Rumor: MS cuts the XO price to 349,99€

Getting closer to that $300 sweet spot for second console in my game room status.

and $30 a month to play online? I just don't see the mass market going with both consoles, I mean that is half the price of a new game every month. The real problem I see though is Playstation 4 can match XB1 price wherever it goes, as the PS4 is simply cheaper to make.

The unbundling was pretty much an official price cut, at least from the consumer perspective. If they go from "XBox ONE - $499", to "Buy an XBox ONE, get Titanfall", to "XBox ONE - starting at $399", to "XBox ONE - Now starting at $349" - all within the scope of a year.. that paints a very sad narrative.

But the consumer is aware that the lower price bundle does not include kinect. They can even see the kinect bundles in store next to the solus bundles. As undesirable as kinect is to some folks, I think you're discrediting the ability of the average person (especially those who would buy a pricey gaming console) to realize what's included in the box.

Yup. Sony absolutely nailed the timing of requiring ps plus for online. Introduce the charge when you have the hottest product and people will think twice about picking up another console that requires a sub for online.

If true, I'll definitely buy one of the £199 XB1 + Halo 5 & Collection bundles that will be on the shelves at the end of next year. Unless there's a dramatic - and frankly unprecedented - improvement in sales worldwide, there is essentially no chance that will still be above £200 / $300 by late 2015.

Hmm even if you're talking about both subscriptions that would be $110 a year if you buy at MSRP [which many people never do], that would be ~ $9 a month

You can just visit the website on your phone and see for yourself, you know. It's not a fake and it's still there.

It would also be the weirdest typo ever. However, we need to know if the price has been changed recently or if it said 349€ for a longer time already. In any case, gamescom is next week and MS teased exciting announcements...
Not worth the effort figuring out exactly how they set up their regions for various sites, especially considering when I originally read it I figured it was one of those "leaks" that pop up and are adjusted without them saying a word.

I think it'd be weirder if it was true. I mean, if their "exciting" announcements are just more price cuts, then they might as well be telling everyone that they're desperate. I can't see it. They wouldn't risk the potential PR by announcing it within a few months of the last one going live.

How low can you go~? How low can you go~?

I wished they brought over these sort of deals and price cuts to my country. Also has there been another console that's been met with this swift of a price cut?

Crazy, especially as it is still in pre-order in some shit-tier countries (launches next september) and at least over here MS has done a deal with retailers to have a 20€ x 20 months financing plan in place that people can already sign up for. Wonder what will come of it.

I imagine the reason we haven't seen further Wii U price cuts is because of Nintendo's experience price cutting gamecube and where that led them

MS seems to subscribe to a different strategy or at least I think they do

Their box is simply undesirable, the price is not the main issue.
It's a weaker ps4 with a weaker first party output.

In europe, the land that bought ps3s at crazy prices, and mainly helped to close the huge userbase gap with the NA, a price cut would be really losing money for nothing for MS.

They should focus on recovering in NA.

Isnt this the price the ps4 is mainlan europe, when something is selling well you dont need multi price cuts and sku changes like xbox here.

I know, I'd just like to see a price war for my own sake :) cheaper consoles are nice, and I don't feel any of them are quite worth the asking price just yet

dat bloodborne and scalebound in 2015 though

Original Xbox price for Europe went much faster. From € 469 to € 299 in under two months iirc.

wat? 30 bucks a month? Where do you get that from?

When did $50 per year plus $60 per year become $30 per month ($360 per year).

On topic, good news for Europeans who want an Xbox. I don't think there are many of them and I also don't see Sony reacting to this price cut. There just isn't any need. I also don't see MS extending it to the UK or Ireland because they aren't in the dumps here and taking the price down to £299 here would weigh down on margins too heavily. Xbox still needs to prove it can make money to the corporate heads on the board.

If this is true then i think its too late it already has the smell about it, no console will have seen so many cuts to the price in such a short period of time.

Well to be fair, this is the first real price cut, before was just bundling of games and unbundling of kinect...

Early adopters should really get some kind of ambassador program now though...
Why? You always take the personal risk of missing price cuts and special offers.

I bought the system at launch for 499€ and I don't feel offended at all since I've got hundreds of hours of entertainment for my money.

If I was a potential xb1 buyer, and MS cut the price to €349, I'd just wait it out until spring. That fucker is going to be free with a box of cereal at this rate. MS need to compete, but they also need to avoid having 'fire sale' associated with their machine - you can be too cheap, too quickly and people will avoid buying your stuff because of it.

I think €349 is ok, but if they go €299 by Easter next year, then that starts to smell bad IMO.

I also think Sony can weather a €50 price difference. At least through to the end of the year in Europe. They are selling well, and can absorb being 'premium' priced. If MS cut to €299, Sony would have to respond, but €50 should be ok.

Yeah, I have been saying since the Kinectless price "drop" was announced that it undermines their ability to make further price adjustments. If there is going to be a new price every few months it just reaks of failure and encourages people to wait for real close out pricing on the horizon.

Yeah. I think I pounced after the second price cut. Got a GameCube the same day and replaced my broken ps2 the day before. It was good having so much money to burn back then.

I believe it may be a mistake.

The reason is that 349 is the price in pounds. So probably the one that made the spanish page (who is probably the same that made the British one) simply swapped the pounds with euros, but forgot to swap the 4 with a 9.

I'm pretty sure microsoft knows that dropping the price now would make those that just bought the kinectless version 2 months ago very, very angry,

Because I'm an early adopter and I like free stuff ;) But I agree I got my money's worth, still I want more free stuff!

Lol, that's some error. That's more far fetched than the actual price dropping.

Thinking about it again, if we are getting an Xbox One bundle with 2 games at €399, then €350 is more than expected for a standalone SKU. I mean you can potentially get it for less than that by just reselling the bundled games.

That's just weird. How on earth could an error like this have anything to do with a price cut. Even if they were trying to hide it while they were changing it, it still would have the picture link in the source.

I think that anybody who actually inquires about buying a ONE will quickly realize the difference. But from a consumer perspective, somebody who's just absorbing the advertising message - you have two messages. The ONE, which is advertising itself as a progressively cheaper option - and the PS4, which has maintained value.

No idea, just bad timing I guess.

It was almost firesale like in the uk before the sku change, places were out doing each other with the crazy offers. It hit as low as £320 for the titanfall bundle.

I'd say they are already losing money on the console with the kinect blunders but going even lower makes things worse.

we'll see. I think it's easier tho forget swapping a number for a template than to put the right price (assuming it's right) only on one page of the many european ones.

They should focus on recovering in NA.

The problem is that while 360 sales were mostly in the US and UK they were not entirely in those regions.

Of the 84M WW or so 360 sales it's something like

US: 41.5M -> 49.5%
UK: 8.8M -> 10.5%

That still leaves ~40% , or 34M 360 sales in regions other than the US and the UK

If you look at the German sales

PS3/360 Ratio is around 63% PS3 | 37% 360
PS4/XB1 Ratio is around 76% PS4 | 24% XB1

So its clear Xbox is losing ground in Europe relative to last gen and it's also clear that MS wanted to at the very least maintain their marketshare however much smaller it was than playstation

So I can see why MS might be keen on trying to stop the bleeding of their marketshare even in countries where they historically don't perform as well as the competition

Still not interested in getting one.

Son has a 360 and he doesn't want one either.

Its a mindset they are fighting not a price range.
