The story is hilarious for 95% of the time and then mind-fuckingly awesome at the very end.
What was awesome about it? It's really nothing special at all.
I LOVED getting around even before the BBI changes... there is nothing in the gaming landscape that holds a candle to the feeling you get when you realize you are WAY too far away from Gran Soren and the sun is going down much faster than you planned for. Nothing.
It would be... if only nights were scarier. Truth is, they're really not. (See more on this below.)
Loot is varied and never a shitty grind since the action keeps changing and expanding until you are working your way through the final 20 or so levels towards 200. It is consistently intense and engaging and FUN and continues to throw insane twists at you well beyond any other game.
I agree for the most part. That doesn't stop the Everfall/BBI rare loot system to be completely stupid, though. It shouldn't be there, period.
Menus and the screen clutter and everything else has been handily taken care of in BBI (in fact you could disable all HUD elements before BBI even released).
The HUD doesn't bother me, it's the equipment/item menu that is kind of meh. It's not the worst ever, but it got tedious at times and could use improvement.
There is a case for the randomization of the enemy encounters... i can see that complaint as valid.. BUT I absolutely did not mind the fact that while crafting/improving armor and weapons if I needed something from a specific creature eventually i knew exactly where i needed to go. If i feel like getting in a certain type of fight there is a place in the world where i can have that type of fight.
It's possible to have that
and more randomized/fresh encounters. You just gotta mix it up a little. BBI did it fairly well, but the vanilla game is pretty bad for this.
And yes... as you level up the game becomes easier. Completely unexpected i'm sure /s
Huh? I don't know what you're responding to here. Please quote what you're replying to next time?
I said "lack of challenge
outside of BBI....
And Warrior is awesome. You just need to gitgud.
lawl. I beat the game on Hard mode using mostly a warrior the entire time. Warrior still sucks and is by far the worst class. Hell it'd be infinitely better if it could
dodge.
And my assassin can burn through Daimon in about 3 minute with nothing at all for boosts. Add in the QPs, the Explosive Arrows and Dat gold forged Devil's Bane and it's a fuckin joke. 9 Arrows climb head gouge till golden brown.
Ahem:
Except when it is, I guess. XD
Nighttime would've been more terrifying if enemies hit harder and you weren't allowed to save everywhere. As it is, even in the early game you're able to cross large distances because enemies usually don't hit too badly, you can outrun them, and also because you're allowed to save anywhere, so losing progress isn't a big deal unless you just forgot to save. Imagine if you were only allowed to save at key spots spaced out; you'd have to be much more cautious. Nighttime isn't a big deal.
Agreed completely! This was the biggest disappointment for me, because the reviews really hyped this a lot and it was the most exciting part of the game for me. When night fell the first time while I was adventuring, I was all "Oh shit I think I'm in trouble now..." because of the hype. Then it turns out there was very little danger at all. I did not get to feel this foreboding sense of dread at all in the end.
Like usually 30fps with occasional, minor drops?
On PS3, usually 30fps with occasional
massive drops. Slideshow level at times, depending on the enemy you're fighting and/or the spells and abilities you are using. If you use a Mystic Knight against the Ur-Dragon, a slideshow is probably faster.
You know at this point, I rather Capcom make a Dragon Dogma 2 then a PC port of the first game.
Thank you!
BBI has a big edge on any other ARPG (including souls games) in the gameplay , magic and atmosphere department
Yeeeeesh. Couldn't disagree more. Magic I'll give you but the rest.... no way. Eh opinions and all that, but there is nothing, nothing in DD that approaches the level of atmosphere of Tower of Latria, the Catacombs (compared to the DD catacombs which is ok, but so flat and lifeless in comparison to Dark Souls's), New Londo Ruins, Anor Londo, Valley of Defilement, etc etc.
I'd like to address the rest of your post but your reply style is rather clunky. I don't get why you wrapped all your own replies inside the quote, now it disappears while I quote you. Oh well, can't be bothered to copy/paste and format this correctly, sorry. All I can say is this:
- Repetitive encounters, indeed. It's the same wolves and goblins and harpies at the same places all the time (outside of BBI). And enemy/monster design is generic as hell (again, outside of BBI), so that doesn't help.
- The chair doesn't work to make the pawn silent. It just doesn't, period. I'm convinced anyone who says otherwise is lying or is repeating something they've read without having tested it.
- "Bounty board" style side-quests in general are awful and shouldn't exist, period. Just because content is optional isn't a good excuse for this content to suck. Moreover, my main point was that there are rather really few meaningful side-quests at all.
- Not sure why you brought up Skyrim since I don't like it.
- I never farmed the Everfall chests, I don't have OCD, it's just a stupid mechanic in itself, that's all I'm saying.
- "The males had bikini armor too", this isn't what I'm talking about, I was talking about armour that look OK on males and get turned into a bikini on a female (look
here), that shit's unacceptable IMO. Also, even the decent armours often turned into boobplate when equipped on a large/busty female (my alt PSN's Arisen is a large dark skinned Amazon-like woman and the Coat of Oblivion has two lumps on the chest that my main PSN's and male pawns don't have... whyyyy), which is idiotic as hell but possibly a symptom of their rendering engine. -_-
- This sentence: "I feel like everyone who complains about this is one of those people who got stomped by bandits and is still mad." is really bizarre when replying to someone who complained about the
lack of challenge... and no, Everfall wasn't particularly hard.
tl;dr BBI is pretty damn awesome, the rest of the game is pretty good but deeply flawed, a sequel would surely improve most flaws since they did with BBI.
Except for those Different Sky quests they added, whyyyyy. So bad.
I'd go on a whim and blame the entire FPS drops on the mystic Knight class, and I still love using him. FPS drops be damn when you fucking all types of shit up, you learn to live with it lol.
I get massive FPS drops and I rarely play the MK (though it's a fun class), so it's not limited to that.
That's not true: you don't need a Gold account to exploit the pawn system. And with a gold account you can actually have 2 saves: 1 save in the HD and another one since you have access to cloud saving (or even more if you use a usb memory to save your games). Also, since I have 2 silver accounts I can have more characters at my disposal, but honestly I don't feel the need for that.
But without a Gold account you wouldn't be able to use any online pawn, right? Nor could you fight the online Ur-Dragon, though to be fair that encounter is asinine and stupid (yay another criticism to add to the pile
) and you wouldn't be missing out much. But missing out on the online pawn community would make the game much weaker.
I stand corrected with regards to the cloud/HDD but that sounds like an odd exploit to me rather than intended design.
