Well TGS is over want more pepeday? Be sure to tune in next weekend to see him in the 20on20 against team kanagawa

A bunch of other good players are going to be playing in this too, so I'm pretty excited for it. I think the Kanagawa team is scarier though lol. The Fukuoka team has players like Pugera, Pepedai, and Darui, but the Kanagawa team has players like Yossan, Reiketsu, and Zangitan.

So Fuerte is probably going to be returned to DJ tier now. =(

On Zhi: I can take racist jokes, but not when they come a mile a minute. He worked against the stream hype after a while, not for it.

Exactly, this is my biggest problem with Zhi, he takes away hype from the match with his jokes. I mean the chat was hyped for the match, then Zhi started making racist jokes and the chat started talking about the racist jokes, when the twitch chat is behaving better than the commentator you know there's something wrong.

And again, one thing is making clever jokes, another thing is making stupid jokes.
Arabs = terrorist jokes
Asians = something yellow
Smash = autism
Mexicans = running across the border
Women on stream = something creepy

Those are twitch chat level jokes and I would be fine even if he made them once or twice, but repeating them again and again is not funny nor clever.

It's not actually racist if he's making fun of everything, you know. He'd only be racist if he only made fun of certain ethnic groups in a particular and derogatory way.

Shooting the breeze and cracking jokes is not racist, and it's the centre of his commentary style - he knows a lot about the Asian scene and SF4 and he adds a lot of colour via his jokes. Zhi has one of the more polished styles in the FGC and that's something to commend him for, not deride him for. More people should try and have a unique style.

TGS this year matched up to how hype it was last year when Infiltration and Daigo got taken out early and Haitani went through a shitload of stressful sets in top 8 to win everything. A lot of really good matches and just crazy stuff in general. ; u ;

Really wish that they did more American coverage of overseas events, Markman said on stream they wanted to do more throughout the year than just a TGS thing so fingers are crossed.

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
There is no commentary in the world that could have brought down my enjoyment of this stream. The matches were among the best I've seen.

On an unrelated note...dat Inco Rufus.

Capitalized on nearly every opportunity he got. Clutch.

Pepe was more than ready to take on straight forward characters like Evil Ryu and Sagat. I think the only characters that would have given him trouble were more mix up heavy characters like Rufus. And that's why I think Inco did the best among everybody that we saw Pepe face. Inco could get in his face more easily and capitalize off of his mistakes where as Pepe was running circles around Kim, Daigo, and Bonchan. Bonchan should have sacrificed himself to get Kazunoko into GF's, he had the better character to chase down Fuerte.

As for Zhi, I enjoy his commentary and I find him funny. It's like a game trying to understand all the little references he throws out at us, the audience. But I also think he goes a little too overboard with some of the stuff. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if it was just a community event. But it's probably not appropriate for larger events or sponsored events like this one.

Don't even know if this is the right section, sorry guys...but is this thread worthy? Its DOA5 info

- DOA5 last round more advanced skin shaders and soft body physics exclusive to next gen
- TGS build at 65% completion
- Character models have been refined, much reduced jagged polygons and limb clipping
- 1080p/60fps for next gen versions
- Team Ninja's next game to focus much more heavily on PS4/Xbox One advancement

Is that last part referring to the DOA5 update or the next proper PS4/XB1 Team Ninja game?

If the latter then time to get HYPED for Ninja Gaiden 4!!!

Sounds like I missed a lot last night. Time to catch up.

Apparently the hitbox for rest was nerfed in too. That's pretty amazing.

Yeah I like Zhi for the references he makes sometimes, but other times I feel like if Kotaku was watching we'd probably be fucked worse than Cross Assault.

if Mad Catz put out a statement apologizing before it hits a gaming site it could help. Zhi does push it to the limit for what he says.

The latter, the game they ship after DOA5 last round. Hayashi said earlier that because DOA5 and previous recent games were based in PS3 and 360 development, they couldn't do all the things they wanted to do, but now they don't have to worry about that.

to those who were saying zhi was making a racist joke about q-bombing in baghdad, he's simply making a song reference to outkast - bombs over baghdad.

I'm not going to lie and say I haven't ever enjoyed Zhi's commentary, but the dude seriously needs a filter and a good talking to. Making off-handed remarks about Ferguson on the stream of a major FGC sponsor with 20,000+ people watching is not cool.

In all honesty I don't mind Zhi because I like that style of humour. As other have stated he is very knowledgable on the game and has a good confident level of speech. But I understand why people don't like him.

That being said, only 3 hours in and it's been a damn good show so far. That Zangief at the beginning. Justin Wongs Rufus. Daigo. This Nemo Rolento.
*back in another 2 hours*

I'd be a damned liar if didn't say I wasn't jealous of Zhi's off the cuff creative thinking capacities, though. If he doesn't do any creative writing or dabble in the arts at all, that's a shame.

If i had a company and needed someone who was as eloquent and well-versed in language and culture, i would hire Zhi on the spot.

Sure some of the things he says some people have a problem with, but from what i have seen zhi has a mastery of being able to come up with different topics on the spot.

everything from pop, classical, historic, and even scientific. i don't see someone who is going out of his way to offend. on the contrary, i see someone who is either well read or keeps up with current world events and tries to add a comedic flair to his commentating style.

you going to tell me that a singaporan videogame commentator who speaks 3 languages should even know about ferguson, us border issues, or french current events?

come on son, relax a little.

EDIT: although i do admit he has some next level thirst and needs to dial it down sometimes

Agreed.

As someone who defends James and David's commentary, while usually dry... we get good talk about the actual game, their are few alternatives to people like Zhi, who knows the game, and knows multiple cultures enough to make these funny, but his problem is he does not know when to stop. First time its like "heh, I got that joke" 50th time.... "ok thats enough."

I would rather not be like the events that let on randoms and we get people talking about completely unrelated personal shit on stream for hours that no one but the commentator and like 2 other people know about while matches play out.

I love Zhi's work. I do. He translates articles, that we would not other wise get and much more. But the guy is not a good commentator. If he could turn on the part of his brain that stopped his references from going to far, I would dare say he is the perfect co-commentator, but he can't and that's what makes him a problem for big events.

Sadly this comes up every time he is on stream, if people are going to let him on they really need to lay down the law on him if they feel its going to far.

Although I've only watched the Mike Ross vs Mago match so far, I have to say that while I liked some of Zhi's commentary on the game, I wasn't a fan of his commentary overall, it just felt too unfocused and him trying to be too referential and what-not, as others were saying. If he could be more focused on game commentary he could be really great, but I feel like he's trying to pander to the stream monsters sometimes and his commentary on the game is hurt because of it.

Thank YOU everyone who tuned in/shared the info and enjoyed the weekend's events at TGS. I am extremely exhausted and just settled into my hotel room (1:30 AM). It's been a long week. There's a lot of work that goes on here and it's not just the production you see. I was stuck in meetings/interviews and other things throughout the weekend. I am extremely proud of my team that helped make this happen. Sp00ky, Cameraman, Zhi and everyone else. GOOD SHIT.

This is on MarkMan for continuing to allow him on madcatz stream. His act gets old fast.

This is ON MarkMan? Please, Zhi is a big boy. He has an account here I think. If you have issues with him bring it up, just don't put shit on me. I was busy doing other things.

With Eliza, has Lab Zero finally delivered on all their crowd funding promises?(She's out right?)

Or is there more to go

All these kickstarter failures have made me curious how the big fighting game one turned out. Seems like it was one of the better planned/manged ones all things considered

I posted this last night, but it got buried.

According to Fooblat on Twitter, there were some pool/bracket shenanigans going on at GUTS this weekend.

So far @NerdJosh "upset" @RayRay19wun first round I think of pools; @NoelBHungry didn't pre register and is running late; status quo in CT.

Headed home from GUTS. What a shame. @nycfurby @teamspooky
https://twitter.com/Fooblat/status/513433186005950464
@Apex_AlexStrife @nycfurby @teamspooky noel got to game the system again. Not gonna be part of a tournament where that happens.
https://twitter.com/Fooblat/status/513450093828390912
When noel and kbrad get to register into the last set of pools you invalidate any seeding done before that. Then the only seeding...
https://twitter.com/Fooblat/status/513450441003524097
Only seeding that applies is that you splitting them up cause they are "traveling partners". At least kbrad registered and paid. Never noel.

They still have two more characters to go (Beowolf and Robo-Fortune), although they did throw in one unplanned (clone) character as well.

It really drives me nuts that most Kickstarters seem to intentionally underestimate costs, hoping they can get an early funding win (since no one wants to back a loser) and play games with stretch goals. I also suspect that Lab Zero did it the way they did because there really was no way the extra character(s) were happening without those funds.

I love it in principle, but the implementation of it in a lot of cases if egregiously bad. Ky's standard fireballs come to mind. Way too strict of an execution requirement just to open up that aspect of his game.

One of the best things to come out of the campaign was how transparent they were about the cost of developing fighting game characters. A cost I don't think many people realize when playing them. I mean even after the fact among you still see people trivialize what it means to add new characters to these games. Even among enthusiasts.( Three Arc announcements at TGS?? MUST BE THREE NEW CHARACTERS FOR XRD GET HYPE!!!)

I didn't back it because I'm not a fan of the game and am skeptical of crowd funding, but if they did something like this again for further development of the game I'm pretty sure I'd back it just based on how they've handled it the first time. They knew what the needed and don't seem to be calling it quits because it's taking longer than expected and things are getting hard.

Still two characters left, but it all seems on track. People were going crazy saying that no way a 2D character costs so much but after all these failures I wonder if people will finally understand that games are expensive to make, even indie ones.
