but will it make it out of development hell?
I wonder if this uses Id Software new engine (Void) or still on id-tech 5.
Hm? Oo
New engine? Care to elaborate? Haven't heard anything, who is in charge of that now?
Work with our Core Technology group to create the best in class FPS engine tailored for our legendary titles
Did I hear it right? The plot is that the "demons" are failed experiments? That is uncomfortably like the movie.

not long ago Zenimax trademarked a new Engine called Void

Then we know that they were hiring engine programmers for the engine in their Core Technology group team (the team in charge of that), and it's clearly for an FPS title(s)

so yeah. Void. new Engine. for FPS legendary title.
my guess is this will be Void engine first game.
I don't know what to say really for this teaser but I'm hoping for the best.
I want the gameplay to be good of course, just like t he original doom had it. I'd love for them to learn a lot from the original game and the original map designs, Sandy Peterson and Romero were pretty much masters at it.
I'd like to see levels in the vein of this.
Original Engine stands up great doesn't it?

I imagine they are doing 30 fps right?
http://jobs.zenimax.com/requisitions/view/618id Software is looking for a Senior Engine Programmer to help define, create, and maintain significant portions of idTech - the fastest and highest fidelity engine at 60hz+ on the planet. You will join our Core Technology group where your expertise and experience will be focused primarily on the base idTech engine but you should be comfortable touching many areas of the code and may also work on tools, game code and our entire technology suite. Expect your abilities and scope of work to expand in a fast paced and highly innovative environment.
I have SERIOUS doubts they'll be able to show something as graphic as this with current day technology. We finally have the hardware to make it real, but somehow developers seem to have lost all and any interest in creating genuinely gruesome FPS.
sounded like failed interdimensional travel experiments to me
I took it to mean things like the Cyberdemon are the end results of the UAC's meddling with interdimensional portals, which is true. There was particular knowing emphasis on "unholy" in the VO, so I have no doubt that unlike the awful movie they're keeping the Hell angle.

what's that?! O_O
That would be map 9 of a doom wad (a new set of levels) called Sunder. It's for the original game on PC. A series of slaughtermaps that are difficult as hell.
The architecture though put into some of these levels are incredible.
Did I hear it right? The plot is that the "demons" are failed experiments? That is uncomfortably like the movie.
nice i stick to the retail wads. Haven't really poked around at all with any of the fan made stuff. That looks amazing though!

I still wish Nintendo would update that for the Virtual Console -- just up the resolution and framerate. That's all I would need.
Serious question: What exactly are you hyped for?
The trailer shows nothing. None of the talent from id works there anymore and the last good Doom game came out in 2004.
I'd like to see levels in the vein of this.
Original Engine stands up great doesn't it?
No. I think it's just their experiment, unrelated to the demons, opened a portal to hell. Essentially the story of the past three Dooms.
Corrected that mistake of yours. Otherwise a good post, 10/10.
Also I must be the only man on the planet who had zero problems with Tech 5 and actually like how it looks. (Use CUDA transcode for VTs, guys.)
You didn't notice the horrible texture pop-in in Rage every time you turned your head?

I had no such problem with CUDA transcode enabled. There is some pop-in but it's hardly any worse than any LOD pop-in in any open world game out there.
Actually, it's quite ok now even on CPU in Wolfenstein.
Maybe you all are playing this on consoles? id isn't exactly known for good console ports.
Yeah. The console versions had a ton of pop-in.
I feel like one super important thing they need to nail is the shotgun. Doom had an amazing shotgun, which was satisfying and meaty and reliable and everything a staple FPS gun should be.
People forget this, but the shotgun was also useful out to a fair distance. Unlike a lot of later FPS shotguns, the Doom shotgun didn't have spread like a waterhose, but had a nice tight grouping of pellets for a good long ways. This was tragically discarded in Doom 3, where the shotgun felt like it had to be fired only when an enemy got within... like, 12-15 feet. The spread on it felt like it was about 45 degrees to either side of the crosshair. Just awful. That needs to be forgotten. Doom 4's shottie needs to go back to the classic Doom model, where you could count on it for medium range encounters.
Have you played Wolfenstein TNO on PS4/XBO? I wonder if that has changed on the new generation... Technically GCN should be capable of accelerating PRTs on GPU plus 8 GBs of RAM must help with texture cache.
The Cyberdemon had stuff like "Danger" on the plating near his rocket launcher and the UAC logo on his armor. I'm afraid he might be right.
No it isn't. That picture is bullshit becauseBingo. Movement and maping were every bit as important in Doom as the shooting itself, and God knows Doom had a whole lot of shooting. Most developers still struggle with this concept, but some people understand it.

It goes on to show how deeply the genre has sunk.
No it isn't. That picture is bullshit because
1) Doom maps were not multi levelled
2) The 2nd picture "modern game" picture is a joke picture, while the first picture shows an entire map from doom. You can take any one corridor from that entire doom map and it will look like the 2nd picture.
3) It ignores the fact that games like Crysis, Deus Ex, Wolfenstein, Farcry exist. Speaking of which you didn't have games like Farcry in 1993.
