Bayonetta 2 Review Thread - Metacritic: one billion-hit combo, buy it kids

I meant a production demo. Pretty much the full game. Just think people should temper their expectations a bit because all these 95/100% scores are going to lead to a major let down when they play the full game.

if this game comes anywhere close to matching Wonderful101's insanity.

I think we will be alright

That's not at all what I said. I played what was nearly the entire game, on hard. It has a lot of flaws in game design and story that are going to be a big let down for people living on 100% ratings.

Well most of the reviews admit the story is dumb/bad, but tell us about these game design flaws everyone seemed to miss.

First Wii U game to get my attention since I first heard about it. I am happy for it, but upset at same time since I supported it last-gen. Split on getting a Wii U since there are NO other games I'm interested in at this time.

This is a developer that for the most part has delivered on all of their releases (Anarchy Reigns being the most notable exception in terms of letdown) and nothing about Bayonetta 2 indicates it's going to be a let down the likes of something like Watch Dogs. It's getting universal praise from games media and everyone who has played the Japanese version, whereas Watch Dogs had middling reviews and mixed early impressions.

Unless you mean story, which is completely secondary in a game like Bayonetta. It's all about the gameplay for games. If a game has a bad story, it's ignorable (I will rightly criticize any story where the developers tout how good their story is, though) but if a game has bad gameplay, that's unavoidable no matter what because it's a videogame.

Sell the Xbox.

Literally 0 people give a shit about Bayonetta's story, dawg.

Couldn't be more wrong

Yeah a demo that was a good representation of the core gameplay and what Bayonetta 2 is supposed to be for new players looking at it for the first time. I don't see how a solid demo is a reason to lower my expectations.

But

You realize it's been out for like a month, right? Other people have played it. People in this thread, asking you what you're talking about, to boot.

So you are saying your personal opinion is that it's not that great so we will all think it's not that great??

Such has? Other than the water and flying sections, and that's not a deal breaker, I don't see it.
I heard the ending might be slightly disappointing.

The longer you play, the more half baked and auto pilot the combat gets. To make up for it, there are massive spikes in AI cheapness that Nintendo wouldn't have signed off on even in the NES days.

AI cheapness shouldn't be a factor if the combat is autopilot. It's like hating FF13 for auto-battle but not being able to beat the postgame missions with the same mechanic.

Have you played the first game? As for "story" as a flaw, almost no one--and I can confidently speak for most of GAF--cares in this case. We're not exactly expecting Cormac McCarthy.

Am I right to assume you must got a lot of Gold and Platinums on your first trip then, since the combat was so auto pilot and half-ass that anybody could do it? Maybe be more specific in your criticisms and we can understand what you're saying.

Can you give some specific examples of "AI cheapness"? Bayonetta is usually quite good at visually and audio warning you about attacks before they happen, and they give you a fully invincible dodge with a big window for slow motion upon completion. Its usually quite fair.

Are you talking about the Japanese ver. Which has already been released? :/

I can list a dozen significant flaws with Bayo1 and still consider it the best game I've ever played. The numerous brilliant things are just that damn brilliant.

I think I'm getting this digitally so I can have an awesome action game available at any time. I don't even care about the hilariously large download size; got plenty of external HDD space open!

haven't been paying attention to this until recently.

Is bayonetta 1 being with the game a limited time thing or permanent part?

not sure if I can budget this atm.

Pretty sure it's permanent for NA and Japan.

Not sure about Europe, since they have multiple versions of the game.

On the danish gamereactor review the only con they could give the game is literally "envious xbox and playstation owners".

While I'm glad the game got a 10/10 score, I think the above statement is a bit.. Unnecessary.

That said, there doesn't seem to be any comments about Nintendo paying for high scores.

The internet has to put up with envious statements on mass for 2 years now,it's a fair and factual point lol

Is this game really that good? (serious question)

Given the (extremely) low profile of the WiiU and that Nintendo is actually publishing the game, it reeks of publisher money...

The last game got a 90 Metacritic and it was published on Xbox and PS3

so its either cross-console publisher money, or the game might just be really good.

Bayonetta 1 was regarded as one of the best action games of the generation in 2009 and it wasnt on a Nintendo system. The game is legitimately great as most people say it is if you are into the character action games. I've seen the game convert people into believers after making them try the demo and Bayo 1 on Xbox.

Why would Nintendo pay for all these good reviews and forget to send a cheque to polygon?
