Now I want to climb that mountain. Do an open world Motorstorm next Evo please.

Anyone fancy playing DRIVECLUB this Saturday at Evolution?

Well if you can make it to Cheshire (UK) then send me a PM and I'll see if I can get you an invite.

How about you send me a copy and we can Skype while I'm playing. It'll be like I'm really there!

What are you comparing it to? I think it's pretty damn good.

The other two 1080p 30fps racers from this gen (Rivals being closer in IQ to Driveclub, and FH2 being quite a bit above it), and just 1080p PS4 games in general really. I don't think game game has BAD IQ. It's just good, nothing great, certainly nothing incredible.

What are you talking about? Some random site uploaded the video, big deal. Probably some promotional clip. Evo have provided us with gameplay footage non stop since this games inception, and yet again they've offered up a whole new batch of high quality capture via Gamersyde, something barely any other publishers are doing. I don't see the outrage here. One video doesn't change that.

What I don't understand is where did the video come from? Why does it exist? Who was meant to see it?

I haven't been following the thread closely enough so I'm genuinely asking, and I made sure to emphasize that my call to outrage was conditional on the facts which I did not yet understand.

It looks a lot better than any of those games and the IQ is still excellent so I'm not sure where it's leading us to.

It doesn't have the pristine IQ of the downsampled screen on top, but I can deal with this. I'd say it's good enough to do the amazing visuals justice.

Putting Forza killer on the trailer was stupid. It may get attention to them, but stupid anyway. I despise this type of marketing.

Also, they better have something really great, otherwise I can already see this statement being brought back for joke for a quite long time.

I'll admit I don't have the sharpest eye for this kind of stuff but when quotes from Digital Foundry from a 4 month old build of the game are like "The game's 1080p resolution is put to effective use too, producing one of the cleanest grades of image quality on PS4." I was expecting the IQ to be top notch when it releases.

Heh, seems that the video was also color-corrected to make the colors pop out more (which is usual practice in video production), that probably contributes to the difference as well. I think the in-game IQ looks absolutely fine too.

Could this be a case of the time of day lighting making the environments look better than the other? I dont see any jaggies on the cars in either pic.

Thanks.

Made a quick comparison.

Top is Gamersyde video, bottom is PR downsampled(?) video.

Nice comparison.

You're basing that off of videos (mostly with a lot of motion blur), albeit high quality one's. It's still going to look considerably crisper on your set, and in the PNG compression free captures people post.

IQ is pretty much comparable to NFS Rivals based on video capture grabs.

What am I missing here? The bottom shot is a different time if day, but you can still see the sheen reflection on the paintwork in the bumper. The background looks the same and the power line too. I'm on my phone tho!

Do you get to pick what your hands look like?

Can I have dinosaur hands?

An absurd suggestion, a Tyrannosaur for example would have terrible driving abilities what with its notoriously short arms they would have difficulty reaching the wheel much less the gear stick. :)

Finally got chace to watch some of the new footage, my god this looks pretty. I wasn't going to grab anything else in the coming month what with Destiny and Civ Beyond earth but I may treat myself to the full version of DC too.

If the second one had a softer shadow maybe, but as it is and compared to the first picture, I don't think so

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
any videos showing the car customization menu yet? The accolade stickers etc?

Yeah, I did further research and found them to be quite comparable IQ wise, so I edited out the "but a bit better" part earlier.

They look quite close IQ wise. Obviously the top is still better (no aliasing at all, no dithering, shadows not quite as good, etc) but it's closer than I thought it was going to be, so I was impressed enough to show a comparison.

The in-game IQ looks fine, but it's not quite in line with the impression some of the advertising materials gave. Which "merely" leaves us with a fast-paced, great looking racer with a low bar of entry and strong community tools. I think we'll live, lol.

On a more technical note, if you want a real sense of the IQ/Texture filtering, just a still image without the car moving would be the best indication. Many of the early trailers that were in-game/engine gave moments like these.

Driveclub gameplay from video capture vs super sampled gameplay from video capture. No sharpness or anything added, only contrast and colour adjusted to better match super sampled gameplay.

Time of day is still different, but otherwise you can see how comparable actual gameplay still is.

The car in the top pic has more reflections, and whatever they did to the color creates a better sense of depth to the scene, IMO. Maybe it can all be attributed to time of day, but I don't think so. So far all the vids of the retail release have looked slightly flatter than I was expecting based on the best stuff we've seen of the game. The differences in IQ do seem to be minor, though.

Would you mind throwing up the original version without the contrast/color correction? I'm sort of curious. The difference in reflection quality is pretty blunt. Also, you can see the difference in motion-blur quality from the artifacting in the bushes to the left and right.

This proves time of day does make a difference. Some people need to leave this thread already.

It's a diff car/paint...

This one from the same set of screenshots has similar reflections

It's just a different scene with different times of the day. You could have the same scene and the same reflections on the bottom, it's the same game.

Basically, I agree with your conclusion, the differences in IQ are minor, so it's once again a lot of noise for nothing.

IQ is basically great and it's the most beautiful racer ever, that's all that matters.
