SO has some really nice graphical effects, but the IQ is pretty rough. Game is still so good though and I love the colors.

I switched between inputs on my TV playing Infamous Second Son and Sunset Overdrive about an hour ago, and the difference in visuals, both graphical fidelity and image quality, was HUGE (relatively speaking). I couldn't believe it, because before I did the little comparison I was finding myself impressed by SO's visuals.

Which is weird because IMHO Insomniac>Sucker Punch when it comes to tech chops (at least in previous gens), we'll just have to wait for Ratchet PS4 to judge them on even footing.

I guess it just comes down to the hardware that both of those devs have to work with this gen. You may have the upper-hand in the tech department, but you're limited by the hardware you work with.

Sucker Punch surely stepped their game up this gen. One of the reasons might be that now all Sony WWS are sharing tech info and tools with each other unlike previous gens.

Not at all. Insomniac was competent with the PS2. From there, it was all downhill. Infamous 2 blew every IG effort out of the water. Especially IGs Art departement is completly off since R2. The Ratchets were solid, they know that one, but that's it.

They were a strong, quick starter with PS3 too but after Tools of Destruction they started falling behind the other PS3 dedicated western studios.

Dang, Bayo 2 is night and day in screens and in motion. Wish more Wii U games had a photo mode, given how easy it is to capture.

The Unfinished Swan, on the other hand, is like point-and-shoot artwork in stills. Really nice.

SO looks rough as fuck.

The color is nice and the art direction is spot on but damn, low quality textures, three tier shadows, low poly models and environments, jaggies everywhere.

Not what I was expecting from the R&C devs at all :/

I loved The Unfinished Swan, especially the first level was great where it was totally new an you couldn´t see anaything.

A few Shadow of Mordor screens. I really like the game, despite some (minor) flaws.

Aha! I knew this game had no colors!
Sacre boo.

But yeah, it looks good to me. I don't really get all the negativity. Outside of the graphical showcases this gen (Infamous, Ryse, Killzone), it looks pretty in line with other games in terms of Aliasing and IQ to me, just with a bit more color I guess.

A few people are mentioning how bad the IQ is in sunset overdrive, saying its blurry and pixelated. I'm a MASSIVE fan of insomniac, particularly the Ratchet and Clank series, and even I can admit that their games on PS3 had an extremely blurry and ineffective AA solution. Crack in Time in particular would strain my eyes after long periods of play... Still finished it 5 or 6 times and still play it as part of my annual Ratchet series run through. And sunset overdrive still has that beautiful art style that insomniac is known for too.

Have to agree that still shots do not do the game justice. That's the case with a lot if not all Wii U games though. They look great in motion but taking a single frame and a lot is lost.

Exactly what I was thinking when viewing your pics. The first two shots look so much nicer on my TV when in motion. The buildings in the background look especially bad in screenshots.

I don't know how you're trying to assess whether it be 1080p with a heavily compressed and downscaled image like that.
Normally the PS4 screens look much cleaner than that, even with a compressed picture (just look at other PS4 screens, e.g. Shadow of Mordor).

But as it was stated, its an issue with the screen. Just 540p or so...

That's mindblowing. How come the PS3 can do better AF?

Someone posted a good explanation in another thread why AF is not as easy on consoles as most people think, reading that made sense at the time but when games like this don't even have good AF I'm not so sure anymore it has anything to do with hardware limitations. It almost seems like devs don't care or they want to but can't do anything about it because of reasons.
