K Gaf, do I get a WiiU or not?

I've been toying with this one since Bayonetta 2's release and really want to play it but obviously I am not buying a console for the sake of one game.

Looking through the lineup a few do interest me:
NSMBU
Captain Toad
W101
Bayonetta 2
ZombiU
3D World
(Not interested in Mario Kart, Smash or Zelda)

The reason I doubt it though is I had a 3DS before and wasn't very impressed tbh with the games I played; the big one being that I didn't even feel that 3D Land was the best platformer that year for me (Rayman Legends).

Anyone with a WiiU who likes it but wasn't impress with the 3DS?

That is 7 games you're interested in, along with whatever else in the future.

I'd say go for it.

You forgot the best game on the WiiU .

Monster Hunter

I think it's worth it for the outstanding ZombiU as well as the other solid games you already mentioned. Except for NSMBU, these are all quality experiences.

3D World is better than 3D Land in every single way, know that. Have you ever played Earthbound? That may be another reason to consider the Wii U, it is such an awesome game. Not being interested in MK8, Smash, or Zelda though... the latter two are probably my most hyped games.

I am completing my system transfer onto my new Wii U right now (old one broke a few months ago) and I am freaking pumped! It is an incredible system, and I really can't wait to try out Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad, and of course Smash. I think you should get one :)

I got my Wii U at launch and I'm not very impressed with it. There is nothing wrong with the first-party output except for the overall lack of innovation. NSMBU is a great 2D Mario game, but if you have already played Super Mario Bros. 3 (or one of the many other sequels) then you aren't missing out on anything. The same goes for Mario Kart 8, Wii Fit U, Pikmin 3, and Bayonetta 2.

What about Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, the best platformer on the system?

I'd say just 3D World and the Platinum games make it worth it but if there are no other future games you look forward to (Splatoon, X, Yoshi to mention a few) then it might not be the console for you.

I never have as much fun with a handheld as I do a home console. You could easily be bored with 3DS and find the Wii U a great place to be.

Gonna be the best overall Nintendo system since SNES when the dust settles. I'd say get one if there are that many games you want right now.

Definitely worth it, I never thought I would enjoy Nintendo games as much as I did this year.

Sucks thought, you just missed out on those $60 WiiU's.

3D World. Fantastic platformer. The same goes for the 2D Mario, even though I'm not big on its art.

The Platinum games are a must.

Zombi U is a true survival horror game.

Tropical Freeze is not on your list, but it's one of the best 2D platformers available.

I played Captain Toad at Gamescom, wonderfully charming game.

2015 doesn't look half bad either with Splatoon, Xenoblade and perhaps Starfox.

Just do it man. Help Iwata feed his family.
You can also get Donkey Kong, Pikmin 3, Lego City Undercover, and something else that's slipping my mind.
Then there are upcoming releases for it such as Xenoblade Chronicles, Splatoon,
SMT x FE
, and maybe even Fatal Frame V for the west!
Considering you can snag a Wii U for like 200 bucks, why not? Seems worth it to me.
Plus the Miiverse provides hours of entertainment.

If you have a next gen console or a good PC then go for it. If not, invest your money in one of the former instead.

Personally no, just save all those money and go bunker until Christmas, when it's Steam sale and get your sweet, sweet deals.

Well, Legends IS a better platformer.

Are you interested in the upcoming games? What about Xenoblade X, Splatoon, Kirby, Yoshi's Woolly World...? Do you own a Wii?

EDIT: Just noticed - you're interested in 3D World, NSMBU and Rayman but not in Tropical Freeze? I actually think it's the best platformer for the system.

I don't know... the "Not interested in Mario Kart, Smash or Zelda" tells me you're going to skip half of the reasons to buy a Wii U. Kart is pretty much the best and most robust online experiences on the system at the moment and Smash is the other flagship title for another 5-6 months.

I think it's worthed for Bayonetta 2 alone, and Nintendo seems determined to support it with more peculiar stuff (see Splatoon).

Again, if you can get one for cheap, i'd get one, but maybe not right about now.

only get the WiiU if you like games. if you don't like a large catalogue of top notch games, then the WiiU is not for you.

I've basically bought it as a Bayo-Box as well (since it has the best version of Bayonetta 1 too) but have since expanded my library to 13 games including all of the released ones you listed and I am very, very happy with this console and its exclusives. Sure, in terms of pure horsepower the Wii U is lacking but it more than makes up for this in terms of fun.

It has become a great system with great games. I really can't imagine not owning one at this point.

Pretty unfortunate you're not interested in Mario Kart, Smash or Zelda though. MK8 is amazing, Smash U is likely be incredible and Zelda will probably be awesome as well.

That post could have been mine.

I feel like I have played all of these games before.

And then, I prefer the originals..

I'm kind of in the same boat here.

If I rarely have the opportunity to do any local multiplayer with friends, should I reconsider? I might be able to get together with my friends once a month or so because of that whole "adult responsibilities" thing and spend the majority of my gaming time playing single player games.

Of course, I also skipped out on the Wii in its entirety from last gen, so would it be worth it considering I'd also have stuff like Mario Galaxy as well?

It seems there's only a handful of games you want for it, so if you get it for cheap ($200 or so), get it.

I've had mine a little over a year and a half and I only own 8 games for it, it's been disappointing but I DID buy it for MH3U and that has brought me lots and lots of great gaming, so I can't say it's been a total loss.

Something about this just feels odd.
