Yeah that seems to be the consensus going by this thread. I mean I understand the apprehension, but still it's extremely likely these wont be anything more than background characters.

I will admit though, that some of them clash with the traditional sonic designs.

I don't have a lot of hope. The videos we've seen haven't set a very good impression and I fully expect the entire game to play like a dull PS2 beat-em-up, like how the E3 demo looks. Could turn out better, but I don't think it looks appealing as a Sonic game. The Werehog hardly went down well.

Sally isn't exposed. She's wearing a blue vest and blue boots.
It's just a design choice.
Just like Mickey Mouse not wearing a top and Donald Duck not wearing pants.

As for those SatAM designs, those characters have hung around in some form for 20+ years. I doubt these Sonic Boom equivalents make 3.

For Sega's sake, whatever that's worth, I hope Sonic Boom is a brilliant show. I have no hope for either of those games but I really want another Sonic TV show that's good and tells an interesting story.

Tbh these new designs don't even mesh with eachother half the time.

I like a lot of them individually, perhaps to star in old cartoons....but I welcome the change of...style from what we were shown previously.

That turtle looks like the one on Kung Fu Panda, some of those designs are very bad like ones you could find on ANY saturday morning cartoon, but some are fine, i guess.
Even the cartoon and cutscenes from the game look bad to me,even Sonic has been more annoying recently

Wow, I get this game doesn't look that great but jeez, there is way to much hate here XD!

What I think is that these NPC characters are going to be the ones giving Sonic and Company quests to collect 'major object x' ala the Precursor Orbs from Jak 1 (where you got a few side missions to complete in levels/have to collect x amount of things to give to the quest giver to get the orb).

I think the designs look nice :D; they fit this new world well and remind me of the designs from Jak 1 and Ratchet and Clank a bit :).

While my hype for the game is.....more or less gone, I won't completely write off everything about it :l. I say lets wait till this comes out and we get the chance to really play it before ripping BigRedButton's and Sega's head off XD!

Hey now, Scourge The Hedgehog is the Evil Sonic from the Evil Dimension. That is not half as bad as Zonic The Zone Cop who is the Perpendicular Sonic from the Perpendicular Dimension.

Sonic Team trolling at its finest here. They have taken every negative thing ever said about Sonic games over the past 15 years and LITERALLY used it as a basis for a game. They got some balls, I'll give them that... They are going to be absolutely slaughtered for this, especially after how 'cool' it became to hate Sonic 06. I can hear reviewers sharpening their knives with every bit of info that comes out about this game..

Except they don't care because they are catering to kids and their hardcore audience who eat this shit up.

Another thing Sonic needs is to attempt a character centric SatAM/ Archie game once and for all.

Yeah rigght, like Sega has anything beyond apathy or contempt for that universe. If they really wanted a westernized Sonic branch, why even create Sonic Boom & not just push the existing product?

It sucks because I want America's take on Sonic to be successful, but so far it seems like such shit.

Why couldn't they have gotten the crack in the 90s, making a Sonic SatAM game. Why.

I feel like the best way to describe some of these guys is "Hanna Barbara as fuck." Especially the fancy rat guy.

Granted, I'm not particularly a fan of any of these designs, but unless this show/game reaches Sonic Underground/Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog-tier levels of unintentional bad (Although props to Robotnik's voice actor in the latter; he's still the Robotnik/Eggman voice to me.), it's really got nothing to offer me. Just so long as it stays its own side-series and the real games stick to being good instead of reverting, I'm cool with it.

Im as a critical of sonic and what has been happening to him since adventure as the next guy but I actually think all this NPCs are a good step in to the right direction, at least in what the cartoon matters.
No humans whatsoever, animal town, less edgy and robotnik making chaos.

In fact I think this character designs shit on every character design that sonic team made from original amy on forward, and they are secondary for gods sake.

Its too bad that the game doesnt look that good.

AOSTH is so god damn stupid I love it.

These Sonic Boom characters actually look pretty nice to me, but at the same time they don't look overally Sonic-y, which would make sense for this semi-reboot if the Sonic regulars didn't have their same 'monoeye' faces still going on. Just seems like even with the character redesigns they'll visually clash a lot, which is a pretty big problem if this is meant to be it's own spin-off franchise.

Again, I say it looked great. When I first saw footage of it years ago, I was like, why didn't this get made?

I guess that's why I'm excited about Rise Of Lyric; it's the closest we'll ever get to that.
