Sigh... once again ubisoft can't win.

Farcry 4 is announced as cross-gen: Most of the comments

Oh, not cross gen again. The game is going to be gimped.

Assassins creed decides to make one game unshackled from last gen, and one for those who haven't upgraded

Oh, ubisoft AC is everything wrong about videogames

They aren't going to abandon people who haven't upgraded to the new consoles.

Hell PS2 was supported 3-4 more years after PS3/360 launched.

This hate mongering on ubi is getting fucking old.

I really wonder how this will matter in the present day story line. I know they kinda have been making it less important, but with 2 games do they both follow the same present and have the past be different. Or possibly prioritize one and make the other kinda like Liberations with no real present day characters/events.

Hopefully the PS4 one will continue it, since I'm not too interested in 2 AC games in a month. But if Comet is important enough I can see grabbing it cheap for PC or wait for possible remaster like Liberations.

EXACTLY.
How can people be angry at this. This is great news for people who bought next gen consoles so they won't be held back by PS3 an the 360. Also Ubisoft have to support the old consoles because the current install base is just way larger.

Every E3, every year a large number of people are offended at the announcement of a new (or two) AC game being released right after a previous entry has just been released a few months prior and sold a hundred billion copies.

Every year.

I just find the idea of two full length Assassin's Creed game released on the same day on the same platform to be rather humorous.

How do you feel about a pub giving people with new systems something developed specifically for the more powerful machine while not leaving behind the 160 million PS360's still out there?

I don't see how, with a top selling franchise, that's a problem.

I legitimately don't understand how this series got so huge. Not that it's bad (despite my many complaints about the games, there's still some enjoyment to be had). It's just... it doesn't seem like the kind of game that would become super popular. Call of Duty and Halo? Yeah, I can totally understand those. People like shooting things. But AC is about climbing around historical cities. I would never have guessed that would have such a broad appeal.

God's had his chance.
Templar eh? ... well that's interesting. I'll never play it cause psshhh last gen but... i'll youtube the shit out of it if they do something interesting with the story.

PS2 sold a hundred million units at or around the time of the next generation by then, IIRC. It deserved to have some legs. It's why we have Persona 3, Persona 4, Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3 etc...

EDIT: For the record.

This irritates the living shit out of me.

This is the game I want to play on PS4. Fuck the French Revolution, I want more sailing, dammit!

Now this game is stuck on last gen bullshit tired ass consoles! At least make a PC version like the Borderlands game is doing, FFS.

They're trying to make fans of the franchise spend $120 (not including collector's edition tax, not including season passes) this year. How in the world would you twist that into a positive move?
If the setting of the PS3/360 game ends up looking more appealing to people who already made the jump to the new generation, they're either going to end up disappointed having to go back to the old gen, or they're completely screwed because they already sold that console.
This isn't some unreasonable Ubisoft Hate Parade. The company made a very strange choice with this year's games and it only benefits a specific portion of their fanbase - casual enough to not want both games, and hopefully playing games on the platform their 2014's Ass Creed of choice was made for.
Maybe it looks like that because you're reading complaints from at least two groups of Ass Creed fans who may end up pretty darn bummed out around E3 time.

I still never played Assassin's Creed 4. That might be the last one I play if I ever bother to buy it. At this pace, I guess I'm done with the franchise. Didn't like the annual releases and multiple a year is definitely not going to fly for me personally.

I played ACBF and it was fun. Not the main story with all the eavesdrop and escort missions, mind you, but the sailing and exploring. It's def worth a rent to see if you like it.

Im all for it. I like the series. The games are large. There is a base quality level i can expect from them. As long as it suddenly doesnt go to shit i have no problem with this.

But i am definitely interested to see what the quality of two mainstream AC games releasing in the same year is gonna be like.

As much as a tosser Desmond was... the series feels very bleh without him. The worst parts of 4 were going to the present and being reminded you're now just some faceless schmoe bug testing a computer game.

The thing that drives me nuts is that people don't realize how much choice they have. This isn't two groups of assassins creed fans. This is basically the neogaf community in general. When a game is announced as cross gen, the thread is typically filled with disappointment of it being cross gen, as they all state "oh the older consoles are holding games back" "they need to die". Go look at the farcry 4 thread. Its filled with comments like that.

So to counteract that, ubisoft decided rather than making the next game cross gen, and limiting their devs, they decided to instead let them make 2 games where one can be free from those limitations, and one to serve those who haven't upgraded. You have the choice to buy them both, buy one, etc. There is no gun pointed at your head forcing you to buy them.

I enjoy the assassins creed games, I buy them day 1. I will only be buying unity.

You have the choice to buy both, one, or none. I'm just tired of people coming into these threads, saying the games are shit solely due to the fact they are yearly releases, then leaving. Most of the spite comes from AC3 since it wasn't as good. and was overhyped. AC4 was quite good, and a lot of people who played it agree on that. But people just come in, shit on something and leave without giving it a fair shake, and that's what bugs me.

Someone make it stop! Could it be VI already? There is a movie in the works, so this franchise isn't going away anytime soon unfortunately.

Okay, I'll give it a shot. I heard there were a lot of the eavesdrop and escort and while I hate those, I think I can still enjoy the game. I'll check it out. Most likely sometime this summer. If I like it enough I'll probably buy Unity but Comet will probably take the back burner of things to buy.

Yep, many here on GAF have become insufferable as fuck in regards to ANYTHING Ubisoft does, good or bad.

Doesn't bother me. In fact, the more the better. I've enjoyed all the games. Only AC3 was disappointing, and that one still wasn't terrible. I'll be getting both.

Anyone else see this torrent of Assassins Creed releases feeling a lot like what they did with Guitar Hero prior to pulling the plug?

We are not quite at 6 a year yet, but give em enough time and it could get there.

Even though I liked Black Flag I have no desire for another one for atleast a couple more years. Atleast we know in 2 more years one will be coming out soon! No suspense there.

I know exactly what choice I don't have. I can't buy Comet(the AC game I want) because it's not available on anything but old trash consoles I don't own anymore.

If they're doing last gen versions, they should be cross gen. Period. Or at the very least PC so I can run it at a proper framerate and resolution.

Assassin's Creed isn't shit because of its yearly releases, it is shit because its broken mechanics (since the very first game), awful missions and sleep-inducing worlds with their worthless collectibles. AC is at the forefront of the "Press A for awesome!!" gaming. That's why it is shit.
