Dead or Alive 5 announced for PS4/Xbox1

I was on the verge of buying DoA5U the other day (Giantbomb using DoA5 to test PSNow made me want to jump in) but held off until I could clear some HDD space. That was fortunate, now I'll hold out for the PS4 version.

I've been figuring for a while that they were going to do this.

No way are they adding in all the costume DLC (they probably make more profit off the Whales), but they'll probably add some, Phase 4, Marie, that female Tengu, and some guy characters to the current-gen port.

+All dlc ingame and no more dlc will be added for current characters (unless new characters are added then dlc for them is fine)

My bad, i thought doa5 was 30fps for some reason. Are the character intros before battle 30fps?

Yes. 30fps for the cutscenes in story mode and opening and endings for character matches. 60fps for fighting only. Also like Ninja Gaiden 3 and TTT2 and a few other games, the dynamic resolution BS comes back

And yes, they took out deformable terrain. Something that was with the series since the original xbox. THey really took out all the power budget they had in order to get those high fidelity models, they took out all AA, downgraded the backgrounds and made everything a bad texture. It was worse because a lot of stages were just browns and greys anyway, so it stood out as much rougher too. So really, all the effort they spent on the models was compromised by the rest of the presentation.

WHat i like about this new one is that there is literally no reason to skimp now, and everything can really shine. Put in some new levels with a more diverse color set, touch up everything and make it real nice at locked 1080p with some good AA...mmm

*edit*

beaten...i type damn slow lol

Looks like Tecmo and CAPCPOM are out to see who can rerelease their latest fighter the most.

I'm looking forward to buying Guilty Gear Xrd six times ;)

If waifu DLC is cross-buy I'm there day 1. I love these games, especially in launch month when there are still a bunch of people as terrible as me playing.

Seems like Tecmo is still holding out on PC. If they don't put this on and Tekken 7 is on PC, then T7 will be the only 3D fighter on PC.

What i meant was that they already worked on nintendo franchises like other m so they already have a design of her they could use in the doa5 u. She did appear in Doa Dimensions like 16-bit says. Same goes for ridley. They also are working on Hyrule warriors so that should be even more easy to port character models to the wiiu version. They could even add link would be fun to see him make a return in a fighting game but he fits more into the Soul Caliber world. And if the boobs physics bothers you, you can turn them off in the option menu.

well yeah that is why i found it strange that the wiiu never got a port of doa5

and still might not get a port of this version so glad i have a ps4 coming

Considering DOA5 released in 2012, they better have something a little cooler than a resolution bump if it's taking them until 2015 to get it ready.

I'm sure they didn't start working on it in 2012, but I wont complain if they something a little cooler.

Yeah hayashi was saying he was looking into that. Interview from siliconera back in 2012

Are you also working on a Wii U version since Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge will launch alongside the system?

Right now, we’re doing our best to get the game ready for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. After players get their hands on Dead or Alive 5 we want to hear what they think and based on that we’ll see if we should make a Wii U version.

So i guess Warrior Orochi 3 and Ninja gaiden 3 bombed pretty hard? also had to lol at this comment

How about DLC characters?

Right now, we’re not thinking about that. It depends closer to the end of development. Just to be clear, we’re not going to have paid downloadable content characters. We don’t want to do that.

still hurts......

Hayashi and Team Ninja still jumped back on board the Wii U bus with Hyrule Warriors/Zelda Muso

I bought Vita for Dead or Alive 5 (...and Wipeout HD/Fury tracks, MEtal Gear Solid collection) and the more I play the more disappointed I am with this game. Everything is so drab compared to 2... which was my last DoA before 5.

Were 3 and 4 playing similarly to this one or is it a new, more realistic approach?
Sometimes I think the only reason I play it is because it's the only 3D fighter for Vita.

I agree, these are screenshots I took of both games:

Do you have one of the jungle stage in DOA5? It's considerably less impressive than the one in DOA4. Terrible textures all around, lack of reflective shaders for the water, really blocky geometry on the rocks.

This is great news, as the game is certainly in need of a re-master. 1080p, anti-aliasing, 60 fps, stereoscopic 3d?, and better online multiplayer. I hope they include all previous DLC, and then some! I have the original DoA5 and none of the DLC, so ya, i'm excited.

I think the title should also mention that DOA5:LR is also coming to ps3/360 as well.

Where does it say that? If that's true I hope it does add quite a bit since I've yet to get DOA5U and have only played it at a friend's place.

I just hope the pricing and added features are decent enough to warrant it as you can find DOA5U for like 15 bucks or less now.

Rig in current gen graphics... unf.
Rig is nice, except for his janky prison tats. I'm more of a Bayman man myself.

Really, all I need is one more hot guy, some speedos to stuff them all in, an easier way to take pictures, and I'm set. They can release all the bikinis and saucy attire for the ladies they want then, but give us man lovers a (literal) bone here.

I think the main issue with the technical flaws in the recent games, is the engine Team Ninja have been using, which is the exact same across DOA5 and NG3. Terrible drag environments, low resolution textures, 2D effects like explosions and fire. Its a mess. About the only thing its optimized for is dynamic resolution scaling at 60fps.

I guess they did it to have an easier time sharing assets(kasumi, ayane, momoji and ryu models are the exact same models across DOA5 and NG3RE), but i'd just shove all that shit out of the window and do what Team Iron Fist is doing and license UE4 for all future projects.

It'll be much cheaper, much more versatile and easier to use when the time comes, and you won't be bottle-necked by a terrible rendering pipeline that can only do good character models when you take everything else out.

Awesome news. It's interesting that I was just thinking about this hopefully happening last night when I popped in the original DOA5 into my PS3.

I was also thinking about getting Ultimate since it has more characters and probably more people playing online.

how much time have you sunk into DoA5? dunno if the game logs hours played, but i'm curious.

It's Tecmo.

OF COURSE the DLC aren't gonna cross over.

It already carried over from DOA5 to DOA5U/DOA5+, so I'm not sure what you mean.

On PS platforms, DLC will most likely carry over, with more packs thrown into the retail release of Last Round.

That being said, there's never going to be a disc-release with all the costumes on it, so people may as well not even worry about that. The sum total of all the DLC far eclipses the total they could charge at retail for a game. It's not happening.

Does simply owning 3 copies count? I had 360, have ps3, and now im going for ps4, but i obviously wont own them all at one time..

Overall if we're talking both 360 and PS3 sku's combined i'd probably say i've clocked over 200+ hours into online, arcade mode(unlocked all unlockable costumes for every character on every difficulty) and time attack all together with about 100 dollars in girl costume DLC..yeah DOA is my jam.

DOA5 and DOA5+ I've sunk at least 100ish hours in, I'm still pretty terrible. I was a B Rank for awhile before Ultimate arrived. With DOA5U, I've spent so much money on DLC but haven't had nearly enough time to play- maybe 40 hours or so.

Loved it all! Can't wait for it on PS4! Played so much of Plus on the train commutes, it was my fair weather companion nearly every day for the last year! Dimensions was my go-to, but this replaced it!

I prefer DOA5 over the cartoony look
deadoraliveobqma.jpg

Ummmph no way im going back to that cartoony look after this bump.
Im hoping the nextgen version brings all the graphical features that were missing from the last gen version.

Character models aside, the game is a massive downgrade from DOA4.

No reflections, no deformable terrain, awful IQ and textures, and few environmental effects. Even DOA3 had blowing leaves and such.

Thats why we triple dip and get the definitive graphical version on PS4/XB1 im hoping everything that was left out of it will be added, including AA.
I imagine the team can implement reflections and more atmospheric stages with easy.
If its just a res-boost i will be quite dissappointed.

To be fair: This was the first DOA (outside of XBV PSP) in the post-Itagaki/X-box-exclusive era. So I'm willing to cut them some slack on a "new engine" for DOA for PS360 and the PS420.
