Halo |OT 20| It really does feel like Halo

you think CE 2v2 splitscreening will still be popular with the capabilities of the Xbox One in both LAN and matchmaking?
having a full screen instead ofc a half one @ higher FOV doesnt sound that negative
the screen cutout is rather odd though, as if they just took the middle part and cut the rest

(need to admit i rarely did 2 players splitscreening in CE tbh)

please be fake

Trying to figure out what you're attempting to point out, and I'm failing at it.

These small issues are the things that make or break maps. Shooting through the plasma pistol wall on Asylum broke the map. Being able to hide behind the carbine ramp on one side only broke the map. These are the things that, at higher level play, piss people off. It's why Solace had to be forged to be usable for 2-sided objectives.

This is a terrible way to judge things. Gameplay should always outweigh prettiness. And personally, I thought the original looked great anyway.
its Jem...
Define "a bunch".

I have a feeling it's a rather small number.

Also, adding a cliff is literally moving mountains.

;)

I've never liked those sort of things because they remove your weapon.
holy shit, we get it. you like 343 and their decisions. you are like the Anti-Me.
Yeah, I'll get right to putting that in matchmaking ASAP.

And the reason I used the term "functionally symmetrical" was because many people, here and elsewhere, made it into a joke after 343 used it to describe many of H4's maps. Either make it symmetrical or design a good asymmetrical map. Functionally symmetrical maps are those where one teams base or side of the map has an issue/advantage/whatever that makes the map play asymmetrically. If that's the case, don't bother with the pretense.

Just because you weren't around until recently doesn't mean you can dismiss the months of backlash over miscommunication and lies surrounding H4 and HaloGAFs reactions at the time. Your stupid comment about moving mountains means you didn't actually have a counterpoint.
this.

That's really unfair. This place is way too exclusionary and this is a great example of how.
Bullshit.

He claimed we exaggerated the statement that functionally symmetrical maps were complained about a bunch already. I pointed out that ignorance of the conversations doesn't negate their existence.

If I get into a discussion and make claims, I'll be damned sure I can back them up, here or elsewhere. Expecting the same of others is in no way unfair or exclusionary.

And is it just me, or is every new person greeted with like a dozen or so "Hi and Welcome!" posts? How are we excluding them?

i'll take the blame for making this place unwelcoming.

Oh yeah, because when I got here, I got welcomed. Let me find the post.

Here it is

I love you all and it was funny. <3

Any guesses on what IGN First will show on their last day of MCC coverage tomorrow?

RIP Halo 5 FOV

Halo devs will never care about you.

how much does the FOV impact the graphical load?
i mean higher FOV means more objects and screen to be rendered, i could see the developers reducing the FOV to get a more stable framerate or enhance the gfx slightly if my assumption is correct

FOV is the least advertised aspect of a game compared to resolution or fps, so the hurdle to mess with the FOV could be rather low from a devs perspective

90 should really be the standard they should be aiming for now.

That just can't be accurate. I hope it's not representative of the final version. CE is starting to feel more and more like this weird mash-up, different CEA hud, Halo PC port but with CE spawns and weapons/vehicles, different FoV, different sniper reticule etc.

Much better comparison picture. I feel like this is splitscreen, but I'm also a fair bit worried as well. Hope for the best, expect the worse.

You obviously haven't been a Halo fan for very long. You'll soon learn to hope for a happy accident, but expect it to be even worse than you imagined.

Okay, now that I understand the context: why are we surprised by this? As pointed out, CEA had a narrower FOV in splitscreen. It's a natural consequence of chopping a 4:3 image versus a 16:9.

Still better than Halo 3.
At least in the 360 version, Halo 3's 2-player split is actually pretty comfy; it's slightly wider and a lot taller than the CEA/MCC 2-player split.

how much does the FOV impact the graphical load?
Hard to say; it's going to be implementation-dependent at least. In most games that let you adjust it, the effect is negligible.

...You're not seriously claiming that wide-FoV Halo 1 at 1080p60 should bring an XB1 to its knees though, are you?

no it was more of a general question targeted to the general modern games being in development, eg Destiny and its super tiny FOV

It's such a minor issue though that 99.99% of people won't even notice from a gameplay perspective. This isn't a case where one base has a distinct advantage over the over. Having a cliff vs not having a cliff isn't going to make any difference in the slightest to the outcome of a match. And it certainly isn't a case where it will make or break a map.

Also a well designed functionally symmetric map is in no way bad; Blood Gulch, the most iconic Halo map of all time, could be described as functionally symmetric.

Really? That was clearly a joke. You guys take this far too seriously sometimes...

holy shit, we get it. you like 343 and their decisions. you are like the Anti-Me.

You've said this a couple of times now. Just because my posts aren't laced with salt doesn't mean I think 343 can do no wrong. This is a case where the nit picking is (IMO) so extreme that it's silly.

I also occasionally argue the devils advocate here because almost no one else does and the near constant stream of negativity is really quite tiring.

Also I never claimed those discussions never existed. Only that the people who took part in them were a very small minority.

I think they will just release the BTS documentary and we will probably get some more sneak peeks of Halo 5 beta footage in there.
Ah yeah, the BTS would make sense. I don't think we're gonna get any H5 beta footage till HaloFest, though.

Nah, I just have more hope than the average Gaffer. Only been here a few months, I still have too much hope. Ragnarok is slacking.

Like I said before, the doc is premiering on Xbox One and Xbox 360, not IGN. If the final First piece of content is the doc then that means they will release a piece of content after it was already released on Xbox(assuming it goes up when the marketplace updates).
All right, never mind then. That's super weird, why change the shape of the shield bar? There is still plenty of room for it and I doubt it took much in the way of resources.

I'm not surprised, but if I was someone who expected 343i to do things like make good design choices or learn from their mistakes, I would be.

As pointed out, CEA had a narrower FOV in splitscreen.
This was outside of the norm for the series, though. Including for OG CE.

CE should be running at a FoV of at least 360 tbh
Perspective projection won't work, so what do you suggest? Equirectangular?

I vote Mercator.

Ah, didn't know that.

So Greenskull found the Halo toy on the H2A Gravemind mission.

I thought it would be more than just a plushie, but that's still okay. Collectibles in Halo are cool.
Uhhh, I didn't see anything there except for a black orb? Edit : Oh wait, it's just really dark. I thought it was some type of stand or something.

Within one week of posting in HaloGAF I received a few PMs from older members apologizing for how shitty people were treating the new crop of juniors. So yeah, HaloGAF has always been a bit shit towards newbies.

Don't post like an asshole or spam like a certain alt who has returned (or shill for a system) and you'll eventually fit in.

Pretty sure I had posts quoted multiple times with the simple response "who the fuck are you?" as the only reply.

Lol, at least it's not that bad. Actually, my one really negative experience on HaloGaf was at the hands of some guy I actually haven't seen around here since, not even a regular. I think y'all are alright.

Salty, but alright.
