Have any of you seen these (Fatal Frame V / 零 ~濡鴉ノ巫女) videos yet; someone posted them to youtube, here's the links :)

In that first video, why do the ghosts have so much cleavage... You can't see it too much thankfully, but it's weird. The rest of that video has nothing of the sort though, so it was fine at least, and the playable character seems fine as well.

Also to those saying FF has never had wobbling, someone had posted that in the FF2: Wii remake, the twins could wear Zero Suit Samus costumes and there was quite a bit of it there on their behinds. It seems like generally you have to be looking for it, but it was there before at least in the remakes.

I've only played 30 minutes of Fatal Frame 5, and beat the first chapter so it's still not long enough to formulate a final verdict.

However, first it looks quite good! There's a mix of CGs and real time but both look really nice.
Second, and that's the point that still needs time to get used to, are the controls. I find them quite stiff while walking and, to a lesser extent, while photographing ghosts.
So I'll put a few more hours in tomorrow (because it's now 2.40AM and I'm tired) and see then if I got used to it or not.

As of now, the game wasn't scary, but as I said, I'm only 8% done mission-wise.

"Check was kind of mediocre. Decent paper, but slightly disappointing number of zeroes; no cool design. I wouldn't turn down a check like this, but it could have been for a higher amount."

No they can't.

Ruka gets a Zero Suit Samus outfit in Project Zero 4, but that's it.

Yeah the thing that rubs me the wrong way about 5 is the unnecessary fan service. Who plays FF games for this shit...no one so why is it there? Ghosts with their tits out, this whole wet and sexy thing......TK pls.

I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner, I mean Team Ninja loves to collab with other internal devs. Look at how many Musou games their characters are in and the recent collabs like Hyrule Warriors and Toukiden.

Not sure if this was a thing during Itagaki's reign though.

lol I'm pretty sure someone likes the fan service, this is not the first time Fatal Frame had any fan service the whole bikini and zero suit samus stuff says you have never see Fatal Frame lately

I caved in after all, downloading now! I had to delete a few games off the HDD though :x

I know the feeling. I wanted the physical version, but I didn't have enough for it and Bayo2, so I got them both digitally and had enough cash left over for Wonderful 101 (thank you, Nintendo's digital promotion).

Anyway, I haven't really played the game yet, per say, I've basically skipped the event scenes, and skipped through text to have a good look at the gameplay, and here's a few bits (I think I've avoided major spoilers, but I'll spoiler just in case):
Areas
- The first real area that isn't introducing you to the controls or the camera is absolutely huge
- The entire area looks wonderful, and some features like a stony path really impressed me, as well as the water

Items
- The first main area is littered with items, scraps of paper/notes, as well as healing items, items to dry you, and film.
- After around 10-20 or so item pick ups I only encountered a ghost hand once (the one that tells you about ghost hands)

Ghosts
- Ghosts can be annoying and unpredictable, and take quite a few shots to kill
- I was trying to take a screenshot of a small lake/pond, and a ghost appeared, it ended up taking around half of my life
- While I was then trying to figure out which button opened the menu that lets you use healing items (Y opens this menu, start/+ lets you change a few options, or go back to a checkpoint/mission select) I opened the camera by mistake (X button) and a ghost was in my face out of nowhere, I got knocked down on the ground and taken to red health

Wetness
- Walking through water below your shorts doesn't seem to get you wet (not sure if it'll be different with different characters/costumes or not)

Difficulty
- As well as the rather mean ghosts above ruining my little photo shoot, I was attacked by groups once or twice (3 at once, then 2). I had to move around a lot to avoid them, and get shots of multiple ghosts at once. Getting several ghosts in one shot is really satisfying.
- When you're damaged severely, movement is very difficult. You can't run, and essentially walk as if your legs are in agony.
- Missions can be played on either Easy or Normal on a first playthrough, if you play on Easy you won't get scored on the mission
- If you give up on a mission and return to mission select, any items you found, or any that you bought when starting the mission are lost, but you keep any points earned from photos, and your ghost list carries over - EDIT: It seems items are reset even if you clear a mission. Items used will lower your score

Bought a Wii U for the game and picked it up today. Waited until night time and started it up for the first time.

So far my impressions are both positive and negative. The game itself is pretty stunning and could be creepy.

But the use of the pad actually takes me out of the game. Maybe for something like Mario in a well lit room it's different, but when attempting to play a horror game in the dark it's a bit like a cell phone in a movie theater. The camera effect is cool to a degree, but it's not worth it. It's really too bad there isn't the option to play the game in classic mode with the pro controller, unless it's simply missing the gyros to make it work properly. I find myself clutching the controller close to my chest so that I can't see the screen.

It doesn't help that the controller's screen is much brighter and completely different in color tones (what should be a cold, dark game is all warm, sunny tones with the poor screen on the Wii U's pad).

Hopefully I can get used to the set up so I don't feel like I'm constantly being distracted from the game ... by the game.

You do know you can turn the brightness down, right? I always play on the lowest setting anyway.

So, I got a bit more time with the game tonight:

I agree with Zenaku, the first real area (2nd chapter's) is really huge for only ONE dot on the overall map.

The controls I'm still not 100% a fan of, but I think it handles way better than my first impression left me to think.

I felt that overall the mission was quite good, nice atmosphere throughout. There was tension, that's for sure, but I wasn't..."Fatal Frame 1/2" scared at all if you know what I mean. There were not so fun themes thrown out in this chapter, like
mass suicide
and
being forced to cut one's own throat
.
The game is quite good looking, especially the character models are impressive. And the lighting is also really well done.

So for mission 3 onwards, I hope the scariness levels will skyrocket. If they do, it's going to be a sweet ride I'm sure!

But there aren't separate brightness options of the screen and for the tablet, unless I'm mistaken. I can't find settings from Nintendo to alter the brightness of the tablet either.

Pressing the home button, you can adjust the gamepad's screen brightness. It really bugged me with Wind Waker, but after adjusting it, the tablet experiente turned out ok to me.

Oh, and I thought my Rank S was awesome...turns out there's at least Rank SS...which means a chance for SSS to exist too.

Just finished Chapter 4, and will play 5+ after I've eaten.

Home -> Controller settings.

Oh and one more thing, it's not a tablet. Just a controller that happens to have a screen. (Sorry, huge pet peeve of mine)

An update on the framerate, based on the 4th Chapter:

95% of the time so far, I've had no visible problems. Only when taking out the camera and moving a lot, quickly, with multiple ghosts have I got frame drops (however, it lasts at most ONE second so yeah).

Just made it to Chapter 2 in Zero 4. Misaki is pretty much wearing clothes that look like what the Zero 5 clothes look like when they're absolutely drenched in water, see through wise.

Started playing V recently, quite liking it so far, but then I've never disliked a single game in the series.

- I have to echo what some here have already said though: it's not scary AT ALL so far (I just reached Chapter 3), and ghosts take quite a bit of damage before they go down.
They also appear in groups of 2 or 3 very early in the game, which I seem to recall only happened later in the previous games.

- Graphics are great. Was really looking forward to seeing this series with more modern graphics, and it does not disappoint.

- Great atmosphere too. Kind of reminds me of Fragile on Wii. But with actually good gameplay.

- Initially, I was worried about this game having a Mission structure, but it's still very much a linear and story-driven game, it's just that this new structure lets you replay chapters and do score attacks/speed-runs more easily, so it ends up working out for the better.

- Your inventory is reset for each chapter. That is, you start each chapter with a fresh batch of items (you can spend points to buy more), and at the end of the chapter, your remaining inventory is converted into points, which go towards your score for that chapter.
It kinda sucks that your stuff is taken away, but you never have to worry about going into a new mission underprepared.

- New combat system takes a lot of getting used to. It feels more complicated/complex than the previous games.

I have no idea how I missed this thread until today, being that FF is by far my favorite horror series. Tempted to replay them now.

It's amazing because you don't have to replay the entire game if you missed a spirit photograph.
the kind of people who don't like bloomers or gym clothes
Ehhhhh those are boring to me.

So has any seen the credits of FF5 to see if maybe an outside company helped with it, or was it indeed a solo effort by the FF team?

Asking since FF4 was at least co-developed by Grasshopper, not sure about FF2 Wii, think that was a solo effort as well.

IIRC it only had 4 subsidiary KT divisions working on it.
