The Legend of Zelda Wii-U Shown at Nintendo Digital Event ["2015"]

They need to shave Link's head, have him grow a beard and put him in power armor so he won't look like a girl.

But seriously, I absolutely love the artstyle. Definitely one of the best looking games I've seen this E3.

Someone said the grass looks bad... what?

I wish the character design looked more like an improved version of this:

I don't

Meh, Zelda always bored me to tears.

Where's my new F-Zero, Ninty???

Zelda is the past of F-Zero.

lol You thought TP looked realistic? Is that how you're spinning it? This game resembles TP strongly as did the demo from two years ago. But they've adopted the SS character look which is cool.

I didn't think TP was realistically styled but it was definitely much less appealing to me. The character design and color pallets were much different and, to me, lifeless.

Very excited about this. They're being directly inspired by the original Zelda, and really do seem to want to break the mold on this one. I just hope they allow Hero Mode from the outset; fix the difficulty, and Zelda could be right back on track.

Wait, the footage was rendered in-game? That is impressive. Some good looking cutscenes then! I wonder if it will be as fluent during gameplay though...

please be a girl, the anger gives me a hard-on

lol
Same here.

Anyways, I'm really really loving the look of this game. Link looks great, and the environment they've shown looks gorgeous.

However, as I've stated in the other thread, I'm wasn't a huge fan of ALBW. So I hope they don't go to crazy with the open world structure.
ALBW has some of the most pitifully simple dungeon design in the series's history thanks to it's dumb open world design.
I don't want to lose the amazing puzzle design the series is known for because they want to dick around with the structure.

Come on guys, that's not a female Link. It's just a rather feminine, teenage boy. Flat chest gives it away if nothing else. Sure, girls can be pretty flat too, but come on.

Yeah, I'm wondering if those thinking it's a girl because he "looks feminine" have ever actually seen Link before. He has almost always looked very androgynous; Link has never looked like a bastion of masculinity. I mean, hey, if it is a girl, then great. But it looks a lot like Link. And you'd think if Nintendo were to make Link female this time around, they'd put a little more effort into doing so than just adding a ponytail.

Either way, the game looks fantastic - can't wait to see it in motion. (*meaning actual gameplay)

Different tastes anyone? Not everyone has to like it.

No, but it's just a bit inane that you're complaining about... LoZ having an "anime style"? What do you even mean by "anime style"? The series uses many "anime styles" each of its games.

And is it just the style of the game that's holding you back from potentially enjoying it? That's even more inane!
This is a bit reminiscent of the whole Wind Waker thing. Except... it's not the majority of people that are complaining. It's just a select few.

Complaining to complain? Or what?

Hated Link's design.
Hated futuristic setting.
Loved artstyle, even though that's not what I want for Zelda.
So I'm a bit disappointed after waiting for years...
:(

But the open world seems very very cool! But I'm not hyped for the game as I was for the others, too much wrong things imo.

Seriously? I mean.. Goddamn. Futuristic setting? Where are you even pulling that from? Or are you just trying to parody the people that are complaining about incredibly inane things? I can't even tell anymore.

You can already see some npc's. I know it has been repeated to nauseaum that this is ingame, but is futher proof, becuase you couldnt even catch them in the video. Thats the real world we are going to be, not a montage, the game seems to be already quite long into development, maybe only some details and dungeons need to be done.

Same here, my friend. Same here. Everything looks drop dead gorgeous, but I am not content with Link's design. Hopefully it'll grow on me, or I hope Nintendo redesigns him in the year to come (like Sucker Punch did with Cole, in Infamous 2).

The art style is incredible. It's the perfect mix between realistic and cartoony. If all that grass is actually in the game and looks that good. Good lawd.

Quick, someone add this to that tech demo vs real game chart!

Seems very plausible to me that it could be a straight screenshot from the game. The mountains in the background are not very detailed. (don't have all the objects loaded)

This. Is fucking awesome.

At first glance I was like "oh man not that Skyward Sword art style again", but now I really like what I see.

This is honestly the most excited I've been for a Zelda game since A Link to the Past.
Gorgeous.

Am I the only one who finds this art style... Soulless? I don't know, to me it looked like something fan made tbh. Skyward Sword looked better than this imo.

It looks almost like something Ghibli/Miyazaki could have done, and there is nothing soulless about that.

And this game is at least a year off, it will only look better. What if it improves as much as Super Mario 3D World did?

I don't have a Wii U yet, but do they still use Wiimote motion controls on WiiU games? I fucking hope not. If this game controls like Skyward Sword it's a no buy for me. I couldn't get through the first 2 hours of that game before I dropped it. Buttons please! I imagine it will use the gamepad? which would be ok. Using the touch screen for item management and maps could be cool.

It bears mentioning: Go look at Skyward Sword at E3 2010 and then E3 2011 or 3D World at E3 and release.

Visuals are always last to be polished for Nintendo games and that already looks pretty fucking amazing. Haven't been this hyped since 2004 :)

It feels like Wii U is finally unlocking Nintendos creativity in a scale where it fits technically.

Wii was never quite enough. This is perfect.

Wooooow. That looks amazing!

You can see the inspiration draws from a lot of stuff: definitely Skyrim and Mononoke as well. 2015 is going to be an exciting year for this franchise!

I love how just from the image of the wide vast landscape, you can see their attempts at making it feel alive and dynamic with all the villages, NPC's, wildflife, foilage, and variety in geography.

I don't really think he looks like a girl, but if for some reason he does I can understand why someone would be upset. Link's a guy. Instead of reestablishing his character and making him into a female character, I would much, much rather they create a new IP around a female hero.

Yes. Why do people feel the need to take away and reverse basic traits of a character like Link...

Hated futuristic setting.

This looks more like moving stone-magic or something along those lines, not straight up "futuristic" technology.

As someone who would have preferred a more realistic Zelda art style....goddamn I'm glad Nintendo doesn't listen to me, that's gorgeous.

Orgasmic.

Best trailer of the show, game of show. Take all my monies etc.

You know Nintendo did things right when even GB (!!) was impressed. :lol

Someone said the grass looks bad... what?

It seemed very shimmery when I was watching it on the stream. Not an awful lot they can really do about it, as it's hard to anti-alias it efficiently - every game that uses foliage suffers to some extent. Better it's there than having a plain textured floor though.

Game looks great. Gives me a lot of Mononoke vibes, all positive. I am thinking that the technical limits of the Wii had the development team really wanting to take another crack at the style laid out by Skyward Sword, which this most closely resembles. I also love the Link design, and I am glad they are finally taking more creative liberties with the look of Adult Link. Minus the blond hair, he actually reminds me more of the old Link to the Past artwork Link than the other 3D incarnations.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much

The game is not set in the future. Robotic enemies and lasers have been in almost every 3D Zelda.

Yes. Why do people feel the need to take away and reverse basic traits of a character like Link...

And why do some people consider Link's sex to be so central to the character?

There has been no gameplay — or even story beats — with significant ties to the main character's sex.

The first time in a long time footage gave me chills, no joke.

Day 1 buy for me.

And I'm loving Link's new look. Nothing wrong with switching up from the green outfit once in a while.
