That doesn't look quite hot considering they're charging $60 for this once again. Oh well.

You're the annoying Nintendo fan I see posts from time to time. Always praising Nintendo but bashing many non Nintendo things. Annoying.

And at least get the facts right on the price if you want to partake in the discussion.

Some background details and the vines on the walls look pretty bad. AA quality is quite inconsistent. Nothing less compression would solve.

tbh this thread is great. I have a feeling so much crow is going to be served up once photomode is unleashed.

I've looked at these screens over and over and I just can't see how anyone can not think it looks great.

I also think people are going to be surprised how good it looks in motion on their HDTV. I find screenshots and video (Yes, even Gamersyde) never do it justice.

These screenshots don't look very attractive, but it's a case like inFamous, I'm imagining, where I'm basically thinking how bleh the screenshots looked but then in-game the game looks effing amazing.
Regardless, I'm still getting this so I can play the multiplayer with my buddies on party chat instead of randoms on PS3.
wut. I mean, I could link you a hundred screenshots from Infamous:SS, but just look at this.

This is bleh?

I somehow agree with both discussion parties in this topic.

On one hand the PS3 version looked already unbelievable and close to Nexgen but also the PS4 is another huge step forward looking even better than the PS3 version. If someone doesn't see the increased textures and sharpness (due to 1080p) I recommend to consult an eye specialist or stop trolling.

On the other hand I do understand that some people claim the full price, which is especially for PS3 owners a hit in their face. And to offer no upgrade model is a bad move from Sony, considering the loyalty of the gamers. But also for new Playstation owners who have not owned a PS3 or at least TLOU (PS3) it doesn't justifies full pricing, because it's no new game and "just" revamped.

Just my 2 cents and have a good start into the week, guys!

Something something IT'S NOT FULL PRICE something something OUTRAGE.

I do wish there was an upgrade for PS3 owners to get it for ten bucks less ($40 USD), but that's a bit too idealistic for a next-gen port made by a first party studio, a upgrade that comes out a year later no less. It's not like multi-platform launch titles that initially planned to come out for both.

You guys should realize those screens are 200kb, a 1080p JPG should be about 1-2.5mb
png/bmp is the best for screenshots

Eh. A 100% quality JPG is inditinguishable from a PNG. And BMPs are absolutely terrible. They're seriously bloated in size and offer no advantages over PNG\JPG.

Just look at all the lovely detail and 0 compression in these JPGs:

I'm referring to the compressed share screenshots, not direct capture.

Still looks pretty far from bleh in those too IMHO, especially when you compare it to other competing next-gen early titles. Pretty much blows the pants off the competition regardless.

Then I have to apologize! I obviously completely lost the context. ^
It happens. I honestly think TLOU PS4 looks phenomenal for a port. I just assumed we'd get an up-res and nothing else... looks like they used better textures and lighting, which is a welcome addition. Makes the world feel more alive

TBH, that's always kind of the case with share feature screens. Anytime I see the screens I've made of Trine 2, KZ:SF and Infamous, they always look somehow crappy compared to what the actual game looked like when I played it. JPG puts them through a blur filter, and even worse it looks like the colours are always sightly messed up / washed out compared to the actual game play. 200K JPG quality is just not enough for this resolution.

It makes you wonder if Sony is happy with this less than accurate image sharing solution as it seem a bad promotional tool too.

2 things I disagree with in your post.

First, why should they offer an upgrade model? The game is over a year old. They offered upgrades for games like AC IV and COD just because the new consoles were releasing a month later. What reason do you have to justify that you need an upgrade for a purchase you made a year ago?

Second, justify what full pricing? You're getting better textures and everything else WITH all the DLC included for a measly $50. The ps3 version right now on amazon still goes for $30 and at gamestop $40. The left behind DLC is $15 added unless you spent what? Over $20 for the season pass? You've basically passed the $50 price point for the ps4.

The price is fine.

Just bought Metro Last Light Redux using 50% discount because I own regular edition released 1 year ago and just bought Metro 2033 Redux using 50% discount because I own regular edition released 4 years ago.

Ok? that doesn't mean everyone has to offer discounts. Were there discounts for shadow of the colossus on the ps3 just because you had it on ps2? Or MGS3 just because you had it on ps2? People are only talking about upgrades just because they did it with the releases last october.

Didn't they release MGS3 twice on ps2? I want my money!

Companies have the right to not offer discounts at their discretion.

Buyers have the right to demand best purchase options they've seen in other companies.

You ask "why do they have to do discounts"? The answer is, "why not if others can do it"?

I understand that a company does not want to. But I don't understand that you have to defend it.

I see, I don't really mean to defend it. Maybe I should have worded myself better. I would like an upgrade, yes. Should I expect it just because they did it to games right before release of the new consoles? No. If it were more common I would understand but it's only happened in october due to the new consoles. People are talking about it as if they deserve to get one just because they bought a game for a last gen console.

Yep, and I bought it twice and loved the multiplayer :p

Screenies look pretty good and if a random streamer has it surely we'll start seeing decent quality footage sooner rather than later.

To be fair when SotC released on PS3 it was bundled with ICO and was $39.99.

And that's not even touching on the fact that SotC should really hold an even more substantive place in the annals of console gaming history than tLoU. SotC was (and is) a pretty unique gaming experience rather than a[n admittedly fantastic] refinement of what has come before.

Or MGS3 just because you had it on ps2?

Wasn't this only released on PS3 in an HD collection including Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker?

Those Metro discounts are so sweet. Great job Steam/Deep Silver/4A or whoever came up with the idea.

I personally think regardless of any consumer led views it potentially makes really good business sense to offer an upgrade path for original owners. In the case of tLoU, a retail disc at $50 for new owners is undeniably a great deal, it's also probably a pretty good deal for people who straight up love this game and/or still play the MP but for the more casual tLoU fans I could totally understand if they don't see much value in the enhancements.

At any normal time in a console generation I personally suspect that the revenue gained from people who would be eligible for a discount and happy to buy at a discounted price but not at full retail would out-weigh the revenue lost from the people eligible for a discount who will still buy it at full price if no upgrade path is offered.

That said given the current perception amongst many of a lack of mainstream friendly AAA games on the new consoles I wouldn't be surprised if normal logic goes out of the window until the autumn and Sony may well have made the right choice, from their perspective at least.

Great... photo mode. That's what we need, another way to make games much better than they actually do.

The idea here is to take a proper, uncompressed screenshot. Photo Mode makes over hyped bullshots look honest.

The photomode is apparently just like the one in inFamous, in which case they aren't bullshots. They're exactly what the game looks like in terms of IQ.

The only other way you can take uncompressed, direct-feed screenshot is using external capture device. The built-in share function compresses it heavily even if you send it to USB instead of facebook. I think you're confusing the photomode in ISS with one in GT6, Infamous does look that pretty.

What? How does it produce bullshots? Try out the I:SS photo mode, which this seems to be similar to:

Except the Photo Mode in InFAMOUS (and I think TLoU) doesn't do any pre-rendering, and uses the in-game engine in a customisable way for the user to then use the Share button. Gran Turismo 5/6 uses a pre-rendered Photo Mode but no-one passes them off as gameplay, so I don't see why it would be an issue.
