IGN Rumor: Nintendo Revealing New Hardware at E3 [Up: MCV + Videogamer]

It has probably been said already, but the proposed Fusion console from the VideoGamer article makes no sense whatsoever. The home console market and the handheld console market overlap only partially, and it would make no financial sense to burden a potentially successful handheld with a home-based unit, and vice versa. The Wii U GamePad lesson was learned the hard way, Nintendo would have to be bloody idiots to attempt something similar again.

You rushed. I asked what games will be there for a new console announced now at E3 and launching in the next year. I have a Wii U since launch and I love it.

Sorry then. I was responding to that actual quote, not the other statements you made elsewhere in the thread.

Just seems that the Wii U gets way too much hate on here. It's a money-drainer for the Big N, but still a fun piece of hardware.

This will either be:

-something to do with the QOL stuff they're getting into

-another 3DS revision

-a Wii U SKU without the gamepad (less likely)

There's no way they're ditching the Wii U and launching a whole new console this early. That would be the beginning of the end for their home console business.

You're mistaken. Their current tablet controller already has NFC.

The device uses the figurines as controllers of some sort. I doubt Nintendo would be happy to release something that's just Skylanders with Pokemon figures. I could see that device being their own spin on it.

This doesn't work at all. The Wii U has, by far, the best games library this gen.

I already answered and now I edited the initial comment, as it creates confusion.

I was talking about what games will be available on a new console announced at E3 and launched in the next year, as they need at list 2 years to develop good games and for sure they wouldn't have decided on a hypothetical new hardware until after holidays 2013. Not to mention the time needed for a new hardware design.

I still doubt any of it's true. I don't trust that these sources are accurate or real, and I don't trust these publications to vet their sources well either.

gus, really,no way it's going to be a completely new console, both the 3ds and the wii U are extremely young to be replaced.
it's the QoL platform,a third pillar that will focus on the market of the wii at a more accessible price

But if Iwata conceived of QOL at the start of this year (which I think he's said), they'd hardly have anything ready to show yet. Likewise, even if they decided to cut-and-run on Wii U, they're not likely to have a replacement fit to unveil. A peripheral or, more interestingly, a 3DS successor are possibilities.

Though, E3 rumours, giant pinches of salt, and all that.

My prediction about new Nintendo hardware:

Nintendo will present it's new handheld + home console combo, that will both share the same hardware structure, only that the console version will be more powerful (PS4 level of power) and the handheld similar to Wii U level of power.

Wii U games will be compatible with the new systems.

They will both release Fall 2015.

New console Zelda game will be released for Wii U and as a launch title for the new consoles.

Why is MCV/Videogamer's story included in the title? Am I missing something, or they were just reporting the rumor back?

I don't see that happening this soon but I'm ok with this.

Makes no sense whatsoever? Oh, come on:

2 130 mm DVGA (960 x 640) Capacitive Touchscreen

SDHC “Holographic Enhanced” Card Slot up to 128 Gigabyte Limit

Two versions: Disk Slot Version with 60 Gigs of Internal Flash Storage and Diskless Version with 300 Gigs of Internal Flash Storage

CPU: ARMv8-A Cortex-A53 GPU: Custom Adreno 420-based AMD GPU

How do such fake specs make no sense whatsoever?

Nope you are not and yes they are.

When do you think they started to develop a new hardware so it would be ready to show at E3?

How can be the home console both Wii U compatible and PS4 level of power and reasonably priced in 2015?

I don't get it, from the OP I understand that the IGN guys have kinda admitted that this rumor is based on almost nothing and they don't believe it's true.

Why is this story will spreading like wildfire and why are people still making guesses what the hardware reveal will be?

Is it because videogamer claimed they can backup the rumor with one of their own inside sources?

Could pull the "third pillar" move and then quietly kill the Wii U if the new hardware is successful.

Can't see it happening though.

I'm not talking about the specs, I'm talking about the concept.

A powered up Wii U that's finally relieved of the tablet and the name "Wii U".

N8 = Nintendo Eighth generation.

You want them to name their console "Nate"?

Whenever Iwata mentioned that their next consoles will share the same structure so that they can develop the same game for both systems.

How much do you thing PS4 will cost in Fall 2015? Anywhere from 300-400$ is OK in my book for the new hardware.

The new console might have a similar structure to Wii U so it can be compatible with it's games. I just can't see all those amazing Wii U games go to waste if they indeed announce a new hardware this E3...

Even if you're someone who isn't a fan of Nintendo IPs like Mario, Pikmin, Donkey Kong? No. It doesn't have the best by far. It may have the best for you though.

Nintendo fans thinks that everyone loves Nintendo IP's. They're so so wrong.

I like Mario Kart and Smash Brother, and that's pretty much it.

I also don't see how a new console from Nintendo is even going to do anything for them. I doubt they'll ever get third party support back. So outside of paying companies to do exclusives for them, I doubt many of the publishers even going to bother with releasing games on their next system.

I guess so, perhaps if all the announced games for the new machine were "also coming to WiiU" it wouldn't appear so bad.

It would be a slap in the face to Wii U owners if they showed off a new console.

Why? Will it be a slap in the face to iPhone 5s owners when Apple reveals the iPhone 6? Will it be a slap in the face for the owners of the newest iPad when Apple shows off the next iteration? I'm am Wii U owner and wouldn't see it as a slap in the face. I'd see it as Nintendo waking up and realizing the Wii U is a failure and its time to move on. Is it going to happen? No. But a slap in the face? No.

Wasn't the Fusion home console supposed to have like 4.6 Tflops? How about if they ditched the WiiU altogether and moved Zelda to this console as a launch title?

I can dream

Very unlikely. Announcing a console 1.5 years away from its release just dries up sales for whatever it's replacing (in this case the WiiU - which is the last thing they want). There's a reason why Sony and MS announced their consoles the same year they were released.

It is supposed to have specs which are not even available.

Well that certainly has stopped my buying a Wii U for the time being, was planning on getting one late summer.

The rumor is completely fakr. Buy whenever you want.

The difference is my iPhone 5s will still have new apps and games, etc. and be supported for years after the next versions come out...if WiiU is killed off early, Nintendo (and everyone else who barely make content atm anyway) stops supporting and making content for it way, way sooner and current owners will feel burned and yes, a slap in the face sort of speak.
