Announcement trailer - Might & Magic Heroes VII

Did they never patch that nonsense out of the game? I recall a bunch of Ubi games had always online removed, no?

You don't get kicked anymore, but if you lose connection to the servers you lose your 'Dynasty' stats which renders the campaign pretty much unplayable.

Preview http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/might-magic-heroes-7/artikel/might_magic_heroes_7,51546,3058798,2.html.

Summary:

7 resources instead of 4
Separate city screens
No teleporting units between cities, need to use caravans
War machines, catapults, first aid tents, ballistas..all are back.
Much more open maps, focus on free exploration
uses Unreal Engine 3
7 campaigns (6 main ones plus one ending one)
More objects/obstacles on battle maps

Sounds very very good so far

Well I have been out of loop with the series since HoMM 3, which was one of my favorite games growing up... But what the hell happened? This looks so different I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Or is the camera just rotated into a very weird perspective?

so they pretty much decide to go back to 5.... which is fine i guess consider how fucked up 6 is.

BlackHole (the makers of Heroes6) went bankrupt because of Ubisoft. Fuck them, i'm not buying any HMM game from them. Luckily i have King's Bounty now :)

Yeah. Shame. Such a nice little dev with very uniquelly recongnizable art style. Liked Armies of Exigo, MiM6 even more and I loved Mark of Chaos.

Confirmed Hot Seat is nice. It sounds like they are saying all the right things. I guess we'll see.

I know it's not possible but I would kill for a console release of this game.

When I last played it in January, it still did this. Lose connection to their servers and you get kicked, even when playing just AI offline. If it's been patched since then, great.

The situation with King's Bounty is identical to HOMM. The King's Bounty/Armored Princess devs Katauri went bankrupt, so now the publisher handed it off to someone else.

It did as far as I am concerned.
Heroes 5 isn't bad. Sure, the AI tends to oscillate between cheating son-of-a-whore and mentally impaired baboon (particularly in the campaign, where the AI fixpack guys couldn't do much due to fixed scripting) but Heroes games never really had great AI. Its shortcomings have always been padded over with built-up castles, high-level heroes and lots of starting resources.

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
Okay, so it's a regular 50€ game, right? No F2P/Browser/Multiplayer/MTA shit right? Right? Please tell me that's right

Delicious, but I still want that Heroes 3 HD version with In the Wake of Gods built in, online play, and being able to watch other players fight in random battles. I understand why they don't do it (can't see what monsters the enemy has) but at least have it as an option, or even allies only.

Hopefully they just come out and say "Yeah, we decided to just make it like Heroes III, but with better graphics, more spells and more artifacts. Have fun guys."

It would be amazing.

Heroes 3 is far and away the best in the series.

Absolutely true. I still play it to this day. I've even introduced others to it over the years and they all end up loving it.

I want to be excited.

Or actually I wish Heroes 3 had better online multiplayer (or maybe it does and I'm not aware of it).

4 is a good HoMM. I never understood complains, it was different, but not that different. I actually really liked focus on heroes in combat.
To be fair I understood many of its detractors' viewpoints. The 'branching' experiment was a dud since in a lot of cases one of the creatures was way more powerful than the other (ex. Vampire vs. Demon Spawn) or had ridiculous resource reqs (ex. Elves needed 20 wood for their building; Equilibris lowered that). Also, a good number of hero specialisations were weak or melee only, which didn't fit in many cases with said hero's focus (ex. melee ability on a spellcaster). Sieges bing downgraded was another valid criticism. I feel Heroes 4 might have worked better had it been more narrowly-focused, tactically-oriented. It might have worked better had it been closer to, ironically, King's Bounty.

Back in 2012 after they finished 'Royal Quest'.

For instance they had nothing to do with Warriors in the North or it's expansion.

Damn..I did't even realize. Jeez...this is what I was afraid when they announced Royal Quest. Hope the guys can reform under new banner. One of the nicest russian studios around. Not just KB, but I absolutely loved Space Rangers

It's shady of 1C though then, I mean..Warriors of the North has damn Katauri logo :(

On the other hand, best written campaigns in the series. HoMM 5 was a cringefest in comparison.

I never like when 2d managerials, RTS and similar pass to 3d because they may look more "realistic"(and that's often not a good thing imo) but they lose clarity, this is HOMM2 for example:

I disagree, especially with RTS part [Total Annihilation :>], but i think HoMM is kind of game that really should be handled as Project Eternity, so 2D painted over 3D planes.

Yea I think for any isometric game pre-rendered backgrounds with 3d characters is the best. Gets rid of the camera shenaniganry that comes with 3d perspectives.

I never cared much about 2D/3D debate in this case. I love the first four HoMMs, bu always felt they were pretty damn ugly games :D Now Disciples....that's where loosing 2D really hurt

Disciples 3 was just a bad game, graphics had little to do with that.

Man I played the shit out of 2, that was such a great game.

Oh I like the look of this very much, the dynamic world map is great. Town screens, battle panning, everything looks very good. And flanking! Hopefully the UI in message boxes, overlay hints and spellbook are still an early version, they seem a bit plain.

It would've been nice if the interview was done by somebody who had actually played a HOMM game before, but luckily the Ubi rep explained a lot of the action. Sounded like the Ubi rep knew well that VI was an offbeat and they're trying to sway away from that.

Count me out. HoMM6 was too much of a negative experience, so it will take some serious convincing to get me onboard.

The campaign was an awful string linear caverns and encounters and doesn't actually introduce much strategic level gameplay until towards the end of each faction's chapter, playing more like a King's Bounty game where you level up your solitary hero rather than HoMM where you command multiple heroes to capture and control an entire map full of resources and centers of gravity.

Multiplayer was trash due to extreme faction imbalance, such that within a week every match was just necro on necro violence.

To top it off, Uplay was at its most unreliable, locking people out of their game for long stretches.

If I'll ever buy it (probably as a $7.99 GamersGate/GreenManGaming/GetLoadedGo/etc. -75% off bundle with all the expansions in about 6 years' time) the first thing I'll do is turn off the cinematic scene transitions.

Frankly, I find that old wallboard style of battlefield really primitive now. After King's Bounty's complex battlefields, everything else feels like a downgrade.

I disagree, especially with RTS part [Total Annihilation :>], but i think HoMM is kind of game that really should be handled as Project Eternity, so 2D painted over 3D planes.

My point was not about aesthetics or complexity, but about readability, as the video shows imo it's really hard to understand where you can or cannot go just looking at the map, only with the help of the signed path(made by very little points :\ ) it's possible to understand the path needed to go somewhere.

But all you need to do is turn on unit move area shadows. They've been a feature of HoM&M games since 2. If anything, 4 was worse in ths regard since the fixed isometric view made some pointer positions somewhat difficult to see.
