Media Create Sales: Week 37, 2014 (Sep 08 - Sep 14)

I see....nice link btw

I'm like 98% certain the poster in question is referring to the Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes PS4 limited edition bundle that was released alongside the game that was announced in February and released in March

sony announced a ps4 metal gear solid GZ bundle it should help it a bit

And that link probably is for dualshockers article on it

Any effect that bundle would have has of course already happened back in March

A new PS4 bundle for MGSV itself would of course be different

---------------

In regards to a PS4 pricecut next year, if it happens I think Sony would go the whole $100. Cutting a console price by $50 twice is far less effective than cutting it $100 in one go

You forgot Summer Lesson!

I don't blame you.

Also D3 is a 97% owned subsidiary so to a large extent they're Namco games under a different brand name.

Morpheus isn't even confirmed as a retail product yet,so Summer Lesson is more a tech demo at this stage for me.

Man after TGS and how aggressive most thirds parties are releasing stuff on PS4, I doubt the thing goes sub 10k again, hell starting in Feb I doubt it goes below 20k!.

We know you have Mida's touch with your predictions, you just destroyed any potential PS4 had.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
I wonder if Nintendo is even wasting their time with AC Wii U and not just working on the next handheld game.

I thought the same before the e3 - but they seem to be willing to let their biggest IPs drown with the WiiU, so i doubt they will make an exception with Animal Crossing. Not too mention that they already have the HD assets from the AC Plaza app and pretty much everything that is now released and created on WiiU will somehow be used on 4DS and future systems.

I kind of assume Nintendo has to have their internal development studios working on some projects and thus try to simply achieve profitability or marginal loss on each project while having their developers gain experience with HD consoles and as you suggest possibly producing some games that could also end up on successor consoles as well

Smash is on 3DS as well though.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a similar situation with AC. In fact it that audience on handhelds (even in the West)?

Huh? AC is already on 3DS, and just released last year on the 3DS. Smash on the 3DS was a decision made long before both consoles released basically, so it's hard to take that sole instance and make something of Nintendo's decisions going forward. Whether or not they care to make an AC on Wii U, I kind of expect they would considering the existence of the AC Plaza.

I'm surprised nothing was announced for 3DS.
Sure New 3DS is new, but 3rd parties have had it for a bit, since various games are being enhanced.

I guess there was Popolocrois Farm Story (not enhanced), but I don't think anything else notable was announced.

Seems like the XB1 got this title around its launch right? Kind of wonder why they released it for the Wii U later. Maybe they're trying to put it in b/w Bayo 2 & Fatal Frame hoping there's just a bit of Wii U momentum around that time period?

I'll try to finish off Road to TGS either today or tomorrow, but yeah, the general (lack of) profile of the 3DS titles being announced surprised me.

That said, Final Fantasy Explorers did just miss the window, but that's still only one game.

That's part of why I was wondering (prior to New 3DS) if the 4DS was imminent given Nintendo's nigh complete lack of announcements and the increasing scarcity of especially notable third party titles.

If that Final Fantasy schedule (FF every 3 months starting December) is accurate, hopefully we can knock 2 birds out with one stone;
1: Getting the PS4 to a healthier baseline
2: Making people so sick of Final Fantasy that the series finally dies

Road, pls.

Yep, it's irked me as well how scarce new 3DS game announcements have been.

BUT we did get The Legend of Legacy from FuRyu, so at least that's something.

I still will never understand why the leading platform is getting far less support.

3DS is such a shit platform for devs even if there's only like 10 of them on the device

its library is large composed of a bunch of games that sell like 100k, 50k, sub 30k.... then we got some in the 250k-500k range, same with the multimillions. but mostly those <100k games that are fucking garbage

I ain't even high

Huh?....

3DS:
14 titles - 1M or more (counting Smash 3DS)
9 titles - between 500K - 1M
27 titles - between 250K - 500K
About 40 titles between 100K-250K
At least around 200 titles below 100K.

Is this what you mean? Were other platforms much better or something? Isn't that more symptomatic of the Japanese game industry as opposed to some problem w/ the 3DS?

Yeah count me surprised as well in the lack of 3DS/new 3DS announcements. PS4 also surprised me in how much support its getting even if nearly all of them are multi-platform.

I couldn't quite understand what he was saying, but the impression I got was that he thought the niche games were bad and only the 200K+ ones tended to be worth playing.

It seemed to be a game quality opinion post, but I need an angry-yelling-person-to-English translation box to be sure.

Hm I see...

btw is there a good place to see all the summaries of game announcements we got during TGS? Or are you just adding them to Road to TGS?

Then again, I have a feeling Nintendo is holding off on really talking about 2015 yet, as the Wii U is supposed to finally get quite a few titles that year, but we have 0 release dates for any of them. I assume we'll get them in Nov/December or something. I really can't imagine that the 3DS is getting no support in JP for 2015 apart from the already announced titles.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I'll try to finish off Road to TGS either today or tomorrow, but yeah, the general (lack of) profile of the 3DS titles being announced surprised me.

Isn't the above situation like every year - A lack of 3DS announcements?

Third-party developers seem to concentrate their resources on Sony platforms in the first half of the year while in the second half most of their software releases are on the Nintendo 3DS.

Sept-Dec Schedule (100k + sellers):

Haikyu!
Monster Hunter 4G
Tales of the World
One Piece
Etrian Odyssey
Attack on Titan
Final Fantasy Explorers
+ A plethora of Bandai Namco games

The above, with the exception of Monster Hunter 4G I believe, were not announced at TGS.

The release schedule could be applied mostly for last year as well - I wouldn't read too much into it to be honest.

I'm not surprised at the lack of new 3DS announcements. The big series we know of that are handheld are already announced, the growth of mobile has eaten a huge chunk of the rest, and the rest of the developers are focused on the west and PS4/legacy PS3. People focus specifically on the west, but this is a big problem that has been building for a while with the system, and specifically why it's hard to see the system doing fine even in Japan until the end of 2016. This holiday will be good, but I wonder what lasting effect we will see next year.

The release schedule could be applied mostly for last year as well - I wouldn't read too much into it to be honest.

Right and the schedule for 1H 2014 was not great.

So I haven't been following TGS enough.

What about it has produced new confidence in future PS4 sales?

1H 2015:
Dragon Quest Heroes
FF Type-0 ( with FFXV demo)
Bloodborne
Senran Kagura : Estival Versus
Disgaea 5
Yakuza 0
Biohazard Revelations 2
Biohazard Remaster
Metal Slime PS4

"2015":
MGSV TPP
Persona 5
EDF 4.1 SoND
Gundam PS4
Ys

Isn't that list, for the most part, things we already knew about in the run up to TGS?

I suppose having a steady stream of game(s) each month for the next 6+ months is lot more healthier than the state the WiiU release schedule is in. So that should help...

Isn't that, for the most part, things we already knew?

I say it comes down more to context and positioning.

If Bloodborne and Type-0 were somewhat slated for late next year, the list immediately goes down the shitters.

But because both games in that list (exclusive system sellers for different reasons) are early 2015, and many high-profile cross-gen games are also in that similar time-frame, the advantages of those games strengthen the cross-gen games into potentially being a bigger PS4 system seller factor than if treated from a standalone standpoint.

Just mucking about. :p
I'm just wishing for a Direct after the Earnings(?) release in Oct.

I'm dying for the seemingly fictional Wii U blowout like a conference or a direct. As I said before, I missed the conferences of old, god the MH3 one in 2007 and the 3DS one in 2010 were gold.

I think it's less about confidence in sales but rather a clear picture of how committed publishers are to giving the system the best chance of a turn around. It's one thing to look at a release list and have a vague idea of the line-up, but it's another thing to see a strong push for a solid line-up of products at a big public event, with lots of game footage and playable demos, and knowing that most of the strongest products shown will all be released within the next 6 months, and many of them at around the same time.

It doesn't tell us anything we didn't already expect, but it's still one of the strongest showings of console life in Japan in the last couple of years. It basically reinforces what we already know, and solidifies the expectation that by March 2015 if the PS4 doesn't turn around, then the consumers have rejected the system.

PS3 Bayonetta 138,430 223,272 SEGA 2009-10-29
360 Bayonetta 66,211 118,165 SEGA 2009-10-29

For the US, I found this

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/27228/NPD_Bayonetta_MAG_Darksiders_Crack_January_Top_20.php

Bayonetta apparently released in January of 2010 in the US

Below are the top 20 charts for January 2010, as provided by NPD Group:

top-20-jan-2010.png

So Bayonetta US sales on PS3 < sales on 360 <<<< 171k

For its first month

No idea on other territories than the US and Japan though

I guess known quantities entering the foreseeable future does have benefit. Even a new trailer and playable demo for FFXV helps to solidify its software prospects.

RE: Wii U bundles. I'm expecting some sort of MK8 bundle for the holiday. And given that, I don't expect the title to reach the million mark prior to bundling.

Hope not, it's been a known bomb since years ago. At least in Japan, but probably in the West too.

But we'll probably see a lot of
"Bayo 2 did less than 50K?????" or "Bayo 2 did less than Bayo360??????"

as if it's surprising at this point.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
The Wii U + NSMBU + Wii Party U bundles were announced last year the 24th of September.

http://kotaku.com/these-japanese-wii-u-bundles-are-a-good-deal-1376085804

So can we expect Nintendo announcing new bundles next week?

I think it's time. The current unattractive Wii Sports bundle should be removed.
ASAP.

The bundles should be announced after the release of Bayonetta 2 & Fatal Frame 2 to get the inventory (stores) cleared, and have them readily available for the holidays, Q3,

i don't think wii u and ps4 comparisons make sense anymore, even wii > ps3 made more sense, since the wii and ps3 were actually active and sold decently, while the wii u's fate is sealed and ps4 will only continue to improve once the big games start coming out.

for the most part ps4 is competing more with the 3ds/mobile, since they're the only relevant platforms in japan these days.

whether the ps4 or wii u wins in the end won't matter much, since it won't be a landslide win and it won't change the the developers landscape either way, since we already know ps4 will be the one that gets the support while wii u will continue to be left in the cold.

I couldn't quite understand what he was saying, but the impression I got was that he thought the niche games were bad and only the 200K+ ones tended to be worth playing.

It seemed to be a game quality opinion post, but I need an angry-yelling-person-to-English translation box to be sure.

I think he means 3ds can only sell the biggest games, eg. the million sellers, while the rest only get scraps.

while ignoring the fact that 3ds besides mobile is the only platform these days that can even get a game to 1m

he's right to some extent, but 3ds shouldn't be the one to blame, its just how the market is these days, its the biggest games these days that get all the mindshare and marketing, the lost of the mid-tier is probably the biggest reason, and last-gen when the wii got so much shovelware.

Yep, if they had confidence, we'd see more ps4 releases by now and less cross-gen games, but because most third party games are heavily western focused these days, it just makes more sense to release cross-gen games, it gives them time to learn about ps4 hardware and to minimize risk, its less about even being confident and more about business sensibilities.

If Nintendo announces a Mario Kart 8 bundle for holidays I don't see how it would be possible for the title to sell another 300k in 2 months time before the bundle comes out.
