Drunken F00l made a TF2 program that ran it in text mode and idled for you when the drop system first came out. Valve dubbed it a cheat, removed all the items, gave items to those that didn't cheat, and hired DF.

Not sure how they feel about this system.

Let's not forget how, before he was hired, his main Steam account was VAC banned for leaking information about the Golden Wrench drop times.

Anyway, I wish the card idler had been around a few months ago, when I was doing this hardcore.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
So I approved Milchmann's code for the OSX and Linux ports. Excellent work!

I'm running Idle Master on my Macbook now but everything is working as planned. Once that's done I'll be testing the Linux port on my Ubuntu laptop, but the code looks solid.

Thanks again for all of your hard work!

It seems to be bugged for me right now, I have a game with card drops remaining (slam bolt scrappers) but idle master keeps saying there are 0 games with card drops.

I idled a few games when it first came out so I'm not sure what's changed.

It could be your cookie information has changed and needs updated. I'm planning on adding a bit to the code so that it can detect whether or not you're "logged in" or not. So like, if the cookies are valid and you're logged in it will carry forth and do it's thing. If your cookie information isn't valid, it will give you an error message as such (rather than what it currently does, which is tell you that have you no games to idle).

My cookies should be fine, I even tried clearing them all and putting the new information in but it didn't work.

Edit: Wiped everything and did a clean run and it seems to be working now, must have screwed something up before, my bad.

No worries, glad you got it sorted out.

I just pushed a code change to Github that will check when Idle Master starts that your cookie data is valid. Should help alleviate some of the confusion that seems to pop up when it says you have 0 games to idle but in reality you have more than that.

Phew, finished getting all the cards for all my games, took 8 days, about 10 hours per day.
Thank you very much for that program.

I just published Idle Master version 0.4. Changes include:
  • Added sorting options to settings.txt
  • Fixed a bug in online-detection function that would cause Idle Master to close prematurely
  • Added check to see if user's cookie data is valid
  • Idle Master no longer relies on the taskkill application which is not present in Windows XP
  • Initial support for OSX and Linux platforms
  • Includes in-depth documentation for sorting and blacklist functionality

I keep on getting this whenever I start up Idlemaster (it was working perfectly fine for me until a few days ago). I've updated all of my information under "settings" and I decided to download the newest version of Idlemaster and I'm still stuck with this message

I still have not been able to fix this issue and I feel like I've done everything that I can

The error message "Error setting cookies" will only show up if your settings.txt isn't formatted properly. You'll need at least:

sessionid="yoursessionidhere"
steamLogin="yourevenlongersteamlogincookiedatahere"
steamparental=""
sort=""

For best results, put these values each on their own line in the settings.txt file.

This error doesn't indicate that your cookie information is incorrect, only that it's incorrectly formatted in the settings file. Also, case matters - so be sure it says steamLogin and not steamlogin, for example.

Will 32-bit Windows support be officially added soon? I was using the workaround version of start.exe linked in Issue #6 for 0.3, but 0.4 still doesn't have 32-bit support.

Thanks!

Yeah, I'm working on that part hopefully I'll have something together soon. I'm trying to build a version of start.exe that works with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows.

We've also removed the reliance on the Windows-only task killing application that apparently isn't included in the "home" versions of Windows by default.

Hopefully very soon it'll be available on every major computing platform that Steam supports.

My Hotmail account is all like:

I know the feeling. One night I forgot to put my phone on silent before I went to bed and was startled at 3AM when everything started selling all of a sudden.

I've been converting my sales into TF2 keys to prevent myself from spending them. Up to 22 so far, so also very thankful to jshackles and stump for helping me get value for money out of my Steam library.

I got a feature request
Please, add this

Minimize to tray would be awesome instead of having icons on the taskbar.
Would be nice to "hide" idler in the work computer

So, I'm having an issue. It says that it collected all of the cards for battleblock theater, but I only got 2 of the 9 cards and it moved on to the next game..

Help?

mostvalue sorting is soooooooo great! thanks alot!!!!!!

Finally done! Thanks a bunch. Took ~ 10 days (edit: for 150 or so games). Card profits payed for Jet Gunner, 2 State of Decay dlcs, USF4 upgrade, 2033 redux upgrade and Mount Your Friends. Fuuuuckin sweet, dude!

This was working great for me until I got a new game to idle this weekend. I went to run Start.exe, but steam-idle.exe was removed by Norton for being considered a threat as ws.reputation.1

That just means that very few people have used it in the Norton Community. Essentially that means that there's nothing inherently malicious about it, except that it's brand new.

In this case, it's probably safe to ignore and pull it back out of quarantine.

I have like 5 games left to go. I made like 18 dollars. Not bad, I guess. Card value has really plummeted though. I was getting like 6 cent average per card. Most expensive card I sold was a foil for like 30 cents.

thanks for idlemaster, jshackles. So far it worked wonderfully for me, no problems whatsoever. I even might have no games to idle some day in the near future.

For those of you that have been having problems with running Idle Master on 32-bit versions of Windows: I just updated the program and it should now work in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows.

As always, let me know if you run into any problems.

I noticed Idle Master was stopping games that still had cards left, so I updated to the latest version and now I can't run it anymore. It just says "Invalid cookie data, cannot log into Steam." It's strange because my cookie information hasn't changed. In fact, that same cookie data was working a few minutes before I upgraded.

Edit: Nevermind. I guess using Notepad to edit the settings screwed up the carriage returns or something. Edited the settings with Sublime and everything works fine. Thanks jshacks.

The 32-bit version is working great on my old laptop. Thanks for the quick update!

Edit: I'm not seeing timestamps in the output window anymore. Were they taken out between 0.3 and 0.5? I found them useful.

The program hasn't ever had timestamps on the output window. Unless you're referring to the previous user-generated compiled 32-bit binary, which may have been compiled from a different source.

This is a feature I'm planning on rolling into the main branch, but I have a different idea for the implementation.

Yeah, that's where I saw it. Looking forward to it landing in the main branch!

Just started using it, so good. I've been using the appid trick before but this is definitely much better. Many thanks to jshackles and stump.

Here's a screenshot of what I'm working on:

EDIT: And - it's live.

EDIT EDIT: and now it will also log all output to idlemaster.log (this will help us troubleshoot issues that come up)

Thanks jshackles and stump, this is such a godsend!!

Never have I thought there would be a day where I would actually be able to exhaust all the potential card drops from my massively backlogged library =D

edit: been following IdleMaster's development since the first few days and it just keeps getting better and better. The current version with the logs and timestamps is beautiful!

When I get a new version is it okay to copy the content of my existing settings file across?

Usually yes. I'll try to keep this in mind when I'm coding new features.

If you have one of the earlier builds though and you're upgrading to the latest version, you'll want to double check the settings.txt file to make sure you have all of the fields in both files.

You can also copy/paste the contents of your old settings file (everything in between quotation marks "") into the new file and that'll work too.

Thanks dude, I copied the text and it was fine.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Any chance of an option to have IM re-check card values between game switches?

Edit: If this already happens, then feel free to laugh at me, haha.
