Since I've been looking forward to this game for a while now, I decided to visit my local game shop this afternoon to pick up Bullet Girls on its first day of release.
The elderly store owner, who has somewhat started to recognize me by now since I visit his shop often, told me that Bullet Girls is really popular since he already sold most of his store's copies during the morning. Luckily, he still had a few left to sell to me.
So I got back home and played Bullet Girls for a few hours before it sucked my PS Vita's batteries dry. First impressions:
- Game runs at 60 FPS. No, I can't believe I'm saying that.
- Controls take a while to get used to. Believe it or not, this game does NOT control like a typical TPS. Experiencing it firsthand will be a better explanation than me talking. Also, the options menu give you three different camera options. Personally, I prefer Camera B.
- Five weapon types (at least, so far): pistols, shotguns, rifles, bazookas, and grenades.
- For those familiar with Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus, Bullet Girls has already officially outdone that game in terms of customization and fanservice. No, I can't believe I'm saying that. Those 1600 different combinations of bras and panties might truly take a while to complete...
- The game can surprisingly be difficult if you don't know what you're doing. Use the wrong set of equipments for a mission or play like Rambo, and you'll be shredded into a naked chick in seconds. The good news is that there's no game overs; failing a mission still rewards you with some cash and sends you back to HQ. Take note though, I'm already in Chapter 3 and I've already gotten at least three "game overs."
- Clothing destruction animations can be turned off at the options. I keep it on, though. In addition, Bullet Girls' clothing destruction mechanics are much more advanced than Senran Kagura's. For example, shoot a girl in her sleeve, her sleeve gets destroyed. Shoot her in the back, and you create a hole at the back of her shirt. Shoot her in the socks, and her socks get wrecked.
- My goodness. THOSE interrogation minigames. Senran Kagura has nothing on Bullet Girls now, at least in terms of fanservice. Will you grope, poke, rub, pat, or tickle your prisoner? Not me. What I like to do is equip a roll of natto (fermented soybeans) and slap my prisoner with it until she spills the beans. Choice, peeps.
- When your girl takes a direct hit from a tank cannon, every single piece of clothing she's wearing gets immediately destroyed. Bras, panties, and socks included. Even if she gets hit at full HP, she'll immediately end up stark naked. And then your butt-naked girl gets up, picks up her gun, and continues fighting said tank on foot. WELP! That's it! These girls are officially manlier than Rambo! I'm out!
My opinions might change for better or worse as I progress through the game, so don't take these as my final opinions.
