That is extraordinary. Clannad is one of my favorite animes of all time.

I might need to keep a close eye on this, as weird as it seems. I've never bought a visual novel in my life.

Was the same conundrum with the Stein;s Gate anime/VN. Some said watch the anime first, some said play the VN.

A choice you just gotta make for yourself.

I managed to get in the early bird $30 tier, but please, Sekai Project, do the Vita version too somehow. I don't see myself tethered to my PC for something the length of Clannad, and I'd rather not have to VNC to my PC with my iPad or something like that.

I really hope they'll consider releasing the game on a handheld be it 3DS or Vita!

I love playing these kind of games on the go.

BTW, I was going to watch the anime "clannad & after story" when I get the blu-rays this
holiday but now I'm afraid it may ruin the game for me so can anyone tell me , for a great
experience should I watch the anime first or wait for the game?

Well vita would be more likely since no 3ds version exists.

Update:

$123k! Wow! That's crazy, you guys are all amazing! But it's getting late for all of us here at Sekai Project, so let's leave you with a little bit of information before we go off for the night.

We are currently looking in to adding a few more limited spots to the $1000 tier, so we'll have more information about that soon. When we have confirmation on that, we'll tell everyone before we add them. We're looking at possibly bringing over the HD assets from the PS3 version, there's a discussion between multiple parties to happen before we can even guess at how much the stretch goal would be. And lastly, a lot of people were asking about the status of Tomoya's voice, but the since the PS3 version does not feature it, it is doubtful that we will as well.

Well that's that for tonight. We'll have another ~amazing~ announcement for you tomorrow! Stay tuned, and once again a huge round of thanks to you all for being awesome fans. Let's pile up those pledges!

I would just watch the anime first.

VN is hella long. Like super long. I spent a lot of time doing all the school routes in the game and I didn't even get to do After Story since it wasn't translated at the time. It's long, brehs.

I've played it on and off for two years and I still haven't unlocked the After Story. I'll get there one day.

Never watched Clannad, my brother loves it. Never played a Visual Novel either but I backed the physical tier...just because I guess. :p No idea if I'll even play it. Damn Kickstarters...

It would make a nice gift for your bro :)

The lack of an English dub as even a stretch goal is kind of a deal breaker to me. This seems like an extravagant preorder really. I'm glad it's clearly going to succeed though, as it should demonstrate the viability of the genre.

Wait, so people are paying to have (along with an English translation) a Japanese dub made for the game's English release? wat?

The voices were already in Japanese. It's fully voiced, with high profile voice actors, which is probably making up a large portion of the cost

Normally I would say you don't want it dubbed, but since Ayres fits his character and Matranga wouldn't be in it, I can understand.

No, they're paying to license the existing Japanese voice work.

And because these are known actors with agencies, that shit can get absurdly expensive.

Anyway, already said it on Twitter but good luck to the Sekai dudes. Looks like this thing will cruise to funding easily, so now I'm curious to see how high it goes.

The fact that we're even getting a full translation is a miracle, expecting an English dub is nothing short of impossible I'd imagine.

I think it could be done, the real question is if it would be any good. We'll see what stretch goals they come up with pretty soon...

You do realize how big the script is? Finding real voice actors that are on the level of the original cast should be nearly impossible without even thinking about the enormous cost of recording all that.

Somehow audio books keep getting made too... If they did it, they'd probably set it as a pretty high stretch goal, yes. Considering historically games have sometimes used college students or programmers as voice talent, it's not a matter of if it could be done, but whether it would have the quality to be listenable.

Wow...I wonder if they expected anything even close to this level of support. 60 day Kickstarter makes me think they didn't.

Is it reason why they cant do a digital release for XBL and PSN? controller or what i want to play this damnit

There are actually a number of console VN releases, just none of them make it stateside.

Clannad is simply a gigantic undertaking. I think Ever17 got a remake exclusively on 360 iirc.

They'll easily hit their goal without me, in which case I'll wait to see how I feel at release...Unless they make a Vita stretch goal in which case count me the fuck in.
