Tomodachi Life |OT| Please don't try to understand

Same here, is there an embargo or is no outlet reviewing this game?

I'll be honest: just from my impressions of reading online, this doesn't even look like the kind of game I'm interested in. Looks more like a time-wasting iOS app with minimal involvement.
Thursday, 11pm; it's in the op.

Excited to get my hands on this. Looks like a good laugh on the 10 minute commute to/from university, and I have a huge craving for weird games right now. Gonna be my first full retail game I'm buying off the eShop too - just feels right to keep something like this in the system all the time.

Could anyone make a QR Code of the Fils-a-Mech Mii? I never got him in Streetpass Plaza :( Was he even distributed to Europe?

Could be his Mii is locked though.

Sadly not sharable. And no, Europe never got him, which sucks for us.

But I had a go at recreating him.

Can't wait to see what my gold pants Riccitiello gets himself into. Maybe him and Danny Bilson will hang out at a café and talk about their previous positions.

Wish my Amazon pre-order would ship already. It's making me nervous :p

You might be OK. I've pre-ordered games from Amazon and haven't gotten shipping notifications until like 4AM the night before launch day, and have gotten them on time.

Watching videos and reading impressions still leave me unsure if I'll like this game, so I haven't hit the preorder button yet, but if I like what I read in reviews tomorrow morning, I may just buy it at the store when I'm done work.

Aw yiss, I thought I had missed out on Filsamech, but I just went to the Mii Plaza and sure enough he was there.

Also, just realized I have Iwata as well. Have they released Miyamoto yet?

I don't doubt amazon anymore (It looked like like my copy of P4A shipped at 3am release day and it still got to me on time) but I really wish I would just get that shipping email..

Super excited to get my hands on this. Unfortunately I've been getting back into ACNL and will have to drop off that for a bit but I'm having fun making and importing miis in preparation!

Just saw OP. The US and UK price being the same figure (bar currency) is strange. Amazon UK lists the game at £29.86. Is the US $35 price the same as the eShop cost?

I completely forgot this game is out tomorrow.

Think I'm gonna grab it digitally like I did with Animal Crossing. I have some Digital Deluxe promo codes left so that will help.

WOOOH Downloading now!!

Apparently GAME UK codes work now, unlike Mario Kart 8 codes where I had to wait until midnight BST

First reviews:

Canadian Online Gamers: 82/100
I walked into Tomodachi Life expecting nothing and walked out having not regretted a moment of it. It’s a game unlike anything I’ve played before. It’s laid back and it’s a good, clean, silly-fun game that will no doubt appeal more towards a social like audience. As for the hardcore gamers out there, I issue you a challenge: pick up Tomodachi Life, whether you rent, borrow, or play some form of demo, and tell me you haven’t cracked smile. Tomodachi Life is loaded with Nintendo charm and the perfect kind of wind-down-after-work game that reminds me why I started playing games in the first place.

CheatCode Central: 4.4/5
Tomodachi Life is a unique game. It's a simulation, sure, but the random elements and varying personalities of the Miis keep it from being as straightforward as something conventional like The Sims. It's more of an opportunity to put Miis into a virtual world and play around with them. The players won't always have control, but they'll still have a good time. That said, I can see some people who are craving something more straightforward feeling letdown by the fact that don't have total control over the Miis lives and actions. Overall, I think anyone who takes a chance on this unorthodox property will have a positive experience, and hope Nintendo will build upon this franchise.

Digital Spy: 3/5
A bonkers life-sim with bags of personality and lots of charm, the entertaining Tomodachi Life is let down only by its limitations as a gaming experience.

Eurogamer: 5/10
Tomodachi Life is a simple, throwaway toy, then - one with plenty of cute tricks, but not quite enough of them to stop you from tossing it aside after a handful of hours. There's no shame in that, of course - especially from a company that's excelled in novelty ever since Gunpei Yokoi's Love Tester, a device obliquely referenced in the metrics that measure the compatibility and chemistry between each of your islanders. Yet despite its exuberance and eccentricity, it's hard to recommend a life simulator with no real sense of simulation, and very little in the way of life.

CGMagazine - 7/10
Tomodachi Life might not be a masterpiece or particularly original, but is undeniably entertaining and so consistently peculiar that it’s hard to put down simply because you’ll keep thinking you’ll wrap your head around what’s happening only to be defied by even stranger new developments. Worth a look for sure, if only to confirm that the game actually exists.

Nintendo Life - 8/10
Despite concerns regarding its suitability for core gamers, Tomodachi Life is a title which has truly universal appeal; the barrier to entry which exists in many pieces of software — Animal Crossing: New Leaf included — is all but removed here, making this feel more like a casual mobile title. Some will see that as a negative, but under Nintendo's watchful eye, this cookie-cutter concept is expanded and improved almost beyond measure. Tomodachi Life is perhaps best described as the glorious culmination of the Mii concept that was heralded by the release of the Wii back in 2006, and at long last gives your virtual avatar a life of its own — as well as many humorous and entertaining escapades to enjoy.

If anyone wants to make a review thread, feel free. I'm going to bed now so I wouldn't be able to update it.

my god this avatar owns
After reading a couple of the reviews, It sounds like something I wouldn't mind trying but not for the best part of £30.

Wow, hearing the guy (well, me!) speaking my name (and getting it right!) is amazing. Can already tell I'm going to love this!

Think I've spotted a few localisation differences already.

For starters, the first list of food had things like Fish and Chips, Crisps and Tea.

Secondly, the shopkeeper had a robot head instead of the wooden carving block head I've seen them all have in demo videos.

This game looks like it might be able to be what I was hoping to get from The Sims. In The Sims, I enjoyed making friends, family members, and celebrities, and then watching them live and interact.... however, The Sims required too much of my involvement, when I wanted something more akin to an ant farm. This might be just the thing for me.

Just made my parents and my sister. The personality thing seems a bit wonky (one of them is extremely caring and their personality is "reserved"?) Otherwise, it's adorable :D

You can re-edit their personality whenever you want to at the town hall FYI.

Very impressed with the text to speech in this so far. It seems pretty close to natural and even above some PC apps.

I've purchased games with lower reviews than this (that I ended up enjoying a lot), so not too worried about buyer's remorse just yet.

For what it's worth, the game has actually made me laugh a couple of times already. Do put your friends in first as priority, it's worth it.

I am impressed with the speech synthesizer. It pronounces things right that it really has no business being able to get right on the first try.

Also, how do I get a Mii from the Mii Plaza into the game? I kind of want to get Nikki in there.

Find the Mii in Mii Plaza. Check their info and choose Mii Maker

From Mii Plaza, save it to your Mii Maker. Tomodachi can then import from there.

Glad everyone's adding Nikki, keeping her alive!

The app might be dead, but Nikki shall live on!

I wonder what personality she should have. Need to be a peppy one, I'd think.

Oh god, I feel so bad. I added Bill Trinen to my island and gave him such a dorky voice and personality. God, this game is so much fun!

EDIT: Oh wow, Bill just farted and became sad. I am laughing so hard!

I went by what we knew from her notes on swapnote, she liked beaches - a bit of sport and was always cheerful. So she's an energetic extrovert in my game, but could also work as an easy going optimist.
