Haven't played Bastion so really wasn't expecting anything from this but it's starting to sound really impressive!

Reminds me when CNET gave things 4.5/5 and no cons... I fucking hate it when this happens...

I don't really see how a low-quality speaker pumping the narrator's voice would create the definitive edition.
I, too, am always perplexed when someone that has played a game that I haven't played has an opinion on said game.

Lookin' good. I liked Bastion's story/art/soundtrack/world a lot more than I liked the gameplay, but Transistor looks like it could be even better, so I'm in as soon as Steam lets me download. C'mon Steam.

I've never heard of this. 10 seconds into the IGN video review they mentioned this is by the devs who did Bastion?

I immediately cut the review off. Say no more. I need a Playstation 4 like yesterday.

What is this "Quarter to Three" thing? They seem to give out bad scores to a lot of popular games.

But overall, nice reviews! Looking foward to playing Transistor.

Agreed lol. It's a minor thing. It does add to the immersion factor a touch though. Works great in other games too, like Shadow Fall for example.

So I assume you can't use this feature even if you're using a DS4 with your PC?

Why? A game isn't measured by how many flaws it has. Tetris is a perfect game, doesn't mean I think it's the greatest game ever.
What's funny is people who complain about this don't actually read the reviews.

If they bothered reading them they would see the reviewer has critiques in the actual review, just nothing bad enough to throw in a "Shit" column. Like this game for instance, just because it doesn't have any "shit" or "bad" problems doesn't mean it can't be a 8, 8 is a great score and if anyone bothered to read her review they would see why she gave it an 8 but people just want that 1 sentence quote or the "good/bad" column.

Just read Chick's review, very interesting perspective. He loved Bastion and does a great job detailing why he feels like Transistor is a step back.

I highly doubt I'll fully agree with Chick's consensus, as I often don't, but I love reading his reviews. He always comes from a unique, honest point of view (his own), and his reviews are always fun to read.

Maybe he had some ridiculously high standards that didn't get met?

Maybe you guys could, you know, actually read Tom Chick's review to see why he didn't like Transistor very much while he absolutely loved Bastion?

It's very convenient that he has a written review just sitting there waiting to be read so you can read it instead of making weird assumptions or guesses at what he's thinking.

That's fine and all, but this game is pretty much the complete antithesis of those types of games.

He is honest with his opinions and uses all the scale, if a game feels like a two to him that´s what he is gonna do, you don´t have to agree i almost never do, but i like his reviews a lot of people complains that scores are useless etc... but that´s because a lot of sites almost never uses all the scale, so we end up in a situation where a seven or even an eight is considered bad, he uses all the scale he sets up to use and don´t expect every one to agree with him and he uses it in all the games he reviews

I've already decided that I'll get Transistor (eventually). But this is the review I'm gonna reward with a click. What can I say, I like Tom's reviews.

Hell no, I'm not giving his site clicks. He's the guy that did the infamous The Last of Us review. It's a shame too, I used to love him in Tom vs Bruce.

Quarter to Three eh.

Seems like every game I look forward to he gives a low score. We must have completely different tastes. All the power to the guy for giving out his opinions as long as he remains objective.

Sony hasn't released official PC drivers for the DS4. There is software to get your DS4 running on PC as an xinput controller, but it can't use the speakers as of yet.

The DS4 is my primary game controller on PC and it works amazingly.

So glad this has been so warmly received! All I wanna do is download it. Why won't you let me download it??

Restart your Steam client, will allow you to download.

Sorry about the wrong score for the Escapist's review, Jim. Fixed now.

I'm gonna go through the posts in this thread again to see if I missed anything, and then I'm gonna make dinner. So I won't be able to update for ~1 hour.

Btw I re-added PlayStation Lifestyle because people say it's not banned anymore, but the link still gets censored. I'll just leave it there though.

Thanks for the help everyone. Can't wait to jump into this game!

God forbid not everyone agrees on everything :p

Installing the game on Steam right now, looking forward to it - been staying completely blind aside from a screenshot or two.

Cannot wait to dl this. Bastion was one of my favorite games of this past generation. Hoping to get some time to finish up Child of Light before diving into this, though...

If you read the article as well, she explains as to why there are no cons or any flaws really. For cons, even if you like everything, put in little nit picks on what you think should be better or should be removed, something like that. Don't leave it blank when it's an 8/10.

These paragraphs have done a good job of turning me off the game.

The biggest problem with Transistor is that it’s a terribly confused game. Its own variety literally falls apart. You can use every power you find in one of three ways: as an attack, as a modifier to another attack, or as a passive ability. This is an intriguing system and the variety of configurations is staggering. If you look behind the walls of exposition, you can even admire all the possibility, laid out as an exhaustive screen of every possible combination for each power. You’ll thrill to all the mix and match, getting your character build just right.

Then you’ll discover that the penalty for getting hurt is having one or your powers knocked out of commission until you’ve passed two more checkpoints. Now the combat has fallen apart. Now you have to rejigger your character. Now you have to play with fewer skills, or with skills you didn’t want to use. Now you have to flounder through the atrocious interface for setting up your skills. It’s bad enough that as you’re playing, there’s no way to call up the details of your current loadout. You can only reconfigure your character at checkpoints, which is fair enough. But why is that the only place you can get information on what your skills do? Why can’t I check my skills while I’m playing? Why does Transistor spend so much time with the stats locked up, especially since it’s going to force me to use the ones I don’t want to use?

Furthermore, there’s not much information about what the monsters are doing, or how they’re doing it, or what you’re supposed to do in response. Some monsters cloak, some fire homing projectiles, some heal themselves. I just spammed attacks as best as I could, never the wiser about how to compromise cloaking, what determined how fast a homing attack would hit me, or how to prevent monsters from healing themselves. I don’t doubt there’s a relatively rich tactical interplay at work. But I had no easy way and no incentive to figure it out.

There is literally no such thing as an "objective" review.

Except for this, of course: http://www.objectivegamereviews.com/

That is true and kind of funny. Everyone is predisposed to their likes and dislikes. I kind of just meant going into it to play a game and giving an honest opinion of the quality without having an agenda. Nothing wrong with a 2/5 if you believe the game is of the 2/5 quality and give proper reasoning for the score. If however this dude is shitting on popular games in order to gain website traffic I hope he burns his toast every morning.
From reading his review I gather it was honest and not malicious.

He goes out of his way to give everything that is popular/well reviewed a low score, so I would not put much weight in his verdict.
edit: For those wondering, look at the big games on Metacritic, he nearly always gives a 2/3.

Man gave Tearaway and Saints Row 4 a 5/5, he can do no wrong

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
Welp, they gave me a chance to re-consider when I couldn't download at midnight, but those scores are good enough for me. I'm not reading them because fresh experience and I already wanted the game anyway.
*Pre-ordered*
Which is kinda weird considering it'll go live any minute/hour/day now.

I believe it will go live around 3PM Eastern, which isn't for quite a long time.

Steam version is available now.
