The Witcher 2 getting full combat rebalance mod with new animations and big changes

I like the changes to the skill tree but the actual combat changes feel superficial at best.

Thanks, I think I'll try it out and if the skill tree changes are decent I'll keep it. I'm also wondering if I'm better off using a controller to play as i just booted the game up and it seems that the mouse controls are a bit finicky.

That would be swell if they released witcher 2 digitally on ps4 this year to get ready for witcher 3

Choices carry over would be great

Here's a quote from an article last year saying they had no such plans. As far as I know this hasn't changed:

"We’d love to publish all Witcher games on the PlayStation but we have limited capabilities since we’re currently working on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077," Tomaszkiewicz explained. "For now, we’re not planning on porting The Witcher 1 and 2 to the PlayStation. However, don’t worry--if you’re afraid that you won’t be able to play The Witcher 3 without knowing the plot of the first two games, it’s not the case."

I'd say the only thing I don't like about this mod is that Geralt still does his stupid long ass flamboyant twisty sword swings sometimes. I die so much from that crap.

I played a few hours with this mod and I think I'm going to just do a regular play through. Sometimes enemies just stand there and do nothing until I attack them first. Also I don't like Geralt's pirouette instead of rolling ... there's no way to know what battles he's going to do it in and it always throws me off and looks kinda weird.

Also I might be wrong on this but the game seems easier ... spells seem to do more damage and same with side weapons like bombs/daggers.

They nerfed the everloving shit out of the difficulty for the console release/directors cut.

Holy shit! I'm playing this again this weekend. I played about 10 hours when it came out but didn't like the combat at all,now I'm gonna give it another go and hope these changes make a difference!

Very cool - I'm playing the first game at the moment. Nice to see I'll be able to play the "definitive" version of Witcher 2 when I decide to get around to it.

?

Are you talking about the Enhanced Edition? I've already played through it once and found it decently challenging. I was mentioning this mod makes it a lot easier.

So I uninstalled this mod using the uninstaller, and started a new game. I just finished Chapter 1 and noticed that the mod's version of the skill tree is still there and not the regular one. How do I fix this?? Fuck, I should have noticed this earlier.

edit, figure it out. The installer misses the en0.w2strings file. I deleted it and replaced it with the backup (en0.w2strings.bak) right under it and it fixed it. Apparently it only effects the skill tree descriptions, the tree was still the original so no need to start a new game.

Heads up to anyone uninstalling.

I am on chapter V of The Witcher 1, and after that I'll play The Witcher 2. Do you guys think this mod is worth it for the first and probably only playthrough?

Personally I think it's better to save it for a second playthorugh. It completely changes the skill tree, along with a lot of other game mechanics. I also ran into some bugs, but YMMV. I enjoyed the vanilla game plenty.

I'd totally pay $15 for it on 360.

This seems to improve every minor quibble I had with the game. And I still love the story, world, characters, acting. I can't guarantee anyone else would pay, but I would.

edit: Yes even after all this time.

What if there wouldn't be a second playthrough? I'm not really interested in getting the "real" experience, but the better one.

I wonder if they're gearing up for a next gen console rerelease with this. Seems like a lot of effort if they're not doing something else major with it.

This is my feeling, too. Even with as good a track record as CDP, you don't make what is essentially Enhanced Edition II without good reason.

From a guy who only played Witcher 2 for only 20 minutes, does the mod actually makes combat more enjoyable?

It's more fun at least. It feels a bit more action-ey to me. I died a lot during vanilla combat, so this change is very welcomed. It removes a lot of the frustration. Use a 360 / One controller and you'll have no trouble at all.

I've played the prologue until the noon of the day of the attack modless. I'll try again this mod in a new game, and if I don't like it I'll unistall and play my first save.

I'm in the florest now and I'm liking the mod. Problem is, I just noticed a game breaking bug. I can't distribute my skills for some reason, and I'm already at level 5 :(

From memory I don't think this is a bug but the difficulty level you are playing on.

I believe you will need to meditate and select the character option. I think this is where you can allocate your skill points.

I'm guessing the mod won't be compatible with pre-existing saves? Damn, just got to Vergen.
The notes make it look like starting over would be worth it though.

You have to allocate six points into the "training" tree before you can unlock the other three.

Actually with this MOD the training skills were already learned from the beginning. I didn't know so I was trying to learn them again.

Just purchased the first two games in the Steam sale based on how awesome 3 looks. I'll load this before I start. Fantastic developer to continue supporting a game that old in such a big way.

Question... what videocard is needed for 1080p60fps at max settings for Witcher 2? With a i3 processor.

With ubersampling and cinematic DOF disabled, you'll achieve a locked 60fps with a R9 280X. With the cinematic DOF turned on your framerate will drop to 40s during cut-scenes and dialogue sequences. I don't think it's worth it.

Dunno about your CPU though.

This mod doesn't do any miracles, it merely enhances the combat system and makes it a bit more dynamic. Just keep your expectations in check

So I finally decided to get the game in anticipation of the Witcher 3 (I still have plenty of time until then)

As many of you, I have very little free time to play, so I don't want to spend most of my time replaying sections, cutscenes, or enduring few checkpoints or the like.
I don't want to have an auto-win either, just good enough difficulty, I don't want a challenge from a (supposedly ) long game.

So, does this mod make things harder? easier? And what difficulty would be good? Is normal balanced enough? Or are enemies a hit-sponge?

I've read from some of you that the combat drags too long and that it is boring, so I wonder if an easier difficulty is just too easy?

Thanks for the advice!

I'm playing in normal with this mod and for the first time. I think the game is really well balancead this way. You won't die every two seconds, but you will die a lot if you don't prepare or marsh buttons.

This looks awesome, maybe I'll try the game out again tonight when I'm home. I didn't know this mod existed when I got the game a few months ago.

I've played the game for 30+ hours for the first time ever using this mod. Now that I already have a good grips of what the game feels like with this I decided to remove it and try play vanilla.

My god, using the mod feels so much better that it is not even funny. I was thinking about playing my next playthrough without it, but I don't think I can do it now that I know how good this mod is.

It seems I can't get the kayran diagram in act 1 with this mod installed? I beat the beast and didn't earn it from the reward guy, nor can I boy it from the blacksmith.

It's too bad, because this is my second playthrough. I din't get the achievement the first time around and I was hoping to get it now...

What diagram? You mean for the armor? Yeah, not sure about that one, but they shifted around a lot of equipment for balance purposes. Many things were either moved to other vendors or removed entirely.

Yes, the diagram for the armor. I'll keep playing and pay atention to all the vendors from now on. That armor doesn't even sound that good, but I want to get the achievement.

So I implemented this mod in the middle of Act 1 play-through. My level-up bar in the HUD is borked, access to the character trees is locked and I can't defend with my sword anymore (he only does the quen thing). What the fuck?

The Quen thing is part of the mod, Geralt does it instead of blocking. Other two sound like issues however.

I disabled it and gained like three levels. This mod is getting disabled, I was fine with the way the game was anyway.

You only get access to the character trees after reaching level 6. The first tree is already auto unlocked with this mod.

The mod was borked for me, I wasn't gaining levels, and the trees were locked despite being level 8 or something.

I think it has borked the entire game for me, even when disabled. The game is now locking up, getting random blank screens, and the upgrades only have one level. :|

Screw you modder/CDPR designer!
