Are flea markets a disappointment in general for finding nes games? I went to one today and found a copy of final fantasy for nes in good condition for 10 bucks from one seller. I ended up buying it because it seemed like a decent price for a game that was in such good condition.

This other seller though, had a lot of nes and snes games but they were in poor condition. The carts were dirty and had discoloration in most cases. Some of the labels were peeling off. I asked him if he had SMB 2 or Mike Tyson's Punch Out and he dug out several tubs from his van to find them for me but he wanted for 15 bucks Super Mario Bros 2 that was in poor condition. He ended up not having Mike Tyson, but he pulled out some boxes with super nintendo games so I asked if I could look through them. I was a little surprised when he told me no even though he had already gotten them out. I really wanted to just stand there and tell any potential customers that his games were in shit condition and they shouldn't buy them.

This other seller wanted 40 bucks for a loose copy of Super Mario Kart. The local used game shop in my town has it for 20 bucks. All in all it was a disappointing trip.
I just went to a flea market the other day, and the only NES games were a stack of sports titles in discolored carts, variations of the SMB/Duck Hunt/Track pack-in carts in poor, discolored shape, and discolored carts with almost no label on them to distinguish their title. It was a sad state of affairs at the Melrose Park Swap-o-Rama.

A nice lil' famicom package arrived yesterday!

I love Rollergames! Underappreciated. Same with 'Bad and Rad' on Game Boy - Konami made great Skate adventure games, great music, awesome 80s 'attitude'.

I especially love my PAL Konami version in the Silver Konami box!

I have a cartridge of Legacy of the Wizard that I cant get to work after having cleaned it with alkohol. Does anybody have any tips on what to do next to get it to work?

Game bit screwdriver + brasso.
Brasso? That works?

I have a mint condition Bayou Billy that doesn't work, might try brasso, though it might just be it's not compatible with my only NES, the AV Fami, there are a few games like that.

I'd suggest an art eraser over an abrasive like Brasso.

If you're going to use it, dab very little on, wait a few seconds, and wipe off slowly. Don't pile it on and don't keep rubbing vigorously until all the black residue is gone... that's the thin, gold layer protecting your actual contacts from corroding over time.

Thanks, I have the screwdriver, but will try the Brasso. Hope that helps!

Edit: Mzo - what is an art eraser?

Also Bayou Billy is a terrible game lol, will it really be worth if with that one D.Lo?

Honestly any eraser should be fine. Like NESComplex said years ago, they were designed to remove graphite from paper without damaging it. They can rub off most of the residue on a contact without the need for chemicals or other abrasives.

I've never found rubbing alcohol to do a damn thing for me, personally, but none of the carts I've cleaned up like this have given me any trouble going on two years now.

Yeah, this is the first cart where I havent been able to get the game to work ever, so I dont know. Maybe the game itself is broken. I just thought that I needed some new input on how to do stuff.

Isnt Solstice hard as hell already though? Makes me think this game is night-on-impossible.

gameplay wise i dont find solstice to be that hard at all just a couple rooms that require some precise jumps where as airball has that but now you are on a timer you are constantly deflating and you have to find pump up stations to keep you alive

Ok, I am impressed. I feel the game is almost impossible thanks to 1) forcing you to do some extremely cryptic shit, 2) making it possible for you to more or less ruin your game if you do things in the wrong order, 3) lacking a save feature and 4) some of the rooms being almost sadistic in the timing and skill required. I still like the game pretty much though, and I have beaten it once when I used a guide, but its way to hard for its own good imo. Would love a similar game without some of those limitations, and unfortunately Equinox which did fix all of that, also lost something along the way making if a less interesting experience imo (even though im not quite sure why).

Hmm I didnt know that about the gold layer, but I never swab the contacts too hard. It did manage to revive a Batman and Robin genesis cart that I tried everything to, so I guess its a balance? Of course I did see some of the black residue on the q-tip.

reproduction cart of airball came in the game is really good its like a lot harder version of solstice with just as good music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_AFPhWwFBA
I'm not feeling that 'just as good music'. It's good, but still has has some of that that European developed 'grating/buzzsaw' instrument sound that I always think sounds awful. C64 fans always blow my mind thinking stuff like Last Ninja was anything near 'good' music, the instruments are awful.

Solstice has a much more open, almost 'Japanese developed' sounding music, very nice instruments.

EDIT: I should note Solstice has that 'warbly' C64-ish sound in the intro theme. But the in-game music avoided the Atari ST/C64 sounds for the most part.

I picked this up for about 350 yen yesterday. There was a price sticker on the actual box instead of the cellophane wrapping, but I was able to get it off without leaving any residue. I'm also not sure if that's a good price for CIB Dr. Mario.

That sounds to me like an incredible price no matter what. I mean, if you heard it typically goes for 100 yen... would you really feel buyers remorse over that little? ;)

I'm so mad at myself for not buying the Dragon warrior/quest NES games a few years ago when I had the chance. They are so much more expensive now than they were 3-4 years ago.. Especially Dragon Warrior/Quest III and IV.

IV is like $70 minimum. Could of have it for like 20 just a few years ago

Nope, I just don't know if it was a lucky find or not. The shop definitely had some over-priced goods, but I found some good PS1 games on the cheap, and they even had some incredible LaserDiscs (like Star Wars IV, V, and VI) for 200 yen each.

That brings back memories of seeing the price list at Funcoland in the 90s where those were the only games that cost over $50. I wasn't into J-RPGs, though, so I usually just ignored them.

Welcome to retro gaming. You will never know regret like looking at prices of games that you could have bought years ago.

Fuck yeah funcoland before it got took over by gamestop. Remember how they use to give a discount if games were in just generic cases? Then how that was like the first thing to stop when they started to change? I remember talking to the workers at one about how bullshit that is and how it will just drive people away. Turns out we were wrong...
