It doesn't enhance the processing (AA, filtering) or assets (lighting, textures, models). It's all done in-engine and is just like if you took a capture from a video card. If you consider the filters "enhancements" then they're done in-engine too.

I really love the DoF + film grain shots. Work really well together.
Wish ND would apply some extra AA and post processing for the moment the screenshot is grabbed, environment could use it sometimes.

I wish ND would patch in the option to have film grain applied throughout the whole game.

Loved having it turned on in Mass Effect 1 & 2, I was upset when they did away with it on ME3.
