Halo |OT 20| It really does feel like Halo

I still really like this remake, but why would they model the map layout on Asylum instead of Sanctuary? Been bugging me since its first reveal.

How much difference is there really?

Halo 5 should have paid armor sets and skins and free map packs. I would actually pay for armor if the maps were free just to support that model.

I've said this so much, they really, really need to do this.

Sure at first there would be some bad press. Including microtransactions is always negative, however if they prelude announcing paid armour by saying that maps will be free I don't think it would go down too badly.

We'd also get free maps which is awesome.

Dang that blows. Yeah if I remember right I got this and within a week or so I had a dead pixel. Freaked out, restarted it and it was still there. Shut it off, waited a few hours, then turned it back on and the pixel was working again. Haven't had a problem since. Until today.

Really distracting.

Is it actually dead, or is it just stuck? If it's stuck, you've got a pretty decent chance of being able to fix it. Either way, give these a shot:I would recommend trying both if needed, and I'd let them run overnight. You can also try gently pressing/rubbing with your thumb on the area where the pixel is. You can try this both while using the monitor regularly and while running those repair cycles. If you really drive your thumb into the panel you'll break it, but as long as you only using a moderate amount of force (just enough to make the surrounding area bleed or ripple a little as you press), you'll be good.

Minor things, really, but it and Bloodline makes me wish that MS would have sent a little more money CA's way so they could have a larger team and bring some more maps based on the Reach versions. Ivory Tower, Headlong, Beaver Creak, hell they could even bring over Hang 'em High and make the modifications needed to make it a Tombstone remake. Oh well, what's done is done and we can at least make some kick ass forge remakes of maps that didn't make the cut.

THAT TRAITOR! HOW DARE HE JOIN THE COVENANT!

Yep, it ruins the online population too, matchmaking, playlist structure, splintered communities, etc. It's just terrible all around, better to find other ways to monetize your MP that doesn't have such a drastic effect on the population playing it.

You can also potentially start bringing in those F2P MMO profits without really screwing anyone over. I'll admit it even though I know it only takes a few rounds of play I've gambled with $1 in PvZ and ME3 and I know PvZ is seeing A LOT of success with its model and Halo could adapt it too pretty easily.

Maybe do it so armor is unlocked via points or put a Monster Hunter spin on it where you can buy "material" packs with points or buy them. Also some armor will only be able to be made at different levels so you can bring the EXP system for that but also keep the Skill Based ranks of the MCC as your main rank.

I would be ALL for the Monster Hunter spin on it.

I'm on board with this.

I really doubt it'll happen, but my biggest dream is for Joe Staten to do some serious cleaning up now he's back at Microsoft. They should drag Nylund back from Amazon too whilst they're at it.

I have your avatar pic on my debit card.

Still waiting for my early unlock code, must have gotten lost in the mail, I'm sure its coming..
For halogaf newbs, I'm being facetious

Bloodline is also Hemorrhage's geometry.
Yeah, but they added / changed so much with that one I wouldn't say it's really based on either of them.

The biggest for me and the thing that first stood out was the cliffs and places where you could fall off. The original Sanc is fully enclosed and symmetrical. This is, to use an accursed phrase, "functionally symmetrical". Blue's carbine side is open, where Red's is a wall. Blue's back turret area is a cliff and Red's is a wall. There are other minor changes and they added a couple jumps (which I'm actually ok with), but these are essentially ripped from Asylum. How does this impact gameplay? As a random example, Red team has less surface area on offense to use for rocket explosions. How big of an impact that is is debatable, but for a map known for its symmetrical origins and gameplay, it just bugs my nitpicking side to death.

I suppose I should just be happy one base doesn't have the advantage of shooting through walls like Asylum? idk.

EDIT: Another example is one base is more vulnerable to grenades compared to the other, and there's more grenade options for bouncing off the walls. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure the courtyards aren't the same either.

Oh this looks good. I'll try this later tonight, thank you very much.

Wow dude doesn't even know who Beamish is what a terrible excuse for a Halo fan.

Ah well, they're only very small issues IMO.

Honestly, I think the benefits from an aesthetic point of view outweigh the minor issues.

These small issues are the things that make or break maps. Shooting through the plasma pistol wall on Asylum broke the map. Being able to hide behind the carbine ramp on one side only broke the map. These are the things that, at higher level play, piss people off. It's why Solace had to be forged to be usable for 2-sided objectives.

Honestly, I think the benefits from an aesthetic point of view outweigh the minor issues.
This is a terrible way to judge things. Gameplay should always outweigh prettiness. And personally, I thought the original looked great anyway.

I agree completely...The original style looked great and felt really good. I'm sure there will be people accidentally falling off on one side.

Why can't we have both? Does one side really need to be an open cliff? Why not have one side covered in waterfalls and the other in rocks? Or one side be covered in moss and the other in ruins?

I wonder how the marketing for Halo 5 will go, I hope they don't go quiet after the Beta and wait for E3, waiting 5 months after the beta for new stuff would be hell.

Dude I'm so pumped for the Halo 5 multiplayer reveal on November 10th. So awesome that they are hiring pros and having some face off against eachother to demonstrate the game.

Dey bee doin sumtin rite

The way they talked about the game in the Gamescom video combined with the way that they are revealing it makes me really feel like they truly understand what they did wrong in Halo 4 and are going to fix it.

The silent crap they did with Halo 4 was stupid. There needs to be constant communication between the end of the beta to E3 and then E3 to launch.

Yes, the silence with Halo 4 leading up to E3 drove me batshit. We got a Gameinformer article and a vague ViDoc telling us sort of what they were kind of doing with some shots of multiplayer. That was it!

My explanation is that every single piece of Halo lore since 343 took over has been part of a random simulation Cortana has been running to keep herself entertained whilst she's stuck on the Forward Unto Dawn.

As someone who was super-into all the books and stuff during the Bungie years, everything 343 has done with the storyline makes me want to weep. Halo 4 was far from perfect gameplay-wise, but I'm pretty optimistic that they'll rectify things going forwards. The lore though... that's just irrevocably fucked.

You've actually got it backwards. During the Bungie years, nothing from the books mattered. Like, at all. Now that 343's in charge, we've actually got a chance of seeing Blue Team in game! How freaking cool is that?

Isn't there going to be a bit more in the H2A documentary they're streaming tomorrow?

There better not be any Trust Us™ or Soon™ statements in 2015. 343 says they understand what they did wrong with the game, but are they going to actually fix their communication?

Yeah that footage is crazy dark
Hopefully that's not how its supposed to look...

Could just be the One's crushed blacks in play.

I miss the Bungie ViDocs.
The single greatest thing about Halo 3 pre-release were those ViDocs. If we got those, along with weekly playtests on Twitch leading up to Halo 5's launch, Halo's multiplayer would be loved before it's even released.

Killer Instinct did it right and what's going on with Unreal Tournament is marketing genius.

I certainly haven't heard anything about that... Their official reveal is at the Halo Fest the day before MCC launch.

Possible Halo 5 leaked images?

Take with a huge grain of salt. Could be completely fake.

(Also, not sure if posted already).

I doubt it. If those are multiplayer shots, then the percentage of likelihood went from grain of salt to grains of salt as we will be getting footage soon. I still doubt it though. Halo 5 would most likely be a Top priority to make sure nothing gets leaked.
