pip pip cheerio you slags!
Might end up doing 30 for SP and 60 for MP. Hell, as long is the 30 is rock solid (which it totally wasn't in PS3 version) then it's already gonna be a huge improvement.
Yup.
If they want to get a PS4 game looking anywhere close to that trailer in real time, they're going to go 30fps. Bookmark this post bros. Bookmark it hard.
Ok, Bro Namath. Saved.
is the ps4 not powerful enough to do 60fps and better shadows? wtf

I don't think 60fps is essential to the experience. Even solid 30fps at 1080p would be a huge step up from the PS3 version and the shadows would be icing on the cake.
30fps for me.
This seems kind of obvious. If the graphical fidelity was the same, there would be little point to the 30fps option.

as its been stated several times, the 60fps mode still has better shadows than the PS3 version. the 30fps mode simply has even better shadows
And y'all still keep insisting on 60fps. I want max fidelity, so I'm going with 30fps.
is the ps4 not powerful enough to have 60fps and achieve the shadows in 30fps mode?
I also remember when John Carmack was saying if you take a ps3/360 game and up the resolution 1080p and make it run at 60fps you already are using most of the power of the new consoles. Seems like he was right, they took upped the IQ and added / refined some effects and they quickly reached the power budget.
Has a console game ever given a choice like that to switch between 30/60? That's pretty novel, a good way to satisfy everyone. Good learning experience for ND getting used to PS4 too.
Oh my God...
I am a little surprised why those high quality shadows cant be done at 60fps on the PS4

I actually don't like the choice when its a tradeoff like this. 30fps being exactly like the 60fps makes sense as a preference, but 30fps w/ better visuals and 60fps with less is problematic because one of the things I love best about console gaming is that what you see is what you get. Outside of magazine bullshots, gameplay footage is gameplay footage and it'll be the same on your TV at home.Has a console game ever given a choice like that to switch between 30/60? If more games choose this route they'll only market the 30fps version and you'll lose the whole wysiwyg simplicity of consoles.
In the case of TLOU at this point I'd just prefer they locked the damn thing to 60fps and be done with it.
Shadows are one of the first options I turn down on PC if I have to, those extra soft lines just blur anyway if you're running at low frames.

I'm not an expert, but:
Since the screen's refresh rate is evenly divisible by 30, the same should be true at 30 fps.
And judder is an effect caused by frametime fluctuations, regardless of whether the average frame rate stays the same. So even if your premise of 'in sync with refresh rate' were correct, I would have thought that that argument better would have better applied to changes in average frame rate than to judder specifically.
Not always the case with console games, often promotional screens or footage is from superior versions or PC. There's many instances of this. Options are always a good thing, and as long as everyone is given the same options its not a big deal.
Well, this pic was taken using the unpatched version:
Really, how much better shadows could look than this? Unless they upped the shadow quality here since not a lot of geometry and so on. But I guess not.
If that's how it's going to look, 30 FPS shouldn't be that much better I believe.
Promo footage of the PC version while described as console footage, or inferring its console footage (by not saying its PC and running it with a controller during a console conference) are just as problematic and lead to false expectations and disappointment with downgrades, and is just plain deceptive. Not always the case with console games, often promotional screens or footage is from superior versions or PC.
