Sonic Boom Street Date (and fans' hearts) Broken

It's sad how Sega doesn't give a shit about quality control in one of their most popular franchises. Why can't they care like how Nintendo cares about Mario?

I think it's 7 am on Saturdays and 6 am for reruns on Sundays.

But yeah, terrible timeslot either way. They didn't promote it at all either. I had no idea it was coming on until I was flipping through the schedule for Toonami and saw it. Show's been sent to die.

It feels like Sega had high ambitions for the Boom franchise, but then lost confidence in the whole project halfway through. Everything about this seems half-assed: The cartoon show got sent to die, the Wii U game looked like it had potential, but got pushed out way, way too early and the 3DS game likely won't be all that much better either.

It's kind of a shame, really. I'm not a fan of the redesigns, but I think that the idea behind it was pretty good and could've helped the Sonic franchise to become popular with younger audiences again if done right.

you haven't seen a dreamcast game in years

I just googled some screenshots of Sonic Adventure 2. Looks better to me. The HD version of SA2 especially looks way better.

And if you want to talk aesthetics, it looks worse than Sonic the Hedgehog on Genesis.

In fact, it's the worst looking game I've ever seen.

Amy: Don't do the thing Sonic!
Robots: [approaching intensifies]
Amy & Knuckles: Fight time
Robots: LOCATION CONFIRMED SENDING SUPPLIES
Sonic: "I'mma do the thing now."
Amy "Don't do the thing, we can take them."
[Metal Sonic arrives]
Sonic: Fuck it. *Does the thing*

Should note that in the unboxing vid, it confirmed there's DLC. Now do they only consider that luminous costume stuff as DLC, or perhaps there's more we don't know.

Which HOPEFULLY also points to a patch or two. They sure need it.

Doesnt seem that bad... I feel this game would do really better without the Sonic name attached to it, but it might be just me...

What does this game have going for it except for the Sonic licence (which isn't much anymore, but still)?

I fail to see something wrong here

This is a game made with cryengine and is on WiiU.
Yet it somehow looks like this...

I'll admit that I had like zero hope for this game, but geez man..geez..

If you think a engine will remove shit from a shit dev you are delusional. Everybody knew this was a train wreck even Sega. Sega just is looking to profit. People may give them the money.

Different stories & characters. You can't play as Amy in the 3DS version because she was kidnapped, so instead it's Sticks.

huh. which one comes before which? so you basically have to play both to get the full story before the series?

"This will be the new Western branch of Sonic the Hedgehog"

It's pretty much a licensed game that happens to use the Sonic property. It's no different than any shovelware movie tie-in videogame released during the previous two generations. Everything about this game seemed like it was decided by executives following a generic Boys Ages 6-10 Success Formula, from Knuckles being a brute to the cookie-cutter focus-tested dialogue, the basic brawler 00's 3rd party licensced platformer gameplay with "Sonic-themed" 3-lane runner sections; even all the way to the graphics being right in place with the PS2-era Spyro games.

What a travesty.

Rise of Lyric is basically the "origins" of the show's main baddy, Lyric (god, he sounds like he'd fit in Sonic Underground). Shattered Crystal is basically Amy discovers something about a crystal, Lyric kidnaps her so he can get the info to find said crystal, you rescue her.

I guess only the Wii U version is required story wise?

you haven't seen a dreamcast game in years. plus, a gif is not the greatest way of seeing how a game looks

Sonic Boom looks really bleak and dull. A lot of the art style looks consistent to me, so I wouldn't really say he's wrong. Sonic Adventure 2 was very vibrant, colorful and consistent. The HD release still looks great today, imo.

i'm glad it's terrible and not just mediocre

mediocre is no fun

obviously i would've liked it to have been good but that wasn't gonna happen and everyone knew it

The real Sonic team made this garbage, so I'm not too excited for their game either:

Rather than defending Lost World (Which I've done once in this thread) I'll say the team who made Generations haven't released anything since then. So there is hope.
