SaGa 2015 (working title) announced for PS Vita

That's why Sony is porting Resident Evil Revelations 2 to Vita among other things.
But the only "other things" from 3PP were Borderlands and western indie games?

Revelations 2 itself is a game that appeals much more to western markets, particularly as an episodic digital game. It's not like they're doing DQ Heroes, Tales of Zestiria, Yakuza Zero or something that might actually move the needle in Japan. Or an actual AAA Japanese game like MGSV.

Don't have a Vita so I don't know when or if I'd get this, but it's nice to see the series still kinda has a presence outside of mobile/browser games. Had a feeling the announcement wasn't going to be a console game though.

I like that it seems to be a throwback to 90s-era SaGa games.

For a studio that is only a year old they still have a lot up their sleeve. They are not going to stop the studio after yakuza 5

You can't equip your teammates. They have to randomly decide they want a weapon form your inventory, and you can't pick who gets what or what they get.

What abilities you can do in battle at any given time is completely randomly selected.

The game has slowdown and texture pop-in out of this world.

Then there is the manner of game progress, the reused locations, the enemy level scaling, and the plot...

That game defecated on the Saga series.

The PC version fixed many of these issues. It turned it into a much more polished game.

This is interesting, because Squeenix can develop a brand new Vita game while Type-0 HD is console-only.

Type-0 HD console only makes sense. The PS4 is wildly popular worldwide and has an actual future. While the Vita is dead everywhere but Japan (and even in Japan it's still not very popular), so a smaller IP with a smaller budget is a smaller risk.

Yes! I was so worried about mobile. Vita is a great platform for a SaGa game, now I just need to get one...

Damn, artwork looks tight. Too bad the game's going to look NOTHING like that. I'd kill for a SaGa game that tried to replicate that artwork's general "look", in 3D(similar to a FF that did the same with Amano's designs).

Though nice that Kenji Ito's back. I always felt he and Uematsu were two different sides of the same coin.

What more popular IPs?

Chrono (although it has been so long since the last new release, it's hard to gauge its popularity) and Star Ocean are the main ones that have worldwide appeal, yet appear to be dead as fuck.

Then you've got a bunch of IPs that sell about as well as SaGa (if not more), yet haven't had a full release in about 1 trillion years.

A new SaGa game?

I love MakaiToushi SaGa.
Really wish we had gotten the WSC remake of it here.

Wonder if we'll get this over here...

I meant why couldn't they have paid for a SaGa game.
For the same reason. Why would they pay for a SaGa game? The last game came out more than 10 years ago and it was already niche as fuck.

Well, you're comparing a new game to a full-priced 2011 handheld port. I'd say the risk is equally small.

That's precisely why I don't understand why would Square Enix release this on an (almost) dead platform unless Sony paid when they wouldn't even bring Type-0 to it. I'm confused, that's all.

Unsure why youre in this thread

To talk about this announcement, same as you.

But you have no interest in this game. So what is there to talk about

I don't think the Vita is dead in Japan, they're still making games for it. Japan loves SaGa.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Vita? Color me surprised.

Please come west. I know SaGa hasn't been localized in a long time, but Vita owners are starved. We'll jump on this, SE, we promise!

It's possible there's Sony behind it, because they know worst case scenario, they can soften the blow with a port later on. I mean, you can sell a PSP game for 100$, at this point everything is fair game.
