5) Mario Kart 8

Honorable mentions: Kirby Triple Deluxe, Diablo Reaper of Souls, Wolf, Walking Dead Season 2

i was looking back at the year. i didn't play a whole lot.

yoshi's new island, kirby triple deluxe, donkey kong country tf, mario kart 8, danganronpa, and i'm currently working through bravely default.

i would probably say mario kart 8. it's been a very slow year.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
would be destiny, but my excessive and major issues with dropped connections and lag in pvp ruin that. so, titanfall? when/if destiny gets sorted, i imagine it'll be a toss up between it, MCC, and horizon 2 --- though sunset overdrive may sneak into the mix as well. fucking stellar year for xbone.

Destiny probably would've been up there for me if endless error codes hadn't prevented me from playing more than a couple of hours. Had a fantastic time with the beta, though.

Probably inFamous: Second Son at this point, love that one a lot.

Other notables include Wolfenstein: The New Order, South Park: The Stick of Truth and Child of Light.

2) Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

4) Kirby Triple Deluxe
4) Dark Souls II

5) Drakengard 3

You have 10 games for your top 5.

If you're asking for my own personal GOTY based on what I've played for the first time this year it's Portal 2...

If we're strictly going on games that received a commercial release this year it's Ground Zeroes (if PT is out of contention for not been a finished game).

EDIT: then again, some people would argue that Ground Zeroes is a demo too.

Yeah. I went there.

Tlou:R, but actual new games it would be either Transistor, or Destiny. Was the story ever figured out for tranistor? People were beginning to unravel it in the OT but I don't know if that got anywhere.

Edit:

Stupid questions, but when are GOTYs usually released?
End of the year? Beginning of the new year?

It varies obviously depending on what your GOTY is but there is no correlation to end of the year hype into GOTY. Mass Effect 2 released in Jan, TLOU in June, and others mid year and end of the year.

Still waiting.

Same here. Honestly, this has been the most lackluster year in gaming that I can remember in a while. Too many remasters, the big AAA releases have disappointed me (Watch Dogs, Destiny). Don't get me wrong, it hasn't been bad, just nothing has blown me away. I have high hopes for October and November. Biggest standout has been Wolfenstein.

The games I´ve enjoyed the most this year were

Mario Kart 8, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Danganronpa and Donkey Kong Country TF .

If I had to choose, I´d go with MK8.

TLoU.

If we don't count remasters then Destiny which is fantastic and PACKED with content (don't know what the hell people are on about with it not having stuff to do)

Destiny Beta. :p

Seriously though, Destiny is going to win GOTY by a landslide. Feel free to come back and quote me at the end of the year.

Quality of game doesn't matter, it will win most of the GOTY's. I wonder if there will be a consistent runner-up

Oh and came here to see TLoU cuz GAF. Second post did not dissapoint

DKC TF. Seriously, one of the best games I've ever played and easily the best 2D platformer ever. I consider this Wii U's Galaxy, by being the premier game on the system and most likely near the top on the GOTG list. The controls, presentation, level design were outstanding.

I haven't played much games released this year as I still have a backlog. MK8 was fantastic in time trials or customized races. The cheap SP with items just takes it down a notch for me. MK has always been like that but I don't have the tolerance anymore for punishing better players and rewarding worse ones.

ISS is great as well. It's so polished. The traversial, the combat and the enemy encounters. Few things hold it back, such as the poor side missions, unskippable cutscenes, no day/night cycle. But the core gameplay was very well done. It's the type of game you can keep going back too for a long time.

It won't, never ever a game below >90 has won GOTY, critics at this moment would choose Dark Souls II.
