Square Enix will reveal a new console RPG that isn’t a remake in December

Another possibility is the new Dragon Quest Monsters game they confirmed a while back. It would be important to note that it's not a remake because the last two Monsters games were.

Vagrant story was kind of a pain to play.

I tried playing it this year to see what it was all about.

The game is purely frustrating. Its like a waaay less accessible PS1 version of souls games.

The game has an interesting premise ,but the gameplay is,dare I say,
bad
?

Nah the gameplay isn't bad, it's just a mash up of real time and tactical gameplay through menus. You either get it or you don't. I've very rarely seen an in between opinion on the gameplay.

This is probably what Phil spencer was referring too when he said don't worry the jrpgs are coming. It will be for X1 and ps4 no doubt.

Guys, we're all going to be trolled, it's going to be a Final Fantasy demake instead of a remake. I'm calling it now 16 bit graphics Final Fantasy VII ;)

On a serious note, it would be nice to see them do something original like Nier, or perhaps a sequel to it. I doubt they'd introduce one of their major franchise titles during a very busy month in terms of media and without any major coverage to support it, so it will probably either be a new IP, or a new spinoff.

hmm I mean the Characterdesings, that local artstyle, those medieval helmets.

Never for a second Dragons Dogma gave me a japanese vipe or feeling.

I think it would be good for SE to create a grounded, less turned off Rpg with normal haircuts (many dont like them - i Do) and maybe a story in the direction of Game of Thrones.

Dont know if they could handle something like that, but then they would have an RPG Game for every big gaming market
The Souls games are a hell of a lot closer to Japanese twisted manga like Berserk than anything western. And gameplay really isn't reminiscent of any western game either. Same goes for Dragon's Dogma. While it's perhaps a bit closer to western art design sensibilities, the combat is far better than any real-time WRPG, way more like Japanese games than cumbersome Elder Scrolls or the like.

I hope it's Square Enix experimenting with smaller, lower budget and shorter RPG games that a small crew that slit out in 18 months without breaking the bank in terms of budget.

The odds of this happening are slimmer than the thinnest phone.
Square Enix outlined plans in their financials earlier this month that they wish to revert to a model where they have more mid-tier medium-budget games, instead of their previous model of AAA and mobile games with nothing in between.

Here's the thread about it.

I am definitely not good at the gameplay nor I do know its ins and outs.

Maybe I need to try harder or follow a walkthrough(I don't like following walkthroughs :/)

Timing combos with the exclamation mark was pretty frustrating though.

The game isn't coming out tomorrow or anything.

Sure, but the DQ games always come to the system with the biggest installed base in Japan. and that system is the 3DS right now. Plus DQVII remake WAS on 3DS, so that's something in its favor.

I wouldn't expect a console DQ game. Just not worth it for SE if they want to maximize revenue. DQ isn't that dependant on visuals like FF. If I had to bet, my money would be on 3DS getting DQXI.

Horii says otherwise: http://gematsu.com/2014/06/dragon-quest-xi-development-underway

It's going to be a remake, and it's going to be mobile. Even if they emphatically state otherwise— I've come to expect it too much.

People here really want to see another Toriyama game huh, so many posts asking for it.

Dear god, I'm hoping for DQXI or TWEWY2. Or...or...
FFX-3
I said this on another thread. If they make FFX-3 I really want it to be the one where Tidus kicks a bomb that looks like a blitzball and dies.

Vagrant Story post

Could you point me somewhere where I can read about how this game works? (The battle system, not a walkthrough). I swear I have no clue what hitting specific parts of their bodies accomplish, and then there was a room where a guy just killed me in two hits, in the first dungeon. Even looking at equipment is weird >.>

S-E has sometimes been misleading, and plans and promises have changed. But they don't flat out lie like you're suggesting!

I was refferring to the Art Style and the optical appearance of the games. Not the Gameplay

Like i said, i would welcome it, to see an RPG Game from Square Enix, with an more grounded and western appearance in term of character design, world art and stuff like that.

In Terms of Gameplay the japanese ones are the best of course.
Square Enix own Dragons Dogma, with beautiful graphics, an big immersive World would be a Dream

They probably are going to make it for the PS4 solely because Horii wants to regardless of things like maximizing revenue.

how about both systems? Like Smash Bros or Ni No Kuni
A 3DS Version and Ps4 Version

I mean all those indications cant be for nothing. Sony presenting the Return of the DQ Franchise, Verendus saying Heroes wont be the last DQ for Ps4 and all of Horiis hints (DQ on a big screen)

I also think with DQ Heroes they want to push the Ps4 numbers in japan and prepare them for the real deal DQ XI. Same like they do with FF Type 0

I think they should only because if they dont, then consoles are gonna truly die in Japan.

They need to invest in backing consoles again.

I just hope it's at least at the same level of FFXV and KH3 in term of budget. I'll pick a PS4 next year anyway.

SE: Please be excited!

It'd be pretty cool if this was a new Star Ocean game. People will still find a way to be disappointed, even if that's the case, because they believe not announcing DQXI somehow detracts from the obvious fact that it exists and is being worked on.

....wut? You realize those two games are the biggest budget titles SE has, and in FFXV's case, likely the most expensive title they've ever made? You might as well save yourself the trouble and be disappointed now, because your wish isn't coming true. Even if the game is DQXI, it won't be as balls to the walls huge as FFXV promises to be.

I'm hoping for something like a new IP or another entry in the Chrono series, but I'm expecting a FFXV spinoff announcement to reuse FFXV assets... gotta make up on that 10 year development.
