I'm installing GTA IV for the first time. Where do I find these sweet graphical mods?

Consulting my own post I made on a Dutch forum quite a while ago (January 3rd 2013) ( https://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_message/39530179#39530179 ), I used these mods for a playthrough.
These are just some recommendations and are perhaps even outdated at this time. So definitely check other sources of course.

- ICEnhancer: http://www.icelaglace.com/

- Two high resolution texture packs:
http://www.gta-downloads.com/en/gta4/total-conversions/11691-gta-iv-ultimate-textures.html
This one applies new textures to all districts in the game.

http://www.hardwareluxx.de/community/f146/gta-iv-faq-performance-796815-147.html#post17231617
This one has textures specifically for the Manhattan district.
So you first install the first mentioned texture pack, followed by this one that overrides the already modded textures for Manhattan with even better modded textures.
The problem here is that the download links I used on https://disk.yandex.com (It were 2 parts) don't work anymore, but by searching on the author's name (Lord Neophyte) you should find it elsewhere.

- One car pack: http://www.gta4-mods.com/vehicles/car-pack-2013-beta-f18866

Other remarks:
- I downgraded my Steam version to v1.0.4.0 since this one is the most recommended for modding. Tutorial: http://www.gtagaming.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2198415

- A bug I encountered when I used mods but never without mods: after watching a cutscene, the game would stay forever on the loading screen that would have to get you in the game.
I fixed this by setting the compatibility mode of both GTAIV. exe and LaunchGTAIV.exe to "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)".

Sadly, the post had magnificent screenshots of how this all looked but I cleaned my Dropbox a long time ago and deleted them...

yea to this day gta 4 runs like shit

I literally have everything on the lowest settings, and it gives me a warning that I have to lower some of my settings. And I'm sitting with an i5 processor, GTX 780, 16GB etc.

Guess I can't have fun with this until GTA V arrives.

i gotta say i actually like gta 4 more than most people, mostly because liberty city is awesome. but the game itself is super crap and jeez that story is so fucking dumbbbbb

gay tony dlc is super good tho. actually the first time in a long while that i've found rockstar writing enjoyable. i would really recommend you just play that

Oh man.

Introducing Goat MMO Simulator. Free expansion for Goat Sim. Um. Watch this trailer:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/331380/?snr=1_5_9__405

This actually looks really good. Finally, an MMO I can actually care about.

greenlight update:
23 games were greenlit recently, among those Nekopara, of course (><)

I wish Valve would just release batch lists like they used to. It's reached the point that I care about Greenlight as much as Valve does. It's just not worth bothering with anymore

Daily Sakura Spirit 66% off Don't do it. Just, don't.

giphy.gif

STOP. Hands off Sakura Spirit!

Sakura Spirit has a playtime of roughly an hour and is pretty dumb and dull. Go to the Steam Communtiy Hub to see all the smut pictures or make the Panda happy, you friggn pervs. Buy good Visual Novels like Dysfunctional Systems or Cherry Tree High Comedy Club or play a fantastic one for FREE.

The card prices though. You can't beat those sweet card prices. And just think of the booster pack possibilities.

Nothing stops this card hype train.

yeah but colonial marines is not fun embarrassing

sakura spirit is fun embarrassing lol

One of these days someone will actually do something with the NOLF IP :(

While people are listening to me, you really should.
You should also be hype for Late to the party

Hopefully more people back the game, I'll probably end up doing that in early December myself.

Speaking of which, I still need to play Unrest :|

Don't know if it was already mentioned, but apparently the Cook, Serve, Delicious! Battle Kitchen Edition left the beta and was released to everybody a little while ago.

I gave it a try for a bunch of minutes and I must say I was totally impressed by the sheer amount of stuff chubigans managed to put in his game.
What was already a great piece of entertainment (one of the greatest on Steam, my 34 hours of playtime - which for me is a huge number - can't lie) but prone to being boring in the long run for lack of variety, is now, I dare to say, perfect.

While challenges are pretty normal stuff, the endless mode left me shocked in awe, because it uses a oh so simple, but at the same time oh so brilliant, twist.
You start with 4 simple dishes (like beer, salad, all of them at the base level), and every now and then you receive a text asking you to pick between two choices: replace one of your dish with another one (which could be harder to prep) or upgrade a dish.
I'm not able to convey how great it actually is in practice, but it is fucking great, trust me.

I've yet to try the multiplayer stuff (I could, as my gf is actually better than me at CSD
not true, but she's passing by the PC while I'm writing this post, so let's pretend
, but the fact that one of us will have to use a controller instead of the keyboard we're used to use it's kinda meh), so I'd be interested to hear some opinions from who did try that.

Also, while I'm keeping my super crazy record tied with Caerith (I hate that guy), I've noticed that Milena is ruling my friends leaderboard for the endless mode.
Milena, please, quit playing, thanks.

GTAIV is pretty much the best game ever if you

1) Use the cab all day erry day
2) Do phone stuff THAT ARE COMPLETELY OPTIONAL YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO BOWLING ALL THE TIME FOR FUCKS SAKE when you feel like it, not when the phone rings.

Is the open world "as fun" as 3-SA? Probably not. Is it a friggin' amazing open world experience. Hells yeah.

Man I can't wait to play GTAV

Maybe you can find a solution here: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_IV

But yeah, it's a TURD of a game, performance wise.
I did that modded playthrough after I recently had gotten a new PC build. I was honestly expecting more performance than I was getting.
I mean, it was definitely enjoyable but you just felt it could have been more fluid on that kind of hardware...

i'm fun embarrassing!

heeeeeey cousin! Let go bowling!

i never had much issue with the annoying phone calls. i hanged out with roman and the always depressed black dude who's name i can't remember and tried dating a bit but then figured out these women were written by rockstar writers and probably started shooting at them. not sure if they can die now that i think about it

but mostly the game was just not very much fun and the story was fighting against you too much. that's why gay tony is so good, gay tony lets itself be sillier and actually tries to make you like its characters rather than hate them. it doesn't fix the crap shooting but at least it's got a fun story with fun characters

that's all i'm asking, really, an excuse to drive around gta 4's liberty city which i feel is prolly one of the better realized sandbox cities ever. maybe the best, but i'm not too comfortable saying that

The Lost and the Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony DLC chapters just blow GTA IV proper out of the water though. Better writing, better missions, and they introduce mission checkpoints(!).

Damn, reading the Bioware forums this Denuvo shit sounds terrifying; people are claiming this could break SSDs??

http://forum.bioware.com/topic/519697-denuvo-drm-in-dai-how-much-will-it-impact-performance/

I doubt it's the DRM causing disk writes.
Considering there's not even real baseline for writes, I would just discard it.
Also no similar reports from previous games. (I don't have any Denuvo games, so can't test).

It's more likely:

1) Windows, game allocates memory -> older stuff written to hard disk.
2) Game itself. Save games, caching, etc.

Someone could use real software to measure actual writes game causes.

I can't even screen grab GTA IV.

Something tells me I should stay far away from it.

I remember I bought it on PS3 back at launch while on vacation but never played more than 2 hours of it, so now I remember nothing of the actual game.

a comedy-mystery VN,
where you date guys only
only Japanese VAs too

a horror VN

a new VA/Oculus game, not kickstarted yet, and I'm not sure it will be
[/URL]

a horror game in the maze (not kickstarted too)
More VN's? Greenlit.

Still need to complete Cherry Tree High Comedy Club :X(it's really a fun game :D. I'm happy that the "sequel" gets a Steam release :p).

Daily Sakura Spirit 66% off Don't do it. Just, don't.
Weeklong are up
Humble bundle daily Mercenary Kings 60% off
Too late. I was already infected :( (bought the game when it was 50%. Shouldn't bought the game till now :X(because it's now 66%). I still need to play this game or else I wasted my money :/).

And because we're talking about Sakura Spirit. Let me remind you of Chariot's impressions/walkthrough about this game. You almost made me ROFL XD. You've got my respect ;).
Why aren't you making more of those impressions/walkthroughs? XD

Humble doesn't have bundles on the weekend.

Mistakes were made.

:(. Was hoping that the Sega Bundle would've come today. Maybe next week(when the Humble Jumbo Bundle is over?)

Seriously eyeing Ford Racing 3 after reading the user review describing it as "NFS Hot Pursuit 2 as a budget title" with "mid-2000's arcade racer physics". Not much of a fan of Ford cars, but that description hits the right buttons for me.

Okay, I just misread that as "White people are listening to me, you really should." o_O

its a pretty boring game imo. But for what its worth it has better cheat codes than GTA5 so its more fun to just fuck shit up in 4. That is unless they made the cheat codes better for the current gen/ pc port.

Steam gaf, is it worth saving 12 bucks on Far Cry 4 to have it on uplay instead of steam?

Im having trouble deciding, on one hand I want it in my steam library but the other it doesnt even have steam achievements and if its like fc3 I'll never play it again after I beat it

GTAIV is a 25 hour game that should've been half of that. I know a lot of ppl complain about the Mexican detour that Red Dead Redemption takes, but GTAIV is much more egregious with its bullshit filler campaign.

Luckily, they went lean and mean with the episodes, so if you do manage to get past the main game then you have a hell of a treat waiting for you.

you can save even more if you just wait. Uplay tends to cut ubisoft game prices faster and hard than they drop in steam, so you will be rewarded for your patience.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Kreijlooc just said Valve told him there isn't going to be Steam Dev Days next year.

I was told that it took "an incredible amount of employee resources", so I'm not surprised.

Gamespot's Danny O'Dwyer played GTAV's first-person mode for almost 90 minutes. He gets a bike about 9 minutes in, and the sense of speed is pretty impressive.

danny o'dwyer needs to do the jim sterling thing and move to youtube so i can subscribe to him and not have to personally check gamestop every now and then

he's pretty fun

The real Dark Souls starts here.

seems my Inquisition flickering might be the same as BF4 had at launch when SLIed (same engine right?) so I think ill just wait for a patch tbh

maybe they'll unlock the cutscenes in the meantime, this shit be silly yo

And some image hosting sites are blocked, but others aren't. Also, in general, sites related to gaming are fine, but Giantbomb never loads properly

I was told that it took "an incredible amount of employee resources", so I'm not surprised.

Figured. They also went all in on VR and OGL and covered other useful topics like GaaS, data driven design, UGC, monetization. Not a lot of topics left. Linux/OGL could be useful for their SU initiative, but there hasn't been much progress on that front. And VR wise Oculus has snatched up a lot of their people since and Valve VR people have been touring this year a lot.

Should I also post this in the news thread???

Enhanced Steam has been updated to version 7.1.1. This maintenance release includes the following changes:
  • Fixed badge page sorting options to work with pagination
  • Fixed a bug that caused coupon messages not to display properly
  • Fixed a bug that caused the account total spent feature not to work correctly
  • Fixed a bug that caused the badges page functions not to work correctly
  • Fixed the feature that shows achievements on the "All Games" page
This update is available for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera browsers. Opera users will need to wait until the submitted version has been approved

As always, please let me know if you encounter any issues with this release.
