GTA V - PS3 vs PS4 Comparison Video (IGN)

What to buy?
Digital or Disc? I remember hearing the PS3 digital edition has issues.

Was it HDD access time?

For old gen the game installed to the HDD and streamed from the disc and was optomised to be steaming data from both souses. Digital copies not having the dsic to stream from had the streaming issues.

This gen all games install completely to the HDD and only use the disc as a way to authenticate after the initial install. This means Rockstar can not do the dual steaming solution they did last gen. But since the systems have larger and faster pools of memory hopefully that will mean it will be nothing to worry about.

TL:DR. It wont matter which version you get. Both will perform identically.

Does anyone know if the content you got with the limited/collectors editions of GTAV on PS3/360 are in the PS4/Xbone versions? How do you get them if they are...?
Saw someone ask this in their newswire. Don't believe they mentioned how you'll get them, but they said all that stuff will be in these versions.

This is making me try very hard to plan for getting my first PS4. This will be a definite system seller.

I expect the Dell bundle to sell out quick. Sony did a GTA 5 bundle with the PS3, I see them doing it again for the PS4.

Watched it at home a few more times on the TV and the few things that stuck out to me:

-it looks really good how the trees in Chiliad and Paleto now sway

-the new catcus with the new spines are probably some of the most gorgeous foliage I've seen in a game

-traffic draw distance still seems inconsistent.. it draws 'lights' in the final scene but the helicopter scene doesn't draw any of the same lights or traffic at even half the distance; during the daytime when Michael in parachuting (new screenshot) it also doesn't draw any of the traffic cars at half the distance... so I'm not sure how indicate the 'night car lights' (an effect used on the PS3 to great effect too) are indicate of the full car model traffic draw distance during the daytime

-couple of the NPCs in the Vespucci scene are new

-there are so many new car interiors... there was speculation there would be just a couple or even a few generic ones but so far almost every car shown has a different interior

Don't know if this has been posted yet but browsing Social Club I saw this information about the character transfer and how it will work.

http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/gtav/tutorials

Character Transfer

You will need a Rockstar Games Social Club account linked to the console accounts used when previously playing GTA Online.

When entering GTA Online, you will be given the option to transfer your previous GTA Online character and progression data. Once you have chosen to transfer your previous character and progression data, the transferable in-game money, RP and Rank of all previous characters will be displayed. These are the characters that will be transferred to the PlayStation®4 or Xbox One. Once the transfer has completed, you will be prompted to choose a character and enter GTA Online.

You will still be able to play your existing characters on PlayStation®3 and/or Xbox 360, however any progress made with versions of the characters on those systems after a transfer will remain on those systems only. Any existing PlayStation®4 or Xbox One GTA Online character and progression data will be replaced by the previous character and progression data during the transfer, except for any existing in-game money, which will be combined with your transferred balance.

All earned in-game money will transfer. Purchased in-game money that has not yet been spent will only transfer within a console family (e.g. PlayStation®3 to PlayStation®4).

"progression data"...I'm hoping that means my apartments and vehicles.

I do agree it's mostly a comedy and shouldn't be held to the same values TLOU would (though I don't think that makes it exempt from criticisms on a storytelling level as they're clearly still attempting to tell a 30-40 hour story). Interestingly enough, I thought I'd enjoy it more because of the comedic tone, but the whole time all I wanted the game to do was shut up for a minute and let things play out like a moody heist thriller. I think I'm just over the "wacky" GTA humor and satire. I find it grating and limiting now more than anything. The characters and tone are always on the offense, constantly angry. There's no room to breathe. There's no room for believability. It feels at odds with the presentation of the game's world. (or the presentation of the naturalistic elements anyway)

Omg, the last third. Seriously bordering on making those two characters irredeemably irritating.

Great post.
My most wanted feature is a "shut the F--k up button", so that I can stop other characters talking.... so much of the "banter" is unfunny and tedious.

Just noticed that the Mini-map seems a little different now. The black border around it is gone now... Should help it be a little less intrusive and fade into the background a bit better. I often played on either Mini-map Off or just with Blips because I always thought it was too intrusive. Wish we could make it smaller or more transparent... mods will take care of that fast.

That reflection.

At the start of the picket fence trailer, you can see that rain reflects light even as it is falling.

The differences between the two versions are definitely night & day. :)

Well, Rockstar is in a whole different league. They don't churn out yearly releases, they take their time with each main entry and it definitely shows. This game seems on par with the best this gen has to offer so far, and that isn't a knock against the current gen offerings. They really squeezed 145% of what last gen hw had to offer. This is a remaster but it doesn't look like one, it really looks beautiful and will make AC look amateurish by comparison.

GTA V on Xbox One, PS4, & PC have made both AC Unity & Watch Dogs look amateurish by a country mile.

I wish they would give this treatment to RDR.

I agree. They need to remaster that game next; using the Xbox 360 version (PS3 version was terrible).

Just posted on Rockstar Support about transferring from PS4 to PC. I want to triple dip on this game so hard, but I can't justify it if I can only transfer my character to PC. If that's the case I won't buy the PS4 version at all. But I want to. I hope Rockstar Support tells me it's going to be possible. I'd hate to not give them more money.

The polish and visuals make me want the game, but I can never like characters in GTA games. From what I've seen of last gen GTA5 this game seems no different.

Honestly wish I could relate or even just enjoy the characters so I could enjoy these games.

Bless you, man.
I guess that it would be something like this -

Transfer from PS3>PS4:
you can still play on PS3 and continue there, but progress won't be transfered to PS4

PS4>PC
the same - everything will be in its own console/pc database.

Very interesting- I can't let all those cars acquired with the snowy billions go to waste! We better have our apartments, clothes, vehicles, etc.! Sheeeeeeeit.

The question is, will GTA V be the best-selling title of the year, for the second year in a row?

What are the odds?

Nah.

It won't outsell CoD, Assassins Creed, Destiny, or Far Cry.

But it will sell well.

Watch_Dogs? Arguably.

Unity? lol no.

Is GTA V better then Watch_Dogs? Well.. it's Watch_Dogs... you know? (I didnt Play GTA V yet but I'm looking forward to it.)

Edit.:
Well, I was comparing GTA V with AC:U and W_D PC footage... but that was pretty premature of me now. Because we don't know what GTA V will look like on PC. (probably not much different though).

It is essentially the same game. Some people look at comparisons like this and see that it looks like roughly the same game..

I don't think this applies here as the video points out the diference very clearly. The car has no reflections and then it has. You can't miss that difference and say it looks the same.

To me actually this looks like a this gen game that got a last gen version with downgraded graphics. None of the added objects, may it be grass, wildlife, cars or pedestrians look like an afterthought. The models themselves look not like the best this-gen models but more than acceptable for a game of this scope.

I am so happy I did not play this last gen.

For people that had the game on previous gen, what is it making you excited enough to buy it again? I'm trying to get excited but the thought of going through the story mode itself does nothing for me.

And GTA Online as far as I'm concerned, just never met the expectations.

I'll probably get it again when they do DLC, but right now I'm not too excited even though the first person mode was the only thing that truely felt interesting to play so far.

The only GTA I had a good time with was Vice City.
I also had a very good time with Sleeping Dogs last year, which surprised me greatly.

Is there any joy or light heartedness in the new game? From all the footage and impressions it sounds like the characters are all really douchey, and it doesn't seem funny. I didn't like GTA 4 because the main character was so awful.

Oh, this sounds like it might be a deal breaker for me. I want to drive around that world and have fun, but I can't stand terrible banter.

It's more like the PS2 GTAs in spirit than GTAIV.

It's probably a safe bet that San Diego are working on the RDR sequel.

I'm curious what Rockstar Toronto may be working on. I know they were merged with Rockstar Vancouver after Max Payne 3 shipped.

R* Toronto has been working on (co)developing the PC version of the game and probably helping on porting the NewGen version. But outside of GTA no rumors on what they are doing.

I just want to play it again connected to my ps4 with better visuals. I'm honestly hoping the load times for single player and online mode are much faster. At my point in life I don't want my time wasted with multi minute load times every time I try playing online. It's one of the reasons I dumped destiny.

I didn't realise until now but this game with first person mode is going to be amazing with occulus! I hope it gets native support by Rockstar.

The FPS mode sold me on the PC version.

Hopefully they have the custom radio music like GTA IV.

I'll be driving around listening to my tunes in first person. Gonna be good.

Has anyone noticed an improvement in the water/rivers/ocean/waves rendering in this new version? I remember one of the preview mentioning that the water shaders etc had been completely overhauled to make them look better, which I find hard to believe as the water in last gen GTAV was already by far and away the most impressive water tech I have seen in any game... I can't see how they could make it any better!

Interesting find.

If it does only mean level and banked cash it would be very disappointing and definitely move this from a must buy to a may buy later for me.

I don't want to sell everything my characters have earned on the PS3 version to turn assets into cash before transferring. Ultimately I just want to carry on playing with my PS3 friends in the immediate term whilst dipping in and out of the PS4 version now and then just to experience Los Santos in higher definition (and maybe occasionally in FPV).

Additional experience/cash/assets not syncing post transfer seems fair but I really can't be bothered to spend hours re-accumulating vehicles and other assets that I have already bought.

Well the Rockstar Social Club site seems thoroughly borked.

I simply can't reset my password. The page loads, get the email, enter new password... login doesn't work. Tried it 3 times.

Seriously, I gotta complete Red Dead before this one comes out. Have only touched it for an hour.

This GTA V looks amazing and I'm hyped. Will probably buy it for both PS4 and PC later next year.

Nah.

It won't outsell CoD, Assassins Creed, Destiny, or Far Cry.

But it will sell well.

The last-gen versions outsold CoD, so I see no reason as to why the current-gen versions won't outsell AW. AC and Far Cry will be a cake walk for it too.

Not sure about Destiny, though....
