If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
They'll probably just stick to their standard engine since that's what they're comfortable with. I want to see it happen since Rising was basically them working at breakneck speed to get the game out at a specific time. So it'd be great to see what they can do with a regular development schedule.

It's their best selling game. It's actually the second best selling character action game ever in Japan. Only trailing the original DMC.

How they managed to make a great action game in such a short time is beyond me. Imagine this, you're working on other games and suddenly a guy like Kojima comes to you and ask if you can make this game. I mean they had to change everything and suddenly focus on a completely other game. PG are one of the best, only a few could have pulled this off.

Woah really? i knew it sold well but not THAT well wow.

Bayonetta 2 |OT| A literal stripper pole for Bayonetta to dance on
Bayonetta 2 |OT| Broken out of it by another cheap shot of T&A

This is going to end up with a below 90 metascore because of brain dead reviews like Polygons. Yes, the scores do matter, don't try and ruin a game's success because of your stupid irrelevant opinions that don't relate to the game's quality at all. Saddens me.

Lol Bayonetta 2 is going to 2014's Uncharted 3. These comments are already sounding ridiculous.

wow guise is this really happening

wow

so much hype

not since casuls of war and Ninja Gaiden Black for Japanese devs since a character action game has received a meta in the 90s

hypeeeeeee

GTAV received a 7 from one site, and it still has a 97 Metacritic. A single 7.x or even a couple won't impact its overall score all that much as long as most are 9's and 10's (which is the case right now).

I doubt Bayonetta will have the universal appeal of ALBW. This 10 is just a case of the reviewer and the game matching perfectly. That said at least this means the game will be included in the discussions.

I think Dragon Age: Inquisition is the only upcoming game that could potentially block B2 from winning quite a few GotY awards. Overall this year has been one of disappointments for major releases as far as reviews go. Which is going to open the door for unexpected picks. Similar to 2012 when Journey and The Walking Dead were winning them. Although that was more about a lack of major releases.

We gave it a 8.
(Hungarian language). The summary is if that if you know what you are getting into and are a fan of the genre, you will love it.

I did not score it, but if I had to, I would have given it a 9. A few issues that stop it from being a 10, but besides those, it is an absolutely fantastic game that manages to differentiate itself wildly from its predecessor, while also connecting to it at the same time.

Who said game reviews have to be in the realm of consumer advocacy? Chill out. It's one game looking deeper into the game beyond "OMG awesome." The game will still get it's precious high Metacritic scores.

Don't get me wrong - there's undoubtedly a place for critical reviews like Gies' piece in the larger conversation. You need somebody willing to put a game in the context of the industry, to bring light to those issues.

I think the bigger issue is that right now, consumers (and enthusiasts) see game reviews as an objective analysis of a game's merit. That's what it's always been, and that's what some people think it should be. In threads like this, that's what people expect. So the reaction to the 7.5 makes sense. It's not a fair analysis of the game. It's an analysis of the game, and what it means for gaming in 2014. A statement that is no less important, but out of place when we think of a game review.

Had Polygon just published an editorial column from Gies focusing on his opinions with Bayonetta's characterization, that would have been miles more effective in getting the point across. But instead, it's just hard anger because the game now has a (slightly-less-than-brightest-green) blemish on its' Metacritic page.

Bayonetta 2 |OT| Don't Miss Me Too Much

Really glad Bayonetta and Platinum are receiving the praise and recognition that they deserve. Hopefully the GOTY for many publications.

Well after playing the demo, i'm not surprised by these scores, the game feels incredible to play, and the story seems very fun.
It has certainly trumped all other games i was prioritizing on getting, this year.

Subtitle: There is no more excuse for not owning a Wii U

The English snippet on Metacritic..

Buy it if you liked the first one. Buy it, if you love it. Buy it if you love video games. Buy a Wii U if you have to. Bayonetta 2 sings all its praises in a celebration to this hobby of ours. But don't make the mistake of not playing it.
All over my face!

The only way for game reviews to grow past the Consumer Reports mentality is stuff like giving Bayonetta 2 or say, Call of Duty a 7.5 or frankly, giving something like Gone Home a 10 despite it's lack of whiz pow graphical hardware.

There'd be anger at Gies whatever he says because of his reputation on the Internet. If it was in an editorial, there'd be some idiot saying "see, that evil SJW is trying to paint everybody who liked Bayonetta 2 as a sexist!" or something along those lines. Either way, he can't win, so why not put in the review?

According to who? You? Yet, you are already throwin a pissy fit about a score for a game you haven't even played yet? Yeah, ridiculous.

So much this. This happens every single time a game receives hugely positive scores before anyone in the public has actually played it.

Man, I love action games and Bayo 2 sounds right up my alley. I just don't have the cash to buy a Wii U at the moment though. Too bad.
