Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Which one is the one I want for PS1/GBA/SNES games with sound?

Ah, do I have to update to 3.18 for these to work?

Sorry I haven't been paying attention to the Vita hacking scene for a long time.

GBA/SNES will work with any exploit.

PS1 requires either TN-V but has some compatibility issues because it uses a custom sound plugin OR you can use a seperate exploit just for PS1 games using XSmoto or Tekken 2.

If you want perfect sound with PS1 games you'll have to rely on the PS1 loader exploit available on Tekken 2 or Xsmoto/superbike 2.

Emulation will have to be done through PSP kernel exploited games like Gladiator Begins.

Oh forgot about VHBL but may as well go with eCFW and get to play PSP games not available on the store too.

For PS1 with sound you want Tekken 2 or Sports Superbike 2.

GBA/SNES I'm not entirely sure of myself, but anything that is on the VHBL list I think would be a safe bet.

And I have no idea if they work on anything other than 3.18, but since they do work on 3.18 and there's a kernel exploit for 3.18 I think there's no harm in updating to it.

Ok, I am a super noob.

I have the Gladiator game. How do I do the PSP hack and transfer my PSP games to Vita?

Here's how I just did it:

Install CMA, let it sync with your Vita using the Content Manager on the device, you now have PS Vita/PSAVEDATA in your "My Documents" folder. In it is a folder with a seemingly random name.

Get the exploited save file with the "TN-V" Custom Firmware (uncheck the download manager option, it's malware), either EU or US. The European version is just a folder named "ULES01515SAVE00" with some files in it. Put that folder in the aforementioned PS Vita/PSAVEDATA/*RANDOM NAME* folder.

Download the official PSP firmware, rename it to "660.PBP" and put it in the "ULES01515SAVE00" folder (or US equivalent) which is now located in the seemingly randomly-named folder.

Go to your Vita > Content Management and copy the save file via Applications > PSP/Other after choosing PC > Vita. Exit the content manager, launch Gladiator Begins, load the save file in the game. When loaded, select the "Item Box" option. Your Vita now shows a white or green screen. Hold "R".

You're now in a menu. Go to Advanced > Install 6.60 files. Go back once it's done and choose Exit. Congrats, you can now do whatever you could do on a PSP with a custom firmware on it (e.g. homebrew).

To launch the PSP environment, just do Gladiator Begins > Save > Item Box again. You won't see the menu and instead boot directly into it.

To transfer games/homebrew/etc I used this video as a guide.

Okay, just to confirm, I need Tekken 2 from the PSN store while on version 3.18 to play PS1 games with full sound capabilities?

What other things do I need? Is there a tutorial on this process?

I'd really appreciate it guys!

So does this leak spell the end of the Vita homebrew scene entirely after this, or will it just be a tremendous roadblock for the future?

I haven't tried this since the UNO hack, but I'm downloading my free Patapon in case I want to do it again and if someone makes the save file for it.

Entirely? No. It's going to push the scene back a bit, but mostly it's going to keep there from being any future PSP mode exploits any time soon. As posted on Wololo... this was a leak of 2x as many exploit games as were announced throughout the entire 9 year PSP/Vita scene. This was overall a HUGE loss and will make future releases a lot harder both in terms of available games and personnel.

It makes me wonder how they even find something like that.

You work backwards. They modified a known stored value for Tekken 2 to see if they could get it to crash. They then looked at the crash to see if they could do anything interesting with it.

Could not see the save in the CMA

Are you using the US or EU version of Gladiator Begins? Also are you sure you're putting the save in PS Vita/PSAVEDATA/(insert your random gibberish folder)/ULUS10528SAVE00?

(edit) Just finished getting everything working on my Vita, thank god for this... I can play Breath of Fire 3 again without digging out my (dying) PSP... why Capcom refused to sell it on the US PSN store I have no clue...

The save file exists, it's in the big save file dump.

i can't get TN-V installed, even though it's supposed to be a eCFW exploit. probably just user error
Could not see the save in the CMA

QCMA changes the path to the Root User folder, instead of the Documents folder inside, so as to not conflict with regular CMA

Is there a specific version of Gladiator Begins that this works with? I don't think it's been updated, but I actually bought the game for my PSP ages ago (not a bad game) and one of the ones I have on PSN that actually works on the Vita.

I tried doing this, but the savegame file simply loads, it doesn't crash.

edit: Nevermind, I'm an idiot, you have to pick Item Box

edit2:

Once the save loads you select item box, then the game crashes.

Thanks!

I can't seem to get the Tekken exploit to work. The game just crashes and hangs on a black screen. I've only ever seen people getting it to work using the EU version so maybe the US files aren't right.

Yea same here. Im not sure Im even using the right PSX save file for Tekken2. Could someone tell me what file exactly I need?

OILIX_2.ZIP > PS1 > Tekken 2 1.80 tests > Tekken2_US_PS1_180_Loader.zip > Transfer SLUS00213 to Save folder???

decided to scrub out, but now the official CMA doesn't recognize my vita through USB, only wifi. any thoughts?

Make sure to fully uninstall QCMA, or even continue to use it. There is no reason to use the official CMA over QCMA.

QCMA installs a custom driver that interferes with CMA (and vice versa) so full uninstalls are necessary between switching between the two.

How can I play my PSN PSP games that work on the Vita, but don't "officially" work on the Vita?

Like Phantasy Star :portable 2 and VC2? Can I copy them from the PSP to the Vita and have them work, or do I have to do something to turn them into a .iso? (I know how to rip games from UMD, but not from PSN)

Use Vita FTP.

Create an ISO folder like you do on PSP and transfer the games you want to play there.

is it worth it to get tekken 6 or xmoto game for PS1 games ?

I already have the gladiator game. and the only ps1 games I own that I would want to play on psp are final fantasy 7 to 9.

will they work with sound on my vita via TN ?

and now the xmoto works ? because sure as hell I will not play 1 round of tekken 2 every time I want to play psx games. that game is just horrible.

I finally managed to get the Gladiator Begins save to work. Turns out that the save file I downloaded was corrupt, so had to look around for another. Quick question for anyone who might know but hypothetically speaking, say I don't want to partake in TN-V10 and update to 3.30 which would certainly fix the issue, would I brick or damage my Vita? Or would I have to uninstall the files or something before updating?

Nothing can really be damaged unless you go crazy in PSPfiler or something and delete a bunch of important system files (and even then I BELIEVE every PSP game is 'instanced' in it's own memory so would just need to be reinstalled).

Everything is still stored on your memory card, so if you update and the update blocks you from accessing the exploit, you can simply transfer everything you want to your PC or PS3 and format the card.

What is Vita VTP?

FTP, just like if you were working on a website or the like. It's generally 'safer' to transfer via your save game than the FTP program since you could end up saving/overwriting important parts of the emulated flash.

It doesn't show all the games/trial for me...only PS3 stuff...?
Hmm... yeah same here on my main account. You might wanna make a brand new account and get the demos on it, that's what I did anyway.

Edit: Downloading a few trials to see if they really turn into full games.

Don't you have to decrypt PSN games you own first? Or did that step get obsoleted at some point?

Ah, thanks. Just knowing that led me to the right tool.

It's pretty ridiculous I have to go through all this just to play the games I bought for my PSP on my Vita...

Welp, PS1 exploit works. Sports Superbike 2 (EU) is only 2.99 and 37MB.

Transfer save like with PSP stuff, load it under Options, then start a 2 player race. Crashes into a PSX Loader menu.

can I use my Vita as a normal Vita if I "hack" it to use emulators now and then?

can I use it connected to PSN, for my PS4, buy and download games from PSN store etc or do I have to use it in a kind of a walled environment to avoid possible issues with my PSN account?

There are too many good Vita games for me to risk it just for emulation

Yes. As long as you don't update.

When 3.30 hits you won't be able to log into PSN, so you will either stay on 3.18 or update and lose the exploit.

Your Vita works normally. The moment Vita games start requiring newer firmware versions you'd have to choose between new Vita games or complete PS1 and PSP compatibility though.

Damn, that's nice, I just bought tekken (EU) for 1.99€ but it's 486MB big...

Edit: looks like Sports Superbike 2 is not available (anymore) in the EU store (germany).

Glad I bought Tekken then
