I am also a PC enthusiast but the difference with me is that even though i have a high end PC, i also own a PS4 as well...I've been already impressed with a few PS4 games..Infamous and Killzone as a visual standpoint...to see that coming from PS4 within PS4 launch window simply amazes me and just tells me that a lot of people will be eating a big ass dish of crow when developers start to harness the PS4 hardware the way it was "designed" to be harnessed and tapped.
Maybe some PC only gamers do this because they get pissed that they know they will be missing out on some really great AAA PS4 exclusives that will rival graphics of high end PC games...maybe not match them but come very close. I mean killzone looked pretty damn good and its hard for me to think of any of my PC games that blow it out of the way...in fact there arent any PC games that do...Killzone and Infamous both rival some of the best graphics my PC can push outside of resolutions over 1080p and the standard of 60fps...there was not much difference other than that when comparing the best of both worlds in terms of visuals
Maybe some of the PC comments in "console only" threads is just a release of inner frustrated feelings towards seeing a 400 dollar console rival visuals of their 1000+ dollar gaming PC? I dont know..im not saying thats it but its really the only real logical reason that makes the most sense why people act this way...its called jealousy.
I just wish PC only gamers stay out of console threads because you never see the opposite happen in here...never!
I have a real passion for gaming...so i love both PC and console gaming...most gamers at Gaf are like this...its only a few that stick out like a sore thumb so its not a huge deal....

What's wrong with that statement? Google's main business is the collection of data and targeted advertising. To do that, they data mine. And, unsurprisingly, they've been busted more than a few times circumventing your desktop's privacy settings and reading whatever you have in your Google Drive or Gmail. This isn't tin foil hat stuff, its what you expect from Google - a company that makes most of its money off AdWords - for Christ's sake.
Its not particularly a bad thing either. Most people don't care because the services they provide are good and there aren't any repercussions for disclosing your love of neotantra to Google. Most people will still use Google Maps, even if Google will try and tell you to visit your nearest Chinese chain restaurant, because its probably the best map application most people have access to.

Or you could in fact read what gatti-man (who owns a PS4) had been responding to (instead of making a strawman), which was some one trying to deflect away from gatti-man's point (that he is a bit disappointed by how powerful the PS4 is vs PC compared to the 360 and PS3 vs PC when they came out).
It is also complete bullshit to claim that console gamers do not go into PC threads to spread crap (I responded to someone not 24 hours ago doing it in an other thread).

Well, 2x4gig RAM got cheaper in '12/'13 dropping from ~100 to 50 and now it's going back up to ~70.
Still cheaper then in '09.

This is true; I recently made the mistake of saying I felt PC was inferior to console gaming because of the exclusives consoles get. It was worded poorly, and I was immediately taken to task for it. That doesn't happen in the console threads. Even though I felt the line of thought was legit (I didn't qualify it with the OP's use of AAA titles; PC gamers do miss some console exclusive AAA games), the environment seemed so hostile that it wasn't necessary to continue, I would never get that point across.
Are there implications to the power comparability between PC/New-gen vs. PC/Current Gen? That made-for-console AAA games will be gimped for PC? Is that possible, really?
I'm not trying to be pedantic; if you own a PC and a new-gen console, why would you be (a bit) disappointed about your PS4 being less powerful? How does it impact the PC community?
Cause and effect, Console's are more popular so console sensibilities may infect the PC space (like locked 30 FPS for example), same story with mobile games being ported to steam.

Thats an... example. I remember a recent Souls game being locked or something. Durante fixed at least DSI, I know that much.
Still, isn't that more of a developer design decision (DSII Hypermode enemies at 60fps, for instance) than a technical limtation imposed by consoles?

I am not though, I am just trying to say it's not as shitty as people made it out to be.. I have love for gaming and when I see people bitching and moaning about dumb shit.. If you are not from North America or you are but have no job and no money and no internet.. yeah always online is horrible for anyone else we can deal with it... 3rd world contries would have problems being always online but where I sit right now I am always online anyway.. So Personally I don't see the big deal since most devices are shifting into that direction...
I will always stick up for any gaming console because it's my favorite place to game.. How many people bought IPADS instead of a system this year? Or just upgraded their phone? All the games on that stuff are shit but people gobble it up like crazy

Unique users would be really interesting but almost impossible to determine with any degree of accuracy for consoles or PCs. In any case revenue is typically the sole driving factor for the sort of companies whose products are made based on trying to imitate what succeeded for other companies.
ed: Actually considering League of Legends alone has about 70million users a month, it's pretty clear that unique users is going to go to the PC as well.
Given an advantage PC has over console's is customization in everything, Dark Souls and Need for Speed would be unacceptable, there's no reason why that should be the case.
I don't know about hypermode enemies at 60FPS but that sounds like the animation is tied to the framerate, which again is another oversight that shouldn't be allowed in the PC space.
And that has nothing to do with PC's being more powerful than consoles. Even in PC land, more graphics/spec isn't profitable, since 90% of that money is MMO and MOBA stuff, none of which have graphics that push the boundaries of technology, or impossible to achieve in a console.
Therefore it's pointless to argue that consoles are too weak compared to PC.

Ps4 being $350 would force Nintendo to drop wii u price right? I feel like they would have to at that point. Why would average joe spend 300 on a wii u when he could spend 350 on a ps4. The hard drive size number on wii u box isn't doing it any favors either. A consumer who doesn't know what that means (very old people who don't care about tech for example) see 32gb vs 500gb. The number difference is quite large.

Well it matters because I'm not getting that wow factor like the first time I played kameo or pgr3 or the first time I saw that snow effect in Resistance FOM. I mean that's why I'm personally dissappointed. Normally atleast one console comes out with a wow factor of power. If it doesn't wow me now it likely never will as the 360 and ps3 stopped wowing me 2-3 years after launch which is when I really stopped using them for the most part and went back to almost exclusively pc games.
This is probably why most 360 gamers haven't upgraded yet according to MS. Not enough wow. Not enough gotta have it.
If you are referring to me I own an x1 and ps4. I also owned a wiiu at one time. I've never been pc only. I was impressed by parts of killzone but infamous no not at all. I feel it could have entirely been done on last gen hardware besides resolution and framerate. The models and effects aren't really impressive. The game is more fun than killzone though that's for sure. Neither have come close to wowing me.
Also get off it with the jealousy. A 1000 gaming PC will produce much better image quality than a ps4. I mean if you're going to speak about pc you should take your own advice and own one right?
It is a buisness decision. There are companies who won't spend the money to optimize for each platform option. PC is just one part of the larger pie. It isn't just performance limitations, but poor ports quite often as well. People get mad about that the longer a console generation goes, since the PC side of things doesn't stay in limbo for several years and they aren't able to do on console title port X what they can for PC release Y and call BS on it.
One thing that will come from the transition to the new console generation will be the coding for better use of multicore/thread use over time, where as in the prior gen most stuff was just single core/thread use predominantly which left a lot of newer hardware (CPU wise) underutilized. Going forward, it will still be underutilized since many developers will design to target console specs first, but it shouldn't be as bad as before.
Getting off topic here a bit.. but I know what he's talking about, he just needed to backed it up with details or sources. In relation to all those link's he called 'bullshit", what he probably meant was that the news was a little twisted and regurgitated as fact. It's sorta a twisted tale but here we go! So in response to those four links regarding MS wanting to sell off Xbox...
The Bill Gates quote about being willing to sell off Xbox and Bing, actually came from a Fox Business 1 hour interview with directed audience questions. One of the questions was directly "Would you approve of Xbox and Bill sell off if Satya Nadella wanted it. Bill Gates first defended Xbox and Bing as vital, but also said that he would support Nadella's choices. Which is good because they just named him CEO and saying "No we don't support Nadella on that" would be a baaaaad start to a new CEO's term.

The source of all the Elop selling Xbox details, actually came from a Bloomberg article, which Microsoft responded, quoted in the same article via Frank Shaw, saying, "“We appreciate Bloomberg’s foray into fiction and look forward to future episodes."

This is the single source for all Xbox sales rumours surrounding Elop. The single one. Investor calls from outside of the company to sell are nothing new, they've been calling the sale of everything that isn't windows and office for decades. Not only that, the article is vague on it sources, and calls them, "the people". Look at the copy:
"Stephen Elop, a candidate to replace Steve Ballmer as Microsoft Corp.’s chief executive officer, would consider breaking with decades of tradition by focusing the company’s strategy around making the popular Office software programs like Word, Excel and PowerPoint available on a broad variety of smartphones and tablets, including those made by Apple Inc. and Google Inc., said three people with knowledge of his thinking."

The article doesn't quote any sources other than "People will knowledge of his thinking". Elop never said it publicly, no other article surfaced, with sources, based on this info. However, almost all Elop related calls to sell Xbox came from this article, or articles quoting this article.. or articles quoting those articles.. and so on. The unsupported rumour, based on heresay without sources, became a source, became fact. And now everyone thinks MS was considering to sell Xbox.

Well first, I'd argue that the difference from KZ3 to KZSF is really just as big as Ratchet UYA to Ratchet FToD. Or as big as Black to Resistance Fall of Man.
I think Forza 5 running at twice the frame rate and resolution also represents a substantial difference over PGR3.
There's a couple of reasons you aren't getting that wow.
1) a 400 dollar box in 2005 will get you a lot further than a 400 dollar box in 2013 simply due to inflation. But even in this market, its probably not a good idea to launch a console at 500 dollars.
2) Even at 400 dollars in 2005, the Xbox 360 was taking substantial losses. I think it was around 520 bucks for the build of materials. The PS4 build of materials was estimated at what, 395 dollars? We simply can not expect Sony or MS to subsidize these consoles.
3) You were easier to wow back in 2005. High resolution video and screenshots for video games were not plentiful. You had to play the 360 and PS3 in order to really appreciate the games visuals. Videos back then looked like shit. It was simply an easier time to be impressed. Now with everything running in HD and everyone has HD phones and computer monitors and TVs, its just not a big deal anymore.
4) Last gen dragged on for way too long. This allowed high end PC games to steal the spotlight for visuals. That works against consoles.
I'd argue the PS4 brings a very appropriate power upgrade to the table. Games like inFamous, the Order, and Killzone all look amazing. And I expect UC4, Sony Santa Monica, and Quantic Dream to knock our socks off.

Could that be because devs/pubs are making larger profit margins on consoles? Thats the only way it makes sense. I saw the article about PC overtaking console in revenue. Will that stay the same in a year or two? Which companies are gaining the most profit from PC? Those are probably the guys who prioritize PC first, as that is where their money comes from. Like Epic, Valve, a bunch I can't remember.
Can't really argue with that. I just never expected PC gamers to ever be 'wowed' by console games, graphically. At least, since the last couple generations. I figured PC gamers bought consoles solely for the exclusives and their gameplay. Idk if theres TLOU, UC2, or Lost Oddessy equivalents on PC and that why they bothered with consoles at all.
