Woah, are these new, because I didn't see them last week. They're the DLC that came with Famitsu & that Perfect Bible.

Wish I could have all the DLC downloaded & ready for when I get Bon Appetit, but I don't want all the freebies taking up space in my notifications.

You're so mean! Oh, you!
Did you expect a "Hit me, hit me!" spoiler?
I believe it's "bully me"

You can clear notifications. I wish they'd do a super bundle or something. All japanese games that do this crazy 50+ DLC items should do a complete bundle. Price aside it's just a pain in the ass

I just want to say the choices for cat/rabbit ear colors are puzzling. Only grey cat ears, only black/pink bunny ears with a WHITE tail

yes this IS an important issue

Is there a trick to farming parries/clothes torn? I apparently screwed myself out of those trophies in normal play by using frantic and never parrying. 1000 parries sounds...very painful

Parries is very easy. Go to 1-1 on Hanzo, defeat all but one of the enemies, then farm there.

As for clothing torn, I guess find a stage that's basically just a boss battle over & over. If you have the DLC, the 4th stage of Rin or Daidouji is against two characters at once.

There is another battle during Gessen, if I'm not mistaken, that you can battle both Hibary and Yagyu.

Picked this up at the weekend, been having a lot of (entirely pure and family friendly) fun with it since. I wasn’t expecting much, but the combat’s proven itself an enjoyable alternative to the Basara games, there's respectable attention to detail and charm in the presentation, and while the plot seems fairly simplistic, the character back-stories have a decent amount of oomph to them.

I’m alternating between the 3 initial schools at the moment, starting with Hanzo and switching for a bit whenever one of the other schools shows up in their storyline. Kinda wish I’d played Burst first so I could see how Homura’s squad were before they became all buddy-buddy with their rivals, since it feels like I’ve missed out on a fair amount of character development. Just finished the Hanzo chapter where
they learn their secret Ninpos, and team Homura seem to be generally friendly and accommodating people, which I’m assuming wasn’t how their interactions started out.

Speaking of which, is there any reason not to unlock team Homura with the code? I want to play their first chapter since they’re the only characters I haven’t used yet. Will that spoil the story for any of the other schools?

It’s too early for me to start picking definite favourites, but as someone with no previous experience with the franchise, I’m finding the new teams more appealing than the vets. Well, more appealing than Hanzo at least. Hebijo mk2 are the standouts so far.

Also I had a hell of a time finding the DLC on the EU store. The direct link from the game’s PSTV start-up menu led to nothing, there was nothing for it under the EU store’s entry for the game or under DLC for Vita games. Had to do a manual search of the title to get it to show up. Not sure if that’s just a PSTV issue.

I agree the new teams are better than the old ones, though I like about half of Hanzo. Asuka is...generic and her grandpa...you'll see. Kat is awesome. Ikaruga is cool but seems to have lost a bit of personality in this one. I'd love Yagyu if she didn't inexplicably like Hibari who's pretty annoying and useless.

As for crimson squad...sheesh. Glad they have Hikage because otherwise...

You also I think can only access crimson squad at the very start or after beating the others. It's for the best, their story deliberately ties up/gives a canon ending to the whole thing, just leave it be.

And oh WOW is it still not on the PS TV store right? I had to search for it back at the US PS TV launch to find DLC, figured it was first week wonkiness. I have no idea how they manage to operate the PS TV so incompetently, it's good hardware and they obviously spent money to design and produce it.

Parry? I'm too fucking awful at this game to master that shit.

It's pure timing, not really related to your skill at any other part of the game.

Proudly debt free. If you need a couple bucks, just ask.
Are there any pics of the recent DLC? Camisole / Wedding Dress etc

Finished all the main / character stories, so I'm basically done with the game now (I'm not into trophies). Enjoyed it a lot and will definitely pick up any future non-DS installments.

I stand by my earlier thoughts that the new schools were more appealing than the established cast. Hejibo's story in particular was the most entertaining, largely because the girls felt more like individuals rather than a collective consciousness. Seeing what initially brought them together, along with what nearly tore them apart, made them more interesting as characters. I suppose playing Burst / watching the anime might've given me a better appreciation for the vets.

Because of the way the game makes you alternate between who you're playing as, I never really ended up with a clear main. If I had, it probably would've been Yumi, because she fights like a goddamn blizzard. Also enjoyed using Mirai a lot for her unorthodox playstyle.

The most frustrating thing about the game for me was, oddly enough, the fact that you get a full HP / Ninja Art restore whenever you level up. I prefer having a challenge rather than a cakewalk, so I went straight into to Hard without touching the side stories. It led to some lengthy and tense battles, the majority of which were then spoiled by getting an undeserved heal midway through it. I ended up spamming limit breaks to try and put my health back to what it was, which felt silly.

Lastly, and most importantly, character rankings:

Almost everyone can OHKO any story boss (if they have a slightly reasonable level) on normal mode with Level 2 in frantic. The game's really not designed for Frantic...though frantic is like the only way to get A rank oddly enough. Like every brawler with levels ever, it's got some pretty uneven difficulty.

Lastly, and most importantly, character rankings:

I feel the same about most of the original cast. I love Kat and Hikage, I'd like Yagu if she weren't nuts over super incredibly annoying Hibari. I hate those characters that are like "waaaa I don't wanna fight" but then the game designers are like "well shit, we can't just have them not fight, come up with the lamest possible excuse for them to fight exactly as much as anyone else".

I'd also like Murakumo a lot more if she didn't do the "my mask fell off oh noes!" thing every single battle. It turns her from a badass with a weakness to a crumpled mass of whimpering that briefly acts badass in between bouts of whining. If it happened a couple of times it'd be fine, as is she's basically like Hibari in the "how the fuck has no one kicked you out of Ninja school" sense.

And yeah, healing on level up can cheapen quite a lot of games, especially since it's so inconsistent. It's entirely possible for it to randomly save your ass with zero planning or effort on your part, and the ninpo recharge is pretty much a free win even ignoring the full health.

Could someone do me a solid and Photoshop a Santa hat onto my Hikage avatar here? I don't have PS on the computer I'm using; my usual laptop's in the shop and won't be back for another couple of weeks.

Think I said it above, but I suspect my opinions of (some of) the original cast would be different if this game wasn't my first exposure to them. Versus's story seems to assume that you already have some knowledge of who they are / what makes them tick, and they get less development than the new characters. Katsuragi had some great individual lines, but the whole groping thing became stale for me pretty quickly. Murakumo probably made me laugh more than anyone else, though I accept she's one of those types that can become grating if you don't warm to her 'quirk'.

I played a couple chapters of the first (it's...not great, especially after playing Versus) and other than Ikaruga none of them seem very different. And Asuka's "WE FIGHT BECAUSE WE ARE FRIENDS" thing only gets worse the more you hear it

Are the character dlc worth it?
I'd say so. They're both pretty decent, if overpowered characters. Both of them have a story (i.e. a set of 5 stages like the others) and the finale of each is a tough but enjoyable battle.

A Huge Battleship just had to swap Yomi & Hikage and that list would have been perfect ...so close.
For what it's worth, Yomi's bottom of that tier. She made a strong first impression but then bean sprouts, bean sprouts, bean sprouts, etc.

...what made an impression beyond "I am poor and eat bean sprouts"? She seems like the sort of person that's nice but still completely insufferable to be around. My favs are the ones that are funny and/or have personalities that wouldn't make me want to naw my own arm off to escape

Yeah, Yomi was much more interesting in Burst character-wise. She had to learn to stop her "all rich people are the worst thing ever" attitude, and while it was interesting to see more of her past, I really didn't feel her presence with her current self aside from BEAN SPROUTS BEAN SPROUTS SAVE YOUR MONEYS.

It felt like they wanted to focus more on the story of the new characters, which is totally fine, but in exchange, it seems like they forgot to work on further developing anyone in Hanzo or Crimson. Though I will say I liked the scene with Ikaruga's brother, which just makes me want to play as him more in SK2.

Wanted to try the online but unsurprisingly it's a wasteland. Being able to play with quasi-decent bots instead is a welcome touch though.

Also after going through the Library properly, Yozakura has the best theme. HMs to Yagyu, Shiki and Minori if she counts.

Can't remember which chapter I first encountered her in, but she came off as refined, nurturing and refreshingly level-headed, with a strong underlying will. Then the mask slipped and the beans began to sprout. Still, compared to the rest of the cast I'd actually consider her one of the more tolerable to be around.

Yeah that was neat, though Ikaruga's personality seems a bit muted in Versus as well. Come to think of it, as far as backstory (not current stuff) I liked everyone in Hanzo's stuff except Hibari and Asuka (did she even have any?). No one's backstory really went much of anywhere though, most confusingly Hibari's considering the whole "oops I just possessed all of my friends with immense power let's never mention it again through the whole story"

Also more generally, I'm not a big fan of the occasional reminder than every playable character in SK is a complete joke and there are real actual Ninjas that apparently put everyone to shame ten times over and why do we even bother doing anything. There's at least one scene where everyone's instantly rendered helpless in both Gessen and Hanzo by "real Ninjas" and you're just like "um why don't they just use THESE guys to do everything ever". It's like you're a DBZ villian thinking you're all hot shit then it turns out there's like 500 Super Saiyan level 3s and why do I even bother coming in in the morning.
