Battlefield is a franchise name, just like Halo...Halo Spartan Assault...with the logic some people are saying about Battlefield, you could argue that Halo is NOT a top down shooter, but Halo Spartan Assault is a spinoff of the Halo franchise.

If Battlefield can create a series of different games for itself based on the BF brand, that'd be awesome for the brand in my opinion.

If this is a small scale 5v5 or 6v6, or even 8v8, it would be amazing.

Imagine a concept of CTs vs terrorists and you've got separate squads within the CT team that preposition themselves around a building or whatever and then when the game starts, you attack.

I bet there will be a round-based mode of attack and defend, one life per round, etc. That'd be awesome if they do it right....like Counter-strike.

Yea but halo spartan assualt is based in Halo lore, battlefield has no lore, the games called BATTLEFIELD, seems kinda goofy having it be about cops and robbers but ifi ts good I don' t care

Not to self, never try to be friends with Kittens. My father was a cop for 12 years, he saved lives and had to deal with horrible shit like dead bodies of kids I went to school with and had to fish a dead pregnant woman out of a river and tell her family. People that hate cops love to talk shit when a cop does something horrible, but they never thank the thousands and thousands of cops who actually do their jobs right and save and protect people.

Come on, man. It's not like Battlefield is a realistic depiction of war, is it? Think of it more in terms of a movie, like Heat. I think it'll be a fun way to mix shit up.

Dude, its not a question of realism, its a question of authenticity.

The game should try and be remotely consistent with the nature of the setting presented.

Kittens is a joke account, c'mon guys.

Killing cops is a joke? Sure there are corrupt cops out there but they represent the smallest minority. This dudes just spreading hate and BS.

Edit: To keep things on topic, after the fiasco of BF4 turned me off to Battlefield (which used to be my favorite fps franchise) I'm hesitant to hype myself up for this. Visceral has to show me they can make it work.

I don't see it being about lore though, it's about the brand. Halo and Battlefield are established brands. Just like Warcraft, it's got RTS and MMO. Now Blizzard are making a MOBA game featuring all the characters from the Blizzard games...same concept in my opinion.

When I think of Battlefield, I think of the gameplay, the squads, the gunplay, the scope whether it's large scale vehicular warfare or small scale infantry warfare...it's evolved from what it was in BF1942.

Look at Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2...that game is freaking amazing and I'm surprised DICE hasn't made that a real game yet.

Maybe this BF Hardpoint is similar?

I just hope this game isn't battlefield skinned "cops and robbers."

Ha, that Kittens, what a joker, what a ca-

oh

ohhhhhhh oh no

Holy shit.

Oddly enough it's the same hate/stereotyping he claims to be against. Only when it fits his agenda.

I know people are jumping all over the 'fuck da police' posts, but EA and anyone else putting the player in a kill or be killed scenario with police are exploiting this fascination and fantasy as entertainment just the same as any book or show or movie does when it deals with following criminals. I remember folks getting angry at people expressing excitement at the thought of being a terrorist around the time of CS betas pre-9/11.

As long as it feels like a highly enhanced first-person version of this:

Then I'll be happy.[/QUOTE]I suspect this will be more like Call of Duty except you're the police. Still, I'd rather that than yet another game where you're a soldier.

Although I've thankfully never been involved in one, I don't think Battlefield is an authentic depiction of war ("I bagsy the tank!"). It's a fantasy, just like this is.

Did you not like Heat?

BF : Payday

I'm very okay with this.

Kotaku is now reporting on it as well.

With E3 just two weeks away, an announcement either debunking or confirming Hardline's existence should be right around the corner. Kotaku has reached out to EA for comment and will update this post if they reply.

How does this even work? Kotaku was at the press event they know everything but can't tell us because NDA.
So what are they asking EA how much they can say, or informing them about the leak, or what? I can't imagine how infuriating it must be for them. I'm angry and confused just thinking about it.

Well, the writer of that article wasn't at any press event. (Neither was I, if you're wondering.)

Killing cops in video games should be illegal, replace them with robots.

They're not real cops :)

Yeah EA said something to the effect of "and the game will have to do well, especially on next-gen" which technically implied last-gen versions exist.

Apparently most of Ghost UK is back on NFS again, and working on Battlefield was a temporary assignment until Ghost Gothenburg decided what to do with the series.

Ah, that's good to know.

I can't muster any hype for this. They shit the bed with BF4 and dead space 3 was garbage so I don't trust visceral that much either. If I was EA I'd be looking for a way to win the fan base back, not having a B team churn out more crap.

Not caring unless this is legit going in a "Bad Company" direction. Bad Company 2 is by far the best BF game, at least of the ones I've played (Bf2 on).

REAL destructibility as nearly every wall could be taken down. None of this "levolution" bullcrap.
