Destiny: Only one area per planet

Well thats just you. I put maybe 30 hours into Borderlands 2 but i quit playing ti because the gameplay was boring the Co-op was crap with shared loot and dupers. I see myself putting more then 90 hours on the strikes alone but thats just me.

Then buy Destiny on day one and enjoy it!

I wasn't sold on the game before or after the Beta and given my time constraints I've decided to hold off on my purchase for a lower price point. People can do what they want.

I think the way Bungie splintered the servers is very clever and they can add or modify stuff very easily. So I am guessing at least 3 years of content

I think Bungie should adopt the Guild Wars model and add more content with some minor vanity DLC and expansion packs.

I think the game is going to be worth the price tag but definitely is not the epic adventure they promised where your grandsons will continue your game file like they were implying long ago.

What? No wonder this thread exists.

I truly didn't expect that. Considering how much they talked about the size of this game ... yeah that is disappointing.

Was really hoping for multiple explore areas on each planet.

The game has a solid shooter foundation, the most fun I've had just killing enemies in a long time.

But the missions got repetitive ... since they were all the same thing over and over again. The side-missions were pretty pointless in the grand scheme of things ( due to no vanguard rewards pretty much ) and you could get from one end of old russia to the other in maybe 4-5 minutes. We'll see how much space is created by being able to actually go into the areas with the ??? enemies.

I am not really worried about longevity though. I mean I played a freakin beta for 25-30 hours lol. All the gear looks awesome and can't wait to dive into the skill trees and subclasses and really go nuts with the weapon / armor mods and all that. I mean the game will have a ton of replay value and everything. But man ... that is disappointing to only have 1 area in each map.

I don't really see any problem. I've spend 15-20 hours in the beta so far, most of it on the Old Russia map. There are still some areas off limit atm, so we don't really know the definite size of the map, and if we get 5 planets of roughly this size it's big enough for me. Add replayable raids en crucible and other MP events, and this game is going to keep me entertained for quite some time.
Yeah I ran into a bunch of ?? Characters in old Russia. Plus there was a whole area blocked by some of the ?? Characters. Also I didn't do all of the small instances that seem to be scattered all over the place.

Expected this even though earlier on they stated that we would be able to explore the mounts off in the distance and all that blah. Still I'm actually more disappointed there was no low gravity on the moon causing grenades and other projectiles to perform differently and the players and enemies movement to change up so gameplay would feel drastically different on the moon.

I wasn't as hyped as many people on gaf, but after playing the beta I almost pre-order the game. But after reading this, I will wait for reviews and/or gameplay of the full game.

While Bungie may have blurred the lines between their goals of Destiny the franchise and Destiny the game at times, anybody who was expecting more have their own expectations to blame.

Yeah well space magic. Official line is The Traveler did it.

glad i get to play this for free otherwise id skip it
seems like it lacks on the content department

What games are you playing?? That makes Destiny lack on content??

Being disappointed by marketing at e3 vs the real thing I can understand but vs. Other games?! I just don't see it.

The premise suggests a vast wilderness of space that begs to be explored. Only a few planets is very very disappointing.

Shit, that would have been great. What a weird opportunity to miss.

I'm really disappointed... And why did they pick Russia ?

What's wrong with Russia?

Did you explore all of Russia?

Did you see the areas there were that we couldn't explore because they were blocked by level 20 enemies?

Did you see the multiple areas that were obviously intended to be opened further because the screen updates with a new area prompt?

Did you core under the moon and notice how expansive the area is, and just how many extra areas there were to be opened up there?

There is no reason to be disappointed, this game is going to have plenty of pve content.

People are making a fuss over nothing.

Shit, that would have been great. What a weird opportunity to miss.

Sounds like it would have been incredibly tedious for an entire area to be in low gravity.

Put more time into the alpha/beta than any other game this year. And that was within one planet and Crucible.

Game has a fucking gigantic amount of content compared against nearly every other full priced game, let alone shooters.

This along with the fact that so many guns all look and sound the same with varying damage output disappoints me to no end. This is looking to be just a co op game like Borderlands with comparable or even less content with random people joining in now and then who you cannot communicate to at all.

MMO, exploration, go whereever you can see my ass !

TBF in terms of mmo's and content times have changed. You can easily put in hundreds of hours in a f2p mmo without spending a cent. So people look to console games for quality and I guess console mmo's for quality and quantity. Probably not fair but it is what it is.

Well, i just hope the other areas will be more interesting than Russia, empty and ugly as hell imo

Also, they promised so much with this game that the disappointment is pretty much normal, i was expecting something huge, and i mean HUGE

I will but thats not what we are discussing here. People are saying this game lack content and im saying it does not.

Agreed 100%, and I think a lot of this is drawn from their vision which obviously includes DLC/Expansions down the line, people mistaking Bungie's overall vision of Destiny for the initial game.

Myself, I'm happy with one zone per planet, Strikes, Raid and no doubt countless hours in The Crucible's many modes.

Colour me content as a Kangaroo on Kiwifruit day.

I'm ok with this right now, old russia had at least 4 areas for high tier characters we were unable to visit or get through without being killed easily, and the moon area in the beta was much bigger in size where you really needed to use the sparrow to travel around.

I played PSO for years and that only had 4 areas and a city hub, the levels were random but it still gave me tons of entertainment and enjoyment, Destiny for me feels the same way.

If I had to guess some of these areas like Chicago and such will be in the DLC packs.

Did you even read my edit?

I put 90 hours into BL2. I don't see the same happening with Destiny is all this is true.

To each his own, I guess. Personally as someone who also put 90+ hours of game time into BL2 (and loved it), just based off the beta Destiny seems like a much more promising game in terms of fun and content. Mainly because of PvP, the strikes, and the fact that I want to actually explore areas not for rewards, but just for the sake of exploring.

The only thing I really wish Destiny took from BL2 is to scatter some NPCs and questgivers to find out in the areas. Some more variety in the weapons would've been nice too.

Whenever people say this I feel like you have to ask yourself whether you put those hours in because of the small time window as a result of it being a beta or because your actually enjoyed the game and can see yourself doing that with a full, much larger retail game over a longer time period.

People being overly defensive about this by saying they played the alpha/beta xx amount of hours needs to read this post. It perfectly showcases why using hours played in a game as a measuring stick for content is a bad idea.

People might have gotten 20, 30, or 100 hours out of the Destiny beta, but that's not a valid argument to use for saying others are wrong. Because others might only have gotten 3,6 or 10 hours out of it.

Not sure if I can be arsed doing Old Russia missions again and the moon mission was pretty crappy and short :(

Don't know if I should keep my limited edition one, go back to the standard one, or just cancel it altogether, it's not like there aren't plenty of games coming out soon.

Watching that video.. it's just soo.. BS.

Haha yeah that's some hot bullshit. Don't know why game developers are so inclined to promise "See those mountains? You can go there!". Todd Howard or whoever started quite the nasty trend.

I don't hold it against them though. The map has to end somewhere.

Also we definitely have not seen all of old Russia and Earth yet. From the E3 trailer there were cut scenes from Earth we haven't seen as well.

That "one area" represent 25% of the areas in the game apparently, that's not just a tutorial area even if you say it is

The tutorial part was the part between getting resurected and getting back to the tower.

Please god, tell me you don't actually believe this.

This thread is crazy.

I have played around 50 hours in the alpha and the beta and I did that because I enjoyed the FUCK out of it. Playing with my friends. Finding golden chests on our own. Upgrading all my armor buying a new ship. Leveling all three classes to 8. Iron banner, crucible and strike missions.

Loved every minute. Yesterday I spent two hours exploring the moon.

My time with the game has nothing to do with the fact that the beta is going to end.

I think the length would be more tolerable if the game was more than just MMO-like quests. Extremely simple and dull. Kind of like Spartan Ops in that regard, if we're going to pull from other shooters.

Of course it's valid. If someone spent X hours and enjoyed them all, and can compare it to experience Y in terms of value, then it's valid.

It's not just about pure hours spent obviously. That shouldn't even need to be explained.

I agree with you completely, it is also wrong to say just beacuse this game has 5 zones it lacks content it all depends on how much there is to do and how you as a person prefer to spend your time.

So Old Russia is earth? Ugh fucking boring man, I'm sick of that place already.

One area per planet wtf... that just sucks BIGTIME.

This has come up a few times. Please share what games you are going to pay full price for this fall that is worth bringing up in a thread about lack of content.

I am not canceling anything, I am ready for this game, I don't care if they release a thousand dlc's, I want it all and will buy it all. Maybe Activision has them on that year to Year plan. Or maybe you buy the game and then all the expansions, regardless, I'm still getting this.
