The Legend of Zelda Wii-U Shown at Nintendo Digital Event ["2015"]

Has anyone pointed out Link's two different colored eyes yet? Am I crazy to think one is green and one is blue?

idk, for me in that pic it looks like link has wide hips.
Is this why some people are suggesting Link is female here? These people are inexplicably being aroused by the sight of the character and desperately wish he wasn't male?

That looks like the Skyward Sword engine ported to Wii U which probably helped them move more quickly with development than if they built a new engine from the ground up.

It will be great to see what they can do with the expanded resources given how constrained SS felt.

And no sign of an annoying companion so far is the best news out of E3 yet.

Its a talking bow and arrow.

I'm really liking how you can see individual houses separated by distance on that open picture, which really is a lot more like the 2D games. I'm sure they'll still have towns, but it'll add a lot to the exploration to see things like that.

You don't even wanna know how excited I was when they showed this. If you saw my reaction, you'd be like "dude calm the fuck down, you're 32 years old... jesus" I am super, SUPER excited for this, we haven't even seen much and I'm already frothing at the mouth at the possibilities.

Not a big fan of pseudo pastel/cell shading, the E3 2011 WiiU Zelda - while limited on partial and physics effects looked much clearer and more realistic, It's like Nintendo want to make a darker more gritty Zelda by showing tech demo's at the start of each console release but then soften up for the actual release because god forbid if they don't cater to all audiences.

I think this has more to do with the fact that developing an HD Zelda that looks as good as that demo would take several years more than it does to do a cel-shaded version. Similar to what they said when people revolted over Wind Waker's style. I think it's pretty obvious Nintendo is struggling with HD development this gen, so it wouldn't surprise me if that played a factor in going cel-shaded again.

That probably has something to do with it. But either way, I like this direction more than just TP HD that they showed off.

I really enjoy this kind of art direction. Stylistic, creative.

Wow. Those screens. Holy shit. This looks and sounds like the greatest Zelda game ever made. One of my problems with Ocarina was that when we saw media in Nintendo Power or whatever else, the game just looked... bigger, more open, than it actually was. Remember those images of Link in a forest shooting at a Poe with a bow? The images of Link in Castle Town, but it was much bigger and not just this static-like area? Stuff like that really set my imagination on fire, especially at that age, and while Ocarina ended up being obviously an amazing game, I never felt like it gave me the product that I had anticipated based on all the screens and the 64DD promises and whatnot.

This looks to rectify that and looks to give me the Zelda game I've always wanted.

Hopefully the game has minimal UI on screen, especially with the gamepad. I hope you can have a 100% clean screen because it looks gorgeous.

I guess I see the Zelda the same way. In which Mario is just Mario and Link it just Link. Whether it's Paper Mario, 2D, M&L Mario, it's just Mario at root. So it'd be weird if he suddenly had a huge change.

Some people consider going from 2D to 3D to be huge, or Paper Mario, or Mario as an RPG rather than a platformer.

We've got a character who could be a girl in one of the games in accordance to the lore (different links each game). How would that be too big a change compared to all the other changes these game series have seen?

Unless you're just voicing a personal preference. But all the mentions of "should/shouldn't" suggest otherwise.

Is this why some people are suggesting Link is female here? These people are inexplicably being aroused by the sight of the character and desperately wish he wasn't male?

Just to clarify since people understandably don't want to get involved in any dicussion here: some people are trying to figure out whether Link is a girl in this trailer.

Another discussion is about some people saying that Link can't/shouldn't ever be a girl. Saying that doesn't really follow any concrete logic and it's nothing more than a personal preference which can't be substantiated as anything more than that

I don't understand this discussion. I'm all for a female Link, but Link has always looked feminine. When he was designed for OoT, he was meant to be a character that was more attractive to women. That usually means (at least for anime) a few feminine qualities.

People voiced a distate for androgynous looking characters and then some said Link shouldn't be a girl

Everything looks amazing apart from the fact that Link seems to be getting more androgynous with every game.

What's wrong with that?

I don't really think he looks like a girl, but if for some reason he does I can understand why someone would be upset. Link's a guy. Instead of reestablishing his character and making him into a female character, I would much, much rather they create a new IP around a female hero.

Other people recognize that saying Link has to be a guy doesn't make sense. Then the discussion happened.

The main discussion isn't really about some "Chico is Quiet" conspiracy nonsense.

Nintendo, like most other dev houses, take their previous work in technology and iterate and upgrade onto it where necessary. I mean, how much of it do you think of frostbite 3 is a completely new engine? It obviously isn't. Same on many other engines. Even when they get new names.

Guys, if you take a look at the official page for the game, all it says it "more info coming soon"

I am thinking more info will be released in the next 2 days.

I sent my wife a text with a pic of the overworld with the message, look at this piece of art. She replied, how cool! That must have taken a long time to paint. Amazing.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
People debating resolutions should consider the fact that thanks to an art style like this, the character models won't use as many polygons as photorealistic. Just take into account. Curious to hear about whether or not they're prioritizing 60fps with this like in Mario Kart or LBW.

Don't get me wrong, the E3 2014 footage isn't bad, it's just more of the same art style, Ninetendo are just playing it safe yet again which is a real shame.

Am I understanding you correctly? Nintendo is playing it safe by not just re-using the Twilight Princess art style again (as seen in the tech demo)? That frankly doesn't make sense.

Also, it's an open world game. The tech demo on ther hand took place in one single, small room. Of course you've got to make compromises when you go for a more open area, that should be obvious.

looks amazing, all you people complaining about link looking feminine and wearing an earing have no clue.
for shame gaf, and to think i actually believed people on neogaf had actually played zelda games before.
Link looks great, world looks great, style is great.

Holy shit. I'll be buying a Wii U for this. My son will be 4 and a half by then so I can't wait to introduce him to the world if Zelda with this game!

Wow. I am blown away by how that looks. I can't even remember the last time a video game has had graphics and art style that made my jaw drop like that. It's been years to say the least.
I was trying not to buy a wii-u but I don't see any way to avoid it now.

This thread has been extremely disappointing. The thought never crossed my mind that Link is now a girl, but the design is wonderful either way. Y'all are forgetting that Link has always been an pretty effeminate character. Deal with it!

You haven't provided any good reasons is what I meant. Your reasons (making link identifiable as Link, staying true to 28 years of history) don't require link to be a girl. You go on to admit that there's no good reason to be against Link being a girl. nothing you've said comprehensively shows that Link needs to be a girl. I've never said that that — or anything — was unacceptable the way you said a girl Link was unacceptable.

I don't want Link to be a girl because I don't see Link as a girl. I see Link as a character, he's male, he wears green clothes, he has a sword, he goes on adventures. I strongly believe that one of the reasons Link is so appealing to me is because he isn't your typical male video game hero. He's not incredibly buff, he's not really an alpha male, he's not hyper masculine, but he's still instantly recognizable as a male. Link is one of the few video game characters that I find somewhat relatable, and I wouldn't be okay with them swapping genders and making him into a girl.

I think the hypermasculinity in games is just as much as a problem with oversexualization of female characters. I feel like turning Link into a girl would fix one problem, but then not address the other. I would rather they keep Link a guy and create a new IP around a female whose character design is similar to Link in the sense that it's a serious design, but not sexualized like Samus has been.

I know you're not hating on it so don't get me wrong, this isn't an attack or whatever; but I truly think that while, yes, Skyward Sword felt more linear, that the further you get into the game, the more areas you open up... you know, there was still plenty of exploration. It was a different and more straightforward approach, but as I played the game more and more, I never felt confined or restrained. I thought the areas ended up being pretty big and full of secrets just like any other Zelda. It also had some of the best dungeons and puzzles in the series, and the game never felt too easy to me. I loved it. It does seem like a very divided game as I constantly see "Skyward Sword sucks" and "Skyward Sword is one of the best Zelda games out there" and I even have friends who haven't finished it for whatever reason.

I do think that the people that wrote it off or was turned off by it for whatever reason should at least see it through to completion. The art, music, dungeons, puzzles, bosses, and especially the story were fucking terrific in that game.
