Just...be respectful. The awards are what they are, and the reveals are cool but after the last few months of horrifying bullshit I don't think I could bare to see a show which claims to represent the industry trot out teabagging soldiers and semi-adversarial comedians.

I agree 1000%

I wonder who the co-host will be this year. Something tells me its not gonna be Joel Mchale

1.) I don't think it will be black tie.

2.) The awards will be selected by a combination of the press and fans. More details will be announced in the coming weeks about that.

3.) Well I've been working on this for a while now. It actually started in earnest after Last of Us: One Night Live. Neil turned to me as we walked off stage and said, "You should make the awards feel like that." It's been a few months of aligning with all the publishers and platforms, and I'm truly honored they have all put competition aside to support the show.

4.) Yes, I'm very excited about what we're building. Tight timeline this year, but I'm excited by what is coming together.

Nice. Wish I could watch live, but I'd be on a plane to Vegas for the PS experience event :(

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Last year's VGX were so awful that Cranky Kong's reveal was the second best thing coming out from that (the first being No Man's Sky, fortunately), hopefully this one will be better.

Good to see Nintendo on board, not ignoring it despite having their own channel (Nintendo Directs), I feared last year could have been just an occasional event, but it seems it'll happen again.

Are you ready for "Crank Kong sticks in!", guys?

an exclusive reveal of Cranky's Cane Capers, a new $40 Wii U release from Retro Studios, based around bouncing Cranky through dangerous spike filled levels

I'd love a show that's respectful to the games and the industry and I don't mind at all that its focused on awards (as long as fans don't have too much say).

Hi guys - Thanks for the interest. Happy to answer questions about the show here on GAF.

Hey! Good luck. A couple of questions:

- Are you guys expanding the categories you had previously on the VGA-X?
- Are you finally going to have every award being received on stage instead of having just a couple and then just show a quick montage showing the rest?
- Have an orchestra playing a medley from the nominated games. Not a question, but a demand *wink*
- Will this be on the vein of the VGA-X (or anything Spike-like) or are you trying to evolve into a more serious, Oscar's like awards?

Hi, Geoff.

Can you give a general idea of the kind of tone you're aiming for? You obviously took a lot of flack for that in the past. This seems to really be your thing and with strong industry backing. I'm assuming there's much less pressure from advertisers (if any at all) seeing as this isn't airing on television.

So yeah, can you just give an impression of the tone? Any point of comparison? Thanks.

Sony going all out between this and PSX.
No way we're not getting some big ass announcements in those days.
Maybe UC4 gameplay (the same for other big projects) sneak peek at Game Awards and full reveal at PSX keynote?

Also, how can one whole development house and one whole publishing house be on a board? Who specifically (if anyone) from from those companies gets to make any kind of decision? Are those companies funding the award show?

What are you doing to make sure that this time it doesnt end up being embarrassing for the industry more than a "celebration" of it?

The advisory board is not involved in the selection of nominees or winners. They are supporters of the show in terms of airing it on their platforms, sharing it with their fanbases, and so on. There are also many other partners of the show (including media outlets), but we will share those details down the road.

The advisory board members do not pay to be on the board, nor is there any fee to submit games for nomination.

While I am cautiously optimistic, Geoff... after the absolute... well, whatever the VGX was, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Sure, I'll tune in.

I bet ya Rise of the Tomb Raider is there.

Maybe this time they can get Camilla Luddington back and just not have a terrible and awkward interview.

Hi guys - Thanks for the interest. Happy to answer questions about the show here on GAF.

How many layers will you wear this year?

How long will they give you before you are visibly weary and annoyed on stage?

Will you broadcast from a bar?

Will you get hammered if Joel McHale shows up?

Will Joel McHale show up?

How are you deciding on the winners? Public vote again?

Will this be a glorified ad like previous years (not that I'm against it)?

Look, man, I'm not trying to be a dick... but please don't do last year again. Oh God.

Now I have to go rewatch the VGX awards to see if it's as bad as my memories of it.

All of that sounds like the show you've wanted to make. I hope that the publishers don't have much influence on the voting itself, and that the premieres don't jar with the ceremony too much, but this all sounds promising.

Thanks, I'm looking to build something more along the lines of what I do with Final Hours or Last of Us: One Night Live. Of course you'll be the judges of how this all comes together.

The Game Awards 2014 is produced by Geoff Keighley, with the guidance of an advisory board that includes Reggie Fils-Aime (President and COO, Nintendo of America), Yves Guillemot (Co-Founder and CEO, Ubisoft), Hideo Kojima (Executive Contents Director, Kojima Productions), Shawn Layden (CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America), Peter Moore (COO, Electronic Arts), Rockstar Games, Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox, Microsoft), Martin Tremblay (President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) and Valve.

I love how Valve is the only company that doesn't list a specific representative for their spot on the advisory board. So Valve.

In terms of categories, all serious, or are there going to be some groan-inducing joke categories?

Fallout 4 current gen only, some Uncharted 4 gameplay, and a realtime Halo 5 campaign trailer.

This is all I require.

How many reveals are you looking to have for the event?

Here's to hoping for some huge announcements! (Fallout 4/Mass Effect 4)

p.s. Nice job at BlizzCon this weekend.

I agree 1000%

We'll share more about the format in the days/weeks ahead, today we're focusing on all the publisher partners.

The advisory board is not involved in the selection of nominees or winners. They are supporters of the show in terms of airing it on their platforms, sharing it with their fanbases, and so on. Okay, so I like the sound of this. You're definitely saying all the right things. Got most of the big guys on board, less crass stuff, seems to be ethical in terms of choosing the choices. I just hope Spike doesn't shove a bunch of needless adolescent horseshit down your metaphorical throat.

But I'm rooting for you, Geoff. It's always felt like you really do wanna run a super-legit show but every year... it's something or other.

Question: What will you be wearing? I miss your rad suits that you wear on E3.

Another question: What kind of categories will we see winners for? Will there be any new technical categories that haven't been done before?

I just hope they give the indie guys a chance to show off some stuff, and also not just give them a token award and nothing else.
But who am I kidding ...

Hi Geoff, I'm a big fan and have been watching since the G4TV.com show. I wanted to ask:

1) Is that Mega64 Puppet interview where you get angry staged or real?

2) Is Joel McHale returning? I loved how you guys interacted during VGX and thought you made a great pair.

Variety is one of those media outlets, I presume

For real? See, that is the best stuff you've done. So if you're comparing it to that stuff, I'm down. I'm in.

What goes into, what is essentially, rebooting this entire thing? How did you convince the platform holders and publishers to be a part of it after the last few years?
