

No reason at the moment for me to buy one of the weak next gen consoles, Nintendo can change that.

Super Mario 3D World is worth the price of admission.

Why would Nintendo use Android? What benefit would it afford them?
It wouldn't make development for them any easier and it would allow for far too many security risks. On top of it not being designed specifically for them.
You are talking to the wrong person. Never specified an OS in my post.

I just said going with a dedicated handheld SKU only in the future is a dead end. People standard and necessities are vastly different now, so a more converging handheld platform needs to supplement NIntendo's traditional busyness.

It's just market reality.

People SERIOUSLY can't be expecting that there is any real possibility of Nintendo announcing a successor to the Wii U. Right? RIGHT? Come on. Perhaps a Wii U revision that is predominately external in nature. Perhaps a 3DS revision. But an actual successor? No.

Something related to Wii U but not a successor.

So is this the reason why smash bros Wii U version is releasing after 3DS version?

It is most likely in their best interest to use a mobile OS that is already on the market (whether it be iOS or Android), mainly because not many people will want to get their smartphone unless their app store is just as expansive as Android's or iOS. Would you really want to get a smartphone that didn't start out with access to apps like Facebook, Twitter or Gmail? Or get a phone that would likely not get the next Instagram or Snapchat for ~.5 a year or longer?

At the very least, Nintendo would have to work a deal with Google to use the Android market. Not sure what the logistics of that are, though.

Plus, it makes sense for Nintendo to explore entering the smartphone arena. That's who they are competing with, like it or not

My joke was obviously fanciful, but I was sincere in my speculation that Nintendo may consider exploring a smartphone+handheld. My specs were the fanciful part of the joke.

I wouldn't be even a tiny bit surprised to see a QoL platform or a 3DS revision, even if the rumor is from a fake source.

The only super cool Wii U revision left is one fused with the Gamepad that only uses DD games. The drive takes a really big part of the device.

So i wonder if in the future Nintendo could drive the costs down enough to make it a reality, but with how the device has performed it makes zero sense so far.

I just want a 3DS phone running Android please & thanks. I really don't know why that is so hard.

Because if you're not making a phone or something a lot like a phone, chances are you would have to fork Android, which Google makes really difficult. Amazon's managed to do an okay job at this, but they've been laying the groundwork for several years.

For one thing, you would have to create your own store, and most modern Android apps won't run because they have a dependency on Google Play Services, which is closed source and only available to official Android devices.

We're talking about Nintendo here...

So, I have been thinking about all that non-wearable and quality of life stuff and the only thing that came into my mind was faith.

Well, it’s the only thing I could think of which doesn’t need be worn and can enhance some people’s life.

What I think Nintendo is going to do? Build a church, yeah you heard right, the church of Nintendo.

So it goes this way, everyone with a Nintendo-Network-ID is automatically baptized and thus a member of the N-church,
which obliges you to visit a special new area in the Miiverse, the so called Uhope.

You have to visit this place at least once in the week, or otherwise
all your digital content shall be wiped from your console, irretrievable.

Well, now since the church has your attention you are obliged to missionize
as many people as possible.

For your effort thou shall be rewarded with discounted games in the e-shop.

But the ultimate purpose of the church is of course the gaming in the afterlife.

As reward for a lifelong membership, the church promises you all your long wished Nintendo games,
such as a new Wave Race, a new F-Zero, a 2D Metroid and nothing less but a Zelda game without any handholding and actual exploration.

You only need to have strong faith and well…be dead to experience all this wonder and bliss.

A portable system and home console that tie into eachother and work seamlessly, more so than the PS4 and Vita. Something around XB1 specs, maybe a little less.

to me it's just the QoL platform...no much power but HD enabed, targeted at moms and old people and with a only digital delivery service were you can buy games specifically targeted to that demographic (wii fit,wii music ,etc.) and other apps.

I sure hope not, I don't think I can handle another round of serious articles upset Nintendo didn't buyout Ouya.

I doubt that it's a WiiU successor. Probably a 3DS revision, I think? But I'm ready for anything, Nintendo.

This year's E3 is going to be something alright.

The only way this scenario would be fine is if said console has FULL 100% BC with WiiU, including the gamepad, and some sort of an Ambassador Program for WiiU owners.

Just like Kid Icarus: Uprising had a dedicated peripheral for the 3DS, I could see Super Smash Bros. for Wii U coming bundled with some sort of dedicated hardware in order to facilitate a Wii U-exclusive feature. Makes about as much sense as releasing a new console at this point, I think.

What would that even be?

Nobody hears things about Nintendo. They keep secrets. I don't trust any leaks at all, especially with no press conference.

I have absolutely no idea. Just like I have no idea why people honestly believe there will be a new console released this year. This is a rumor IGN didn't even feel completely comfortable running on its website formally, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

It's the Wii U sacrifice bundle.

Buy a Wii U and you get Reggie and Satoura to come to your house for 2 hours of local mulitplayer.

No. The first thing they need is a bounce house.

I realize you're making a joke but I find it somewhat shocking that you actually believe the current management of Nintendo is sufficient and capable of producing a successful piece of hardware.

For the company that Nintendo is, I believe that Iwata is the perfect person to run it, provided they get their marketing together.

Current management made the DS and Wii, so there's precedence to go on.
