Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition Coming to XBO/PS4 on 10/14/14

Is this just a re-release with the HD Texture pack that was free DLC on the PC version?

Not if Definitive Edition means what it meant for Tomb Raider. Tomb raider DE has exclusive redone Lara, improved TressFX, and redone effects and lighting in various parts of the island.

I couldn't remember what the situation was re: Tomb Raider's definitive edition and a PC release, so I did a very quick Google search and found these January articles. This one from GameSpot seems to state that it was never planned:

"Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was designed and rebuilt from the ground up for next-generation consoles. At this time a PC update is not planned," the company said.

Crystal Dynamics producer Scott Amos said last month that the studio was open to the idea of bringing the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition to PC "if it makes sense."

To my knowledge, I don't recall anybody mentioning that there was on released.

That being the case, I honestly can't imagine picking up this game again. The first time around was fantastic, but I don't think my interest could hold for another go-about.

I enjoyed this game enough to get the platinum (got it through PS+), but this "definitive edition" is completely unnecessary.

I'd rather they work on a new-gen sequel.

Already played it on PC but for anyone who skipped it should certainly get this.

However why release this in October when the month is still packed with games ?

Kiddo, they are working on the sequel. Remasters are generally by separate studios.

How did I miss this?

Got this with GWG, it was pretty good. Maybe I'll get it in 2015, as this year is still big with games, and because $60 is a bit much for this, even with DLC.

I wonder if all these "definitive editions" are coming out because no one had any major software ready for the new gen and just wanted to put something out.

I think it's more to do with studios are still learning the new hardware and building engines for them. Next year it's looking like we'll be getting the games we've been waiting for.

Why do people act like the redone Lara is a good thing? She looks like complete shit in the DE.

This game has more than $60 worth of DLC. So this is a pretty good value if you don't have a gaming PC and don't plan on getting one. I own this on PC. It would cost me over $40 to get what I'm missing.

I've held off on playing this because I don't want to play it unless I own everything. I'm thinking it might be more worth it to just buy this instead.

You know, I think at this point they should just omit the words "definitive" from these ports. I wouldn't add anything else to them. No "HD" either because the former version was obviously HD.

Lmao why are you still using that excuse? The hardware in the current gen consoles are hardly new nor exotic.

and excuse? You still have to build new engines in order to make new games. That takes time.

I'm sure Corrine Yu of ND is still learning how to get the most out of the hardware

Is there any exclusive DLC they are going to omit?

I don't recall if this game had platform exclusive DLC.

I guarantee you games will look better 5 years from now than they do today on PS4/Xbox One, despite how simple the hardware is.

It's obvious why all these remasters are coming at the beginning of this generation rather than the middle like last gen. If these companies waited too long to port these games, then they wouldn't be able to charge a premium price.

Collections like MGS:HD, Silent Hill, SOTC/ICO, Jak, Ratchet, Sly, etc. were a great value, and they had no choice but to be. Otherwise, you had stuff like Tekken 5 HD, Okami HD, Wipeout HD, and the like which were not part of a collection and were priced accordingly.

By the end of this generation, even $40 for something like Sleeping Dogs will seem like a joke, just as charging $40 for just MGS3 or just ICO or just Silent Hill 2 in 2012 would be. This will will bomb anyway (October is way too crowded), but at least it won't be an embarrassment.

Microsoft is doing it right, and they'll sell gangbusters as a result. Halo 4 by itself? lol

You can probably already find Tomb Raider: DE for less than $40, especially if you buy used. I don't see this being $60 for any longer than a few months, so I see no reason to complain about the price.

It's not a complaint. It's an observation.

I gladly spent $50 on TLOU:R. I'm just noting that this trend of full-priced, standalone remasters is a new one. I can only think of Ninja Gaiden Sigma last generation, which isn't quite so analogous because it wasn't on PS2 to begin with.

Loved sleeping dogs on the 360 , probably one of my favourite openworld games. If this remaster had some significant changes (new missions, more stuff todo in the city) i would probably buy it at full price.

As it stands there is so much more coming in october i probably wont have time until at least next year, which means it should be alot cheaper by then.

I dunno about complete shit, but I do like the original Lara more.

While I sometimes do find original Lara more idealistic and supermodel-like in facial structure, she looks way less realistic in the flesh, shape, and detail of her face. The new one looks way more like she could be a real person, but with that seems to have come the downside of her having more typically female facial proportions, such as less highlighted and full cheekbones compared to original Lara.

Doesn't the GotY edition include all that and regularly goes on sale for under $10?

I remember trying to recreate one of my favorite screenshots from my PC playthrough. Results were... meh. Didn't really like new Lara's face, and while it has been awhile since I played it on PS4, I seem to remember her face being more static throughout the entire game than OG Lara's.

They do deals basically every month on the vanilla version and the GOTY version on steam, I'd say unless it looks off the charts better than the PC version, the PC GOTY version will be much much cheaper. Heck I saw sleeping dogs for $5 just last week on bundle stars.

Anyway, having played a bit of Nightmare on North Point and Year of the Snake, I don't think its anywhere near as fun as the main game (which was my GOTY for 2012). Or maybe its just me, as I'd rather move on to new games then play with DLC.

I don't think this definitive version will be for everyone, I hope people who haven't played it buy it though as its an amazing game. But there's going to be lots of new games come holiday season which will probably be more worth it, considering Sleeping Dogs HD version can be had on Steam for $5.

Oh no I forgot the static face issue haha. Yes, it was determined that the mo cap didn't transfer well onto a new model in several scenes but would likely be a great improvement for the sequel as a technical model. But there's definitely a lot of scenes where her eyes looked way more realistic and not as painted light while her flesh tones were much more organic looking in more lighting. Especially the cheeks with the subsurface scattering.

Lol at people complaining about the price. With black friday being a month away from release, as well as the infamous buy 2 get one free deals this holiday season, the price will drop.

Just saw this thread.

Loved the original game, but why are they spending all their resources and devs on a remaster, when they could be working on a sequel instead. Dangit

On PS4 or XBox One?

Oh the PC version. I think its been said a million times in this thread that this is for people without a PC capable of running it. Try to keep up.

The comment I was replying to is talking about DLC pricing on PC. You try to keep up.

Damn, I'm definitely interested in this. Loved this game intensely.

I can't wait to hear about what kinds of improvements they put into this. The PC version was already pretty impressive, but they set a high bar with TR: DE.

I'd probably be one of the suckers who buys this, though.

Funny enough I was looking at grabbing it used on 360, but I guess I can just score it on PS4 with that being the case.

I assume it's been mentioned, but we can expect an announcement to a sequel shortly, yeah? Great way to garner attention to the series.

I'll buy this at 30$ or less. Likely 20$ or less.

I had an awesome time with Sleeping Dogs but hmmm. Not sure at all if I am willing to bite once more. No, not for 60 bucks. Half that and I would bite again.

Didn't Sleeping Dogs get a huge pricebut on Xboxlive last year and was even one of the 'Free with Gold'-games?

Ultra Fake Edit: It was!

The complete DLC pack has been $7 the past Summer Sale on Steam.

Well, it has been on my backlog for a while, but I could just get the 360 version for less than $20, but, how could you guys not think the industry has gone a little overboard with remasters, this year alone we get Halo, GTA V, TLOU, this and at the start of next year REmake. REmake and Halo is understandable, but the rest? Come on you guys, and I remember how Nintendo was getting flack for Wind Waker HD (quite a bit of it was for the price, but still), but at least that game was from 2 generations ago as opposed to being released 1-2 years ago. And I know it doesn't take many people to make, but companies are just going to keep milking their games this way.
