Didn't they renew the Phantom Dust IP a couple months before the reboot was announced?

Also, didn't Phil Spencer say he was partial to Battletoads?

In before they didn't step away from this ugly look that was seemingly teased a while back:

Oh no, is that what they're going to look like? Seriously, Pimple's face is terrifying me! Plus, the noses just look off; I know they're humans-turned-toad, but that doesn't justify them being toads with human noses. I hope that's not what we're getting, but then again, why else would we have new, high-res, 3D Models of the Battletoads? The last game in the series was sprite-based and released in 1994 and they're faded into the background, so it seems like a waste if they were made just for that one joke.

I wonder if it'll turn out to be any good. Battletoads felt cobbled together, but cobbled in such a way that it was still fun, despite its glaring flaws, and without being a result of a Sonic 06-ish "so bad it's good" way, either. However, if Rare takes this project on themselves, I feel it won't be either of those, but instead'll just flat-out suck. Plus, with how casual Rare's games have been, there's no way they'll make the game as hard as before. I'm not sure if any company would come close in this day and age, but if Rare tried to make it "difficult," I'm sure the game would still end up being like a breeze. We heard about the new Killer Instinct shortly after the trademark was filed, right? Maybe we'll have more info soon.

Battletoads.

Developed by Platinum Games.

A man can dream.

That would be the pinnacle of gaming. Like, no one would be able to top that. They would gaze upon perfection, the perfection will gaze back, and then no one would make any more video games after that.

WayForward (Double Dragon Neon, Ducktales Remastered) would be my guess.

I'd rather WayForward not handle it considering the artistic liberties they did with Double Dragon.

The series was generally always serious in tone and didn't have any comedy appeal, Out of all Technos brawler series, it was the Nekketsu games that were more open to interpretation, rather making Double Dragon some kind of colorful neon lightshow with gangs from outerspace, meh.

WayForward respected the source material of Contra with Contra 4, but they sure as hell didn't with Double Dragon Neon.

Not even joking. A good Toads game woukd be enough to make me buy a XBone as soon as it came out. Even Scalebound, as much as I love Kamiya, wouldn't be enough to do that! :lol

Just please keep it true to the original designs as much as possible.

Seriously. SUPER Battletoads is the moniker they should be working off of. Not NES toads.

And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. Keep WayForward away from my Battletoads.

Twisted Pixel would be a good fit for some Toads.

MAKE IT ARCADE BATTLETOADS AND NOT THE SHITTY NES BATTLETOADS.

What? Arcade Battletoads is a shitty quartermuncher.

NES Battletoads is a game where nearly every level was different from the rest, one of the more creative games of its time and type.

I don't want a slow-as-molasses-repetitive-overstaying-its-welcome-tenfold game, thank you.

But Splosion Man contradicts this argument. If TP can make a damn fine platformer like Splosion Man, then they can do some goddamned Toads.

It also had awesome music from David Wise

If anything the beat'em aspects of a new Battletoads game using the Arcade version as a starting point would be better and then work from that with other levels be it vehicles such as the Speed Bikes in the Turbo Tunnels. Platforming segments weren't exactly Battletoads strong suit with the Snake level.

Best to stick with what was actually good and go from there.

NES Battletoads relied on obtuse AI scaling, had the worst music out of the 'Toads titles, and it's aged horribly.

Super Battletoads has THIS

Fantastic art direction, amazing music, actual challenge and depth regarding the combat, and one of the more standout brawlers of it's time.
Outrageously space-metal.

'Splosion Man was a great game, Ms. 'Splosion Man was good even though inferior to the first game & The Maw was decent but Comic Jumper & Lococycle were crap. Twisted Pixel is a really inconsistent studio and I have to agree that I wouldn't trust them with something like Battletoads.

I'm calling this also: A Battletoads character headlining the first guest character set for Killer Instinct: Season 3 (that will be at E3.)

It's pretty amazing that a title alone can get people so hyped considering when the last game was released.

A new Battletoads game done right could fill the void left behind from all those terrible current generation TMNT games. I would be game for a new one if they made it a beat 'em up in the style of the originals.

A jetpac refuelled style release would be interesting.

PressPlay are a good possibility, totem (unless delayed) should be wrapping with news coming this week, then they have a new ip and more max in development I think but perhaps it's just a new ip for them? They did say they wanted to do banjo… perhaps they got battletoads instead

Rare is making banjo and starting development on a new IP. They don't have time for battletoads. So I wonder who MS would have develop this
