Do you think Mr Gies hates it when he sees hes a lone despairing voice shouting in a tidal wave of approval or is he just deliberately screaming for attention.

Lol at the gamespot negative.

I don't even want to give them click, but how in the world is "over-sexualizing" worth taking any points at all, let alone over 2?
well bayonetta hasn't been shy of sticking tits and ass right in your face. So if thats not your thing, it makes sense that it could hurt your overall enjoyment of something even if the game is objectively stellar.

I don't play many such games, certainly never the original. Theoretically I should enjoy something so well-made, but I detested Mad World.

Will I detest Bayonetta?

Reviewers mention 8-12 hours, about 10 average. It's shorter than the first...BUT...

...looks like Bayonetta 2 is more refined with better environment variety, grander set pieces, and just more post-game content.

The first one did kind of drag a couple of hours and felt less refined. And it was still a darn good game!

I guess a more refined, toned down to the best parts for a game is better than more unneeded hours of sloggy gameplay!

Man, Platinum continuing the great work by once set by Clover. Look at that track record: God Hand, Okami, Bayonetta 1 + 2, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising.

Hey, so, my thoughts.

First, here's my review.

I love me some character-action games, and I recognize Bayonetta as one of the best and deepest in that genre. But I'm also sort of over this kind of game. We've been playing these types of things for a while now, and I don't think Bayonetta 2 does too much to totally rejuvenate this style.

But that's about the worst thing I can say about it. I loved my time with it, and I think that Bayonetta is just the coolest fucking person in a video game, movie, book, or comic right now.

Just finished reading, great review!

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
The first i saw a stream from the jap version i knew this games reviews will be good.

It looked fucking amazing and i was surprised how much variety in level design there is.

Also, the soundtrack is amazing and i'm not talking about the jazzy songs, i'm talking about the epic chor tracks!

THE WITCH IS BACK!

Will definitely pick this up when i buy a Wii U.

Mad World is quite repetitive compared to Bayonetta. Bayonetta is all about combat variety. You rarely should be doing the same combos over and over since the game encourages you and gives you more than enough tools to mix things up.

I don't know but Polygon is just hilarious. Do they even care about the game itself or are they a new PETA kind of organization controlled by Oprah fighting for women rights?

It's someone's fucking opinion. Personal emotion reaction to an inherently subjective thing. He liked the game. Grow up.

Your PETA Oprah comment is amazingly ignorant as well.

Here's my review in Dutch (made a quick translation of the conclusion in English)

4Gamers 91/100

The queen of the action games is back. Bayonetta 2 manages to impress in almost every aspect with a combination of non-stop action, adrenaline, a bit of naughtiness and really responsive controls. The story and atmosphere might not suit everyone, but even the biggest pessimists will have to recognize that in terms of gameplay this game is among the best. With Bayonetta 2, the developers have succeeded in making the game very accessible for newcomers, while maintaining the depth of it for the hardcore gamers. Future action games will have a hard time topping this, because Bayonetta 2 managed to push the bar very high for this genre. If you didn't have a reason to buy a Wii U, then Bayonetta 2 is an excellent one to do so.

I don't want to second-guess review scores for a game I haven't played, but one can't help but be a little bothered by Arthur Gies (straight white male privileged whatever, if you care about that sort of thing) come out against a form of sexualization that numerous feminists have openly praised for letting the woman define her femininity on her own terms.

I'll be honest: Bayonetta's aesthetic would have turned me off the game were I not aware of the Platinum action pedigree and had I not played the outstanding demo. But seeing self-declared feminist activists speak in favour of it gave me pause for thought. I would never presume to speak for them.

I take it you'll be giving every FPS game released a 6/7 as we've seen them done for a while?... :)

I may have misread something but literally the only two criticisms I saw were the over-sexualizing of Bayonetta and a contradiction between reviving teammates and scoring points in co-op. Those are worth 2.5 points?

You guys know reviews don't start at a 10 and points are deducted from there... right?

That being said, the "over-sexualization" of the game really hurt this dude's experience with the game. Which seems crazy to me, personally. Like... if the game plays so great, I don't get how that can hurt the experience so severely. Whatever.

It's a little more than that when developer bonuses are often directly tied to Metacritic scores. We're talking about people's livelihoods.

So reviewers should give good scores based on things outside of the actual content in the game? Oh boy.

I love Platinum's action games so it's good to see this getting highly rated. Only a couple of weeks to wait for my 1st print edition.

But if that's not he's thing and he's going to knock points off of, then he may as well let someone else review it. It's a ridiculous reason to take so many points off.

Platinum games feeling like

The sad thing with Platinum is pretty much all their games review well but sales wise it's pretty poor :/

Bayonetta 2 in japan had a very slow start, they deserve better.

Polygon seems like they want to be a premiere outlet for criticism, by sacrificing a game's score to make a point about a larger issue. If Bayonetta 2 was released in a hypothetically perfect world, they'd likely give it a 9 or 10. But since representation is still an issue, and they feel this game is an offender - it must be the sacrificial lamb for greater progress.

It's a theory that may be appealing to some types, but doesn't do much in the way of consumer advocacy.
