Sounds like more of a straight up Award show (ala Oscars/ Emmys) rather than a weird entertainment show with some awards thrown in?
Probably a better idea.
Now is it going to be good? ...

Hi guys - Thanks for the interest. Happy to answer questions about the show here on GAF.

This show sounds so much better than what the VGA/Xs turned into. I'll give it watch on 12/5. Will there be a way for developers or guests to answer questions on the show about reveals/announcements? Also, will there be a "Gamers Choice" Award given out to a game that fans can vote on?

Keep up the good work Geoff.

One of the interesting things about past shows is that they celebrate the past year of accomplishments (in a very commercial way) while still looking forward to the year ahead.

There is no other award show that shows stuff coming next year and honors the stuff for the past year.

That makes video game awards interesting.

An awards show backed by the companies which make the games? Yep sure sounds like a fair set up to me

Yeah well y'know. Can't be bad!

I thought the VGAs were a lot of fun, while it not have not been the best way to have a video game awards thing. Will try to be excited for this.

YEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!!

New MGSV stuff confirmed and HOPEFULLY RELEASE DATE!!!!!

So, assuming this is going to be streamed, is every award going to be handed out live? What disappointed me about the VGAs was that most of the awards weren't even given out during the live broadcast. Instead, the winners were quietly announced on the site to very little fanfare after the award ceremony ended. I want more focus on the awards, not 10 minute CGI trailers for upcoming first person shooters.

Geoff, what general percentage of the show will be awards, and how much will be reveals/new game footage?

I think that's an excellent question and one I struggle with all the time. At the end of the day a lot of you guys want to see forward-looking content on big games in 2015 and beyond. Awards are really important, but at the same time I know it's not the most compelling content to see 25 back to back award presentations.

Just get Troy Baker or Nolan North to be a co-host.

Actually no, bad idea. If either is nominated for an award, it is a conflict of interest.

Either Geoff should host it (cause he actually is good at that) or they should get another charismatic game-related person.

Kevin Spacey. Get Kevin Spacey.

To set expectations we won't be able to hand out every award live. That would make for a very long evening.

Hmmm so PS experience/new award show in the same city a day apart from each other. So one will be for reveal/s the other for gameplay showcase? That would be great. This at least sounds better than VGX.

Ok serious question time now. Given the timing of the show and the fact that it is 6 months after/before e3, do you feel that these awards are ideally situated for publishers to use this as a platform for some big reveals and is there a long term plan to encourage the use of this platform to increase exposure for future years?

That's not going to work.

Terrible pajarón Ridesh.

I would love to see awards for important things that make a game good too.. Like:

  • Best In-game innovation. Like the nemesis in Shadow Of Mordor.
  • Best Online experience. Wich game offer the best MP option.
  • Best graphics.
  • Best game trailer.
  • Best optional feature: Like mobile companions.
  • Best ingame Male and Female character. 1 character of the year is not enough.
  • Best writing in a game.
  • Best world in a game.
  • Most amazing single moment in a game.

Those all sound like a "BROUGHT TO YOU BY HYUNDAY" type of things. Videogames are more than wow such epic much wowzers moments. There's sound, there's art direction, there's character design. Let's honor this wonderful people instead of some cheap "GAME presents the BAFTA for most awesome tatas on a game character." knock off.

I enjoyed the Final Hours stuff, if that is the sort of the template to be used going forward then I'm all for it.

I know you can't dictate what publishers reveal but can you try and keep any sort of DLC premieres to a minimum, just my opinion but I think a lot tune in to see announcements of full games. No Mans Sky type reveals.

ND video for VGX award last year was the best part of it. I think that would work to move things faster for some categories.

I love that stuff too, but obviously I don't make the games so it's really up to publishers and developers to decide how and when to share news.

hopefully it's more legit than spike awards. VGAs were embarrassing for gamers everywhere. I think we deserve a legit awards show by now.

I hope Joel comes back this year. He was the best part about the show last year, and I'd gladly pay to see him troll Geoff again.

Hi guys - Thanks for the interest. Happy to answer questions about the show here on GAF.

Let's get the major one out of the Geoff, how much of an influence to the show are the publishers? Do they have an active hand in the content being presented during the show or are they more like "sponsors" in the background while you and your team do their own thing?
