Final Fantasy XIII-2 PC |OT| So you think you can ride this Chocobo!

I definitely don't like when a game has permanent growth decisions, especially in super long games.

In FFVII you make tons of decisions about what materia to level up, but if you get to the end and realize you are missing something you can go back and grind it out.

Bravely Default lets you level every single job to max level, but you have to make tons of decisions along the way of what order to go and what to unlock

It was so frustrating in XIII-2 trying to eke out 5 stars in the coliseum knowing that my stats werent optimal and there was nothing I could do about it short of starting over.

I meant the dlc unlocks for mass effect and the like, those are locked on pc, someone found a way to unlock them, SE fixed that instead of the game.

That's exactly what I was talking about it. I just played the game and yeah, it doesn't work anymore. Fuck this. How about fixing the damn frame-rate SE?!

The hidden DLC costumes only emphasize how drag-and-drop this port really is. I'm not expecting any performance improvements but I will happily eat my words.

Oh they patched the hidden DLCs lol.

That means they also know our framerate issues, I wonder if they are going to release a serious patch or not.

Yoshi chan they aren't there, but I found some Dual shock buttons within PC file of FFXIII but idk how to enable or get the game to use it. Maybe GAF's modders can do it.

If you can find where the 360 buttons are, it might be as simple as replacing 360 button texture files with PS3 button texture files.

With FF13's imgc package. Using your extractor, within the gui folder there are system.xgr files. IDk if the game uses these files or not, but in the system_ck.xgr file if you view in Noesis two texture files have dual shock prompts. Along with the other controller prompts (360 ,generic PC)

I haven't been following, but did someone write a program to unpack/repack the xgr image bundles?

Unfortunately gedosato texture replacement doesn't seem to work with either of the ff13 games.
One option right now is to use texmod, but because running a game through texmod bypasses the launcher, you can't set any options. I saw that there are some commandline options, but I don't know if that's enough. Also texmod is old and kind of crappy anyway.

You can set every single option via the command line. It's what the launcher does! (The game doesn't even open the options file)

I wrote down the full set:
Code:
E:\Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY XIII-2\alba_data\prog\win\bin\ffxiii2img.exe" -FullScreenMode=Force -Width=3840 -Height=2160 -VoiceJPMode -Shadow=4096 -MSAA=16

If someone successfully pulls this off Yoshichan will be so happy

We should probably also scale the font and ui to ddisplay well in 1080p+ resolutions

Yes please, someone fix this and I will forever be in your dept :(

Heheh.

In any case, turns out this doesn't help. Trying to add a shortcut with the commandline options to texmod will just add the main exe instead. Stupid thing.

Oh god damnit, I was using both the assassin's creed noel outfit and that other style and steel outfit, both are the best ones

This angers me

They are passing around a download that reverts the patch on steam forums. Idk if I'm allowed to post it here though

Likewise. I love the Style and Steel outfit and the AC costume is the only decent one Noel has.
What annoys me is that the S&S outfit was free on consoles, why is it locked out of the PC version.

I was going to ask if this was still possible, good news, I need to find that.

Marketing contract between a dev/publisher and an entity can't be 1:1 equated to the contract (game sale) between a publisher and customer.

Most likely the terms for licensing were extremely limited.

I'm not here to morally police what you can or cannot do (heck it's PC, mod the shit out of it all you want) but don't get angry at a publisher for protecting its own legal ass when you bought their product with clear advance foreknowledge that they said certain DLC were not going to be in it as far as they were concerned.

Oh, man... I don't think I can play this game. Finally booted it up and got through the Valhalla intro, and got past the first few battles with Sera, but this is just so goddamned cheesy and ridiculous. Was FFXIII this bad? I must not be remembering it correctly.

I'd say that XIII-2 isn't any more "cheesy and ridiculous" than some of the older FF games. For example, VI and VII have plenty of weird, cheesy, and ridiculous moments.

What annoys me is how fast they sprung into action to remove the DLC, but yet we had to wait two months for a resolution patch. And we may never get a performance patch.

Square Enix is super slow and doesn't seem to care..... except when it's their ass on the line.

What bullshit.

And I don't know what is going on,but I can't play XIII-2 anymore cause It randomly restarts my computer. Then I play XIII and it does the same thing. I've managed to beat that game without it doing that.

So because a performance fix is seemingly out of their ability/resources/whatever (call it incompetence if you like, I'm not specifically going to argue against your opinion on that) a completely different fix that simply involves removing a couple of assets from the game to fulfill a different set of obligations shouldn't be pursued?

"Oh shit Jim, this patch is gonna be a lot easier, but we should totally delay it for three weeks so that on the surface it appears we respect our customers about as much as we respect our business partners"

Nah they should do it, but It would of been nice to show acknowledgement of the current issues and say they'll try to do something.

I used the resolution patch as a comparison... not this hypothetical performance patch. It took them weeks to push out a pretty low effort resolution patch, but only a matter of about three days to patch out the DLC. And I also never said they shouldn't have patched the DLC out.

It just makes them look bad.

What's going on? More patches to fight against the DLCs?

If only they worked that hard to fix the framepacing issue :(

The only reason I could imagine for a 17 GB patch is if they really want to remove all the dlc from all the asset files rather than just making it inaccessible, and the only way they have of doing that is completely replacing them.

But I thought Steam fixed that even for games which have silly package formats.

Got this from a friend, so guess I'll finally be playing it. Anything to know before hand? Played and sort of liked XIII.

edit: Should I be playing this w/ any upgrades? How well does a 780 OC'd do at downsampling this?

It's a far better game than XIII.

Since you won't be maintaining 60 FPS anyway, you might as well go all-out. I'm running 4k with max AA and 4k shadows on my 970.
And don't forget to force 16xAF in your driver.

So what did the update do ?

Game runs better now ? Worth buying ?

Worth buying has always been pretty subjective :V

It's better than the console version. Still not as good as "PC version" implies. Comes with all almost all DLCs. Pretty much the same as launch.

edit: Beaten by hours. I need to stop leaving tabs open.

Nah as far as I know it's just a battle against the DLCs unlockers.

Certainly not a performance patch.

I didn't see any update log nor did it download a patch for me yet.

Okay then.

Well I think the game itself is worth it...Just dunno if its worth buying this particular version when I already have the PS3 one and expect a PS4 version soon anyway.

A bit of a conundrum really.

The size of that patch is probably inflated for some people because they deleted their other language files to save space and Steam is just downloading all the missing files again.

That's my guess anyway.

If they can get a PS4 version running at 60fps and not the PC version, I'll film myself eating noodles through my nose.

edit: I'm aware the PC version 'can run' at 60fps with brute force specs or a miracle stars-align configuration. You know what I mean. D:
