Xbox One has a weaker GPU but a stronger CPU.
I'm impressed that everyone got on message and started calling the output of the Xbox One's broken scaler "pop" instead of "black crush".
Next up: start calling the Xbox One's incredibly long install times "delicious anticipation" and tout it as a feature.
I have both versions and yes, that's how it is:
me, i'm just over-all impressed with how quickly digital foundry has become the home of moveable goalposts. things like slight frame-rate drops either matter, or they don't, they're either 'tolerable', or they're not. it all depends, per individual article...
Difference is minuscule.
It's still the weaker console.
Balanced.
I have both versions and yes, that's how it is:
XB1 is probably using the cloud to obtain realistic weather conditions and rainfall data. Due to this the grass was much drier in that version. Wildfires and drought are a constant problem for people in California and the Xbox One All in One Entertainment System captures that perfectly. MS has made a machine that truly lets developers Art imitate life.
So based on this video, the Xbox version is missing the blue lens flare? 5 seconds in.

It reminds me of Red dead redemption on PS3 vs 360 comparison, the PS3 version had less grass and other stuff. Actually i read that a lot of Rockstar games for the PS3 had inferior versions compared to the 360, oh man how the tables have turned this gen.
This sort of post is so incredibly see-through.damn that is a HUGE difference, I'd be pissed if the Xbox One version was my only option.
Yeah but look carefully in the distance. The white car, my man, cpu advantages finally redeem xbone again. Stupid ps4 cpu this fucking 10% can't handle even a car in the long distance ? Can you hear me Cerny?I have both versions and yes, that's how it is:

Graphically yes but in any CPU-bound situation it's not.
A console isn't just its GPU.
What does that even mean?
I think these were comparison between PS4 and PS3 gif long time ago?
lolPS4 uses Scott's confirmed
Glad I went with the PS4 version. All of that new foliage makes a huge difference.
Yeah looking at this the difference seems way too big, are we sure that the grass-less version is actually the Xbone version and not the last-gen version?I think these were comparison between PS4 and PS3 gif long time ago?
Because last gen not has grass .Yeah looking at this the difference seems way too big, are we sure that the grass-less version is actually the Xbone version and not the last-gen version?
Might not have helped, since the PS4 has nearly double the fillrate.Wow, that foliage difference is terrible. I'd rather they went with 900p personally.
I'm worried that this will have more framedrops on PS4 for the same reason AC: Unity had them.

There isn't such an exacting line between CPU and GPU function for that to be any sort of fact. You can circle chips on a die, but their functions are multifaceted. Even with the XBO's very small CPU advantage, the PS4's GPU more than compensates with GPU compute tasks.Graphically yes but in any CPU-bound situation it's not.
A console isn't just its GPU.
That's a massive difference. To me that's a bigger difference than 900p vs 1080p.I have both versions and yes, that's how it is:
True, however it's still the overal weaker console by a fair margin.Xbox One has a weaker GPU but a stronger CPU.
I see that you're still salty about Unity.Yeah but look carefully in the distance. The white car, my man, cpu advantages finally redeem xbone again. Stupid ps4 cpu this fucking 10% can't handle even a car in the long distance ? Can you hear me Cerny?
**slow clap**Xbox version keeping that shit trimmed. My GF would like that.

If, for some reason, a developer decided to design a game using the exact maximum CPU resources of the XBO, and then still decided to go for visual parity, despite the significant GPU advantage on PS4, they would have lots of resources going to waste which could be used for traditionally CPU tasks.
CPUs are good at complex and messy tasks, which is why they primarily handle the simulation, GPUs are good at neat but demanding tasks, which is why they primarily handle the renderer, but CPUs can do rendering, as was very common with Cell, and GPUs can do simulation, as is intended to be the case with Liverpool.
damn that is a HUGE difference, I'd be pissed if the Xbox One version was my only option.

It's tough not to be salty after the ps4 Unity port. My stomach still suffer.I see that you're still salty about Unity.

What's up with this shot, it's from the gamingbolt site a lot of you seem to be posting images from.
Crazy. I guess that's the huge fillrate advantage of PS4 in action then. Good to see R* didn't cut it out just to avoid bruising MS's feelings. The grass-less version has the new mini-map and parallax mapping on the ground texture. Seems pretty clear it's not the last gen version.
Absolutely true, which is why I specified in instances of visual parity. This isn't the thread for it but GPU compute does not make up for CPU in a gaming situation where most of the GPU is already being used.
That's a massive difference. To me that's a bigger difference than 900p vs 1080p
That's pretty lame.
This isn't the thread for it but GPU compute does not make up for CPU in a gaming situation where most of the GPU is already being used.
It does if you are a grass enthusiast. It's my only option and I'm not pissed at all. It's not like that ruins the game.

But seriously, is there any more subtle differences that are yet to be discovered I wonder?
Sustained drops matter but single frame drops do not. They should do Max, Min, 99th percentile Min and Avg frame rate charts though just so you can actually compare in a more accurate manor than looking at their videos. They did it for Tomb Raider (well they did Min, Max, Avg but 99th percentile Min is important too).
I do not think that those things depend per article but they do need to show the objective data along with their subjective analysis. They should read HardOCP since they do GPU comparisons based on highest playable settings and they show the objective data along with their subjective analysis...
Might not have helped, since the PS4 has nearly double the fillrate.
